  1. This. A week or two away will make everything seem better when you return. It’s a time for new experiences and a break from routine so just enjoy it.
  2. When you think about it, so many tunes ( Rock, reggae, rap etc etc) have lyrics which can maybe be interpreted in different ways. I remember seeing George Melly years ago singing 1920’s Bessie Smith songs which were full of double entendre and the audience ( including my mother embarrassingly enough!) loved him. It was the humour and clever innuendo that made it acceptable I think, unlike today’s more obvious and blatant references. ( Just realised I’m sounding like a Daily Mail reader, apologies...) Other songs which later fell into that category include ‘Shake rattle and roll’ ( “I’m like a one eyed cat peepin in a seafood store”) and The Coaster’s ‘Poison Ivy’, all about STD’s !! On a slightly different tack, not sure how ‘Little Children’ ( Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas ), ‘Clare’ ( Gilbert O’Sullivan ‘) or ‘Save all your kisses for me’ ( Brotherhood of Man’) would be viewed in these perhaps less innocent times?
  3. Roll over lay down - Status Quo? Centerfold - J.Geils Band? Some girls will - Racey? And for some balance - It’s raining men - The Weather Girls 😅
  4. Still looking, so if you know anyone who fancies the job then please get in touch. Thanks.
  5. Keith's black Tele seemed ideal for the job....
  6. Agree with the above Mart about getting some professional help. Just don’t go blaming it on the Dano though okay? They get enough bad press as it is...😅
  7. I’m sure you already know that your best chance of a good deal is to try and sell your stuff privately and not trade it in. ( Not even sure if gear4music do trade ins TBH? ) That way you will be able to negotiate a better deal with your cash in hand. The Gig Shop on Beverley Road in Hull have a fair selection of PA stuff too, and there’s a guitar shop on Freeman Street in Grimsby that carries some kit, and may even do p/ex . Failing that, it’s going to mean a trawl around Leeds, Nottingham, Manchester etc I think. Good luck!
  8. The one I had ended up being a rental amp with a local PA hire company. As far as I know it’s still going strong, must be around 40 years old now! Great amps.
  9. Remember a lot of people using these, especially in club bands up here in Yorkshire. The game changer was when Peavey brought out their 400 series amps - a huge 210 watts, 2 channels ,graphic eq, switchable compressor etc etc. Sounded ace by comparison and although costing more money were definitely a massive step forward. Ruled the roost until the advent of Trace!
  10. Yup, I do the same, emphasising any notes that may be overly loud in the room which need attention from the desk to rectify. Think it’s worth mentioning what a sometimes seemingly futile job soundchecking in an empty room can be for the band and engineer. When you get the audience ( or as he calls them ‘meat baffles’ ) in, it must be so hard if the settings need altering a lot from the sound check.
  11. Our sound check always follows the same routine. 1. All instruments line checked in turn (sometimes string section together to get a good balance ), followed by each microphone. 2. Four songs played - first is for overall instrument balance / lead vocal, second for same (but is louder than the first), third for backing vocal balance and the fourth for solo instrument levels (violin and guitar). We don’t necessarily play all of each song, but tend to when it’s a large room where the sound guy wants to listen in all areas. This is often the case in theatres with multiple tiers where his job is so much more difficult. It’s also the first band I’ve been in for years where we are pretty disciplined, as I can’t stand people playing over other people’s individual check. Widdly guitarists nearly always.
  12. Cheers Lozz. I've been looking for one like this for ages, years even! Had to have a big neck, and the colour was equally important. Most cherry 335's are in a non translucent finish, really bright colours or have flamed tops - none of which seem right to me. This one is actually 'Antique red', with the grain visible through it. I have some Gibson reflector knobs on order as I'm not overly keen on the ones fitted, but apart from that it's pretty much spot on. All I need to do now is try and brush up my (limited) guitar chops, and find somewhere to play it loud!
  13. Is it because it’s an old model they’ve based it on, been out of production a long time , 50 years maybe? I’m loving the headstock too by the way.
  14. Looks great, always liked the originals.
  15. Agreed, although there are fake Epiphone Les Pauls emerging now apparently.
  16. Nice bass Andy. Saw this advertised and was tempted myself. Just put that original bridge back on and enjoy - plate looks fine to me.
  17. Well, finally it had to happen. Here's my newly acquired Gibson 335. Fat neck model, made in 2008. Only just got it, but already feel it's a keeper.
  18. I'd forgotten that until I read your post. Found this - http://www.muzines.co.uk/articles/brynn-hiscox-acoustic/5383
  19. I've had this too - now beginning to think there's more to it - possible scammer / dodgy bug*er etc.
  20. I've had this a few times - maybe someone with a similar item they're thinking of flogging checking out how your sale has done? Also why do a lot of people advertising on Gumtree never delete their ads once the item has been sold?
  21. My mate had a T&B 50 with matching 18" cab in crocskin! First 'big' amp I ever plugged in to.
  22. Although I have a couple of Hiscox cases (as everyone else has said, industry standard etc), for the last few years I've used one of these - https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Bass-Guitar-Foam-Case-by-Gear4music/C87 Although obviously not as tough as a Hiscox, I've found it to be a great compromise between the convenience of a gig bag with the protection of a hard case. Mine has been everywhere, and because it is so light it makes it so easy to take with me into venues and hotels when we stay over on gigs. Amazingly good protection for your bass, mine still looks like new after 4 years on the road. If you're going to gigs in your car, it will be more than adequate and the shaped design makes it fairly compact.
  23. I had a similar experience - drove 30 miles to meet a guy buying some passive PA cabs from me I had on ebay. Never showed, or answered my tests / calls. After wasting 2 hours of my time + fuel, I went home. After calming down a day later I left him negative feedback on ebay, pointing out what had happened. After which he texted me, very abusive and said my listing had stated they were active cabs! When I sent him the listing saying otherwise he went quiet again. Unbelievable. Have to say though that this was a one off - please to report most if not all of my other dealings via here, Ebay and Gumtree etc have been just fine. I always meet up face to face for a cash deal whether buying or selling, not being into Paypal scammers etc.
  24. I just unscrewed the screw on the top of the tuner button, and it came off revealing the washer.
  25. Thanks Andy, they look just the job. I’ve been away so haven’t had chance to sort it yet, so much appreciated. They’re out of stock at the moment unfortunately, but there’s no hurry. Will keep an eye on when they’re available again though. Cheers, Pete.
