  1. Having just been to see Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, was reminded of this great song from Bruce.
  2. Last night went to see Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul at Whitley Bay Playhouse. 15 piece USA band with 5 strong brass section and 3 incredible dancing backing vocalists. 2 and a half hours of amazing songs, delivered to a capacity audience of fans. One of the best live shows I’ve seen for many years, haven’t stopped smiling yet. 😊
  3. Think you’ll find it doesn’t get much more traditional (17th C ) than Whiskey in the Jar which I think the lyric is from?
  4. Totally with you on that one. Souless muso perfection, with annoying vocals too. Ditto Toto / late Doobies etc Queen - never got them really. Early stuff maybe okayish but the later albums in their pomp, just urgh. Mind you, I like Van’s Moondance album so what do I know? 😊
  5. Bought a Taylor mini bass from Frank. He very kindly kept it for a month until we could meet up in Southend to do the deal, which was very much appreciated as it saved risking a courier. Absolute top fella, went out of his way to ensure I was happy with my purchase. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him. Cheers Frank!
  6. Wow, what a great story! Love the fact Darryl praised Bill too, sounds like a top man.
  7. Excellent stuff, well done sir! Just goes to show that feeling never leaves you.
  8. I use a GK MB800 into an 8 ohm BF Compact cab, which should give around 500 Watts. Never been stuck for volume yet, and that’s up against a drummer using broom handles....
  9. Some relevance to this thread from around 1m 25secs.....😅
  10. I really enjoyed the Jeff Beck doc too. As a big EC fan, I found his film enjoyable although with massive gaps of importance/relevance. Maybe would have been better to have done it in two parts to make it more conclusive? The Clapton film is listed as 2hrs and 5 mins on the BBC tonight, with IMDb having it down as 2 hrs 15m, so should be fairly complete I think. Will no doubt be on the BBC iplayer for a while after transmission too.
  11. This is now being shown on BBC2 at 9pm on Saturday 30th June.
  12. Great pics. Looks quite similar to my 63, but then again most stripped ones do look pretty much the same...
  13. Really - I mean, washing your hair?
  14. Anyone seen the Sex Pis*ed Dolls? I always thought Shania’s Twin was a good name too, apparently real as well.
  15. Same here - but ELO stuff! My other outfits are a four piece playing contemporary country rock ( with a few old favourites chucked in ) Acoustic duo - from jazz and swing through to recent chart tunes and pretty much anything in between.
  16. We do that in our duo sometimes! All usually goes well until the massive key change at the end...😅
  17. You wouldn’t believe what my acoustic duo gets requests for. We do a weekly pub gig where we encourage requests via forms we distribute on the bar & tables. We have lots of regular punters who know us well so most requests are reasonably doable. However you can always tell if the requests are from new punters as they vary from smart ar*e ( Bohemian Rhapsody etc) to obscure show tunes / heavy rap / metal / garage etc etc. Sometimes we do surprise them by having a go though.... 😄
  18. I'm doing the same, the occasional gig with a mate's band. Lot of Dad rock, but still fun. Helped by having a great drummer who is so easy to lock in with, and everyone's great attitude on the gig. Next one is mid August, looking forward to it already.
  19. Nothing wrong with a bit of Van for me either.
  20. Absolutely. That was the situation which continued well into the 70's when eventually fully live stuff was introduced. Some fared better at the miming routine than others - seem to remember The Who and The NY Dolls as being a little err..'casual' with this😄
  21. Few things that have been great for the money - Squier Jaguar short scale - great little bass, sounded fab Behringer BD121 - Okay, its a Sansamp rip off, but fantastic bit of kit for £25 Countryman U-bass - A third the price of a Kala, and just as good in most respects.
  22. +1 for the Vintage stuff. Had a V4 as a spare which I regret selling - was a bit heavy though.
  23. I had a Peavey 210 TX and it sounded great! IIRC 4 ohms / 175 watts rms though, so not the beefiest spec around but they do sound sweet. The horns have a tendency to fart out, but easy and cheap to replace. if the weight thing isn't an issue I'd stick with it.
  24. Didn't know LJ played on that - Brothers Johnson were signed to Herb's A&M though, as was their producer Quincy Jones.
