  1. Know what you mean, but to be fair to our 6 string compadres some songs do sound best on the right guitar, i.e Fender Strat or Gibson Les Paul, acoustic 6 or 12 string etc etc. Whereas we can get away with just a bit of adjustment on the old EQ …...😉
  2. My main band in theatres - everything in the PA / my usual GK amp and cab / everyone on IEM's except me! My country/rock band in pubs - Just vocals / acoustic guitars in the PA, although if a large venue we will stick a little of everything else in there. My acoustic duo - vocals, acoustic guitar and bass all in the PA, no other amps. Positioning the speakers is crucial! Depping in pubs with rock bands - Usually just vocals in the PA and bring a loud enough rig to keep up.
  3. Also agree. We (myself included) spend far too long agonizing over our gear, instead of putting that time and effort into improving the band. I remember someone telling me years ago that when you get a new instrument / amp etc, you then spend 6 months trying to get it to sound like your old one. A guy I know in the guitar business told me that sooner or later you reach the age of enlightenment - the point when you realise that chasing after different bits of gear in an effort to sound like something kicks in. At that point, you then realise what a waste of time it's been, and how much better you could play. The guitarist in my country band has many lovely instruments, but on our gigs he uses a £100 Telecaster replica, and it sounds just wonderful through a Fender Deluxe 112 Plus solid state combo. Has loads of people coming up and asking him where he got the Tele made too!
  4. Marshall 5501 Bass 12 combo amplifier, dating from (I believe) around 1983. 12 watts / 8 ohms, with original Celestion G10L-35 10 inch speaker. 2 inputs (high/low), gain/volume/treble/middle/bass controls, 1/4inch jack output for headphones & line out. Overall excellent condition for a 35 year old amplifier! Made in Milton Keynes UK. Although designated a bass model these are excellent for guitar use too, with some Youtube videos available showing what can be done with them. Lots of warmth and drive on tap and amazing for a solid state design. Getting to be a rare find in this condition too. Item is in East Yorkshire, cash on collection preferred but postage possible. Am guessing £15 for mainland UK. Possible meet up too - am soon in Hull, Basingstoke and Bromsgrove! More pics available, PM me. Cheers.
  5. Bit more Maine info on this old thread Frank. Cheers, Pete.
  6. Apparently Andrew did co-write a few of the Wham things (Wham Rap, Club Tropicana etc) George also credited him as co-writer on his massive solo hit 'Careless Whisper. See Wiki below - Since 1982, he has reportedly amassed £10 million from sales and royalties of records.[12] Although the single "Careless Whisper" was issued as a Michael solo piece, it was credited as being co-written by Ridgeley.[13] It has sold six million copies worldwide[14] and, as of 2012, was the 34th best-selling single of all time in the United Kingdom, having sold over 1.3 million copies.[15] Ridgeley still receives thousands of pounds a year from his share of "Careless Whisper" royalties alone.[16]
  7. Absolutely! As a massive Carole King fan, ‘Pleasant Valley Sunday’ is up there as one of my all time favourite songs. Lots more of their stuff is great too, including ‘Last train to Clarksville’ and ‘A little bit me..’
  8. Saw this poster the other day.....
  9. Originally launched as a concise sister to The Independent, the i has been around for 8 years now, and is available at all good news outlets. https://inews.co.uk/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_(newspaper)
  10. I've been buying the i paper since it's launch, and always find it an excellent read. Concise and balanced format, well worth 60p / £1 on Saturdays.
  11. Wonder if they don't sell Peroni anymore either, because AFAIK it's all brewed and bottled in Italy?
  12. Absolutely. As for the DM just don’t buy it, truly dreadful newspaper.
  13. Sold out theatre in Sussex last night, cracking audience and a great sounding room. Really enjoyed the gig, as did the rest of the band, with everyone playing spot on. Thought I’d try using my spare amp, a GK MB200, instead of my usual GK 1001RB. Been thinking of selling it to fund something else, but am now not so sure - it sounded great! Only supposed to be giving 140 watts into my GK Neo 410, but coped brilliantly well with no lack of headroom (or heft...😄 ). What to do.....
  14. Me too Mart, by a bigger margin....🙁
  15. I'm getting very interested in these now, will have to try one out somewhere ASAP.
  16. I like the tone of his voice on some of the Soft Cell stuff, but for me he’s always struggled with his pitching when singing live. Some people can get away with this ( Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach, Rod Stewart maybe ), but for me Marc isn’t one of them.
  17. Just sold a bass to Neil (Bungie), who arrived on his motorbike! Easy transaction, and a really decent bloke, pleasure to meet you Neil. All the best. Pete
  18. I agree, although don’t remember them in that colour - looks like what became known as 7-Up green but Fender called it Candy Green I believe. Still, nice colour IMO!
  19. Could well be a Clapton Strat body in 7-Up green, although can't see the EC signature on the headstock . Eric would definitely not entertain a roller nut either 😄
  20. Mate of mine has just got one of these and he loves it. 50% cheaper than the Guild , same strings and scale length I believe. Seems to be well made with all mahogany build, though laminated throughout unlike the Guild and the Taylor which have solid tops. Sounds and plays sweet, a nice compromise between a uke bass and a standard scale acoustic/electric. Think he got his for around £220 including a gig bag, great value. https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/180108320372008--ibanez-pnb14e-opn-acoustic-bass?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7ZSlmKmV3gIVg73tCh3h2wmjEAQYAyABEgKFwvD_BwE
  21. One of my favourite 60's pop tunes, and also one of those rare occasions when I prefer the cover to the original ( by Robert Knight ) although please let's not even go there for the Jamie Cullum racket... The Love Affair's version is an absolute classic - great vocal from a 17 year old Steve Ellis, with an interesting bassline and brass arrangement too. Fab drums at the triangle bit as well. Apparently the rest of the band didn't play on the hit , CBS used session musicians instead to create a classic recording.
  22. May be interested in this if your sale falls through - cheers. Pete.
