Here's one of the tracks I saw on the OGWT. Still sounds good to me....🙂

Another Joe fan here. On joining The Eagles he gave them a massive much needed kick up the derriere, as well as bringing along his great stage presence and humour. Saw them at Bingley Stafford Hall in 1977 on the Hotel California tour, and Joe was sublime, made the band sound so good. I remember first seeing Joe on The Old Grey Whistle Test programme in the early/mid 70's. There was a film of him doing 'Funk#49' and 'Rocky Mountain Way' which was fantastic. Then I saw his name on the list of credits for Rod Stewart's 'Atlantic Crossing' album and also got a great 'Best of the James Gang' album. ( Also let's not forget he has the best guitar face ever....) 😕😄

Marshall 5501 12 watt combo WITHDRAWN!
casapete replied to casapete's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale

You could always try using a Sansamp Bass Driver - preamp / amp modeler pedal with lots of tones and also a good DI output for the FOH sound too. Honourable mention too for the inevitable Behringer BD121 ( based on the Sanamp) which is well worth a try for only around £25 or less. With either of these you can choose to send whatever tone you dial in to the engineer out front, and either the same thing or just a straight through signal to your onstage amp.

Think there was previous thread on here about this not long ago. I remarked that I prefer the cab to be on the floor, liking the coupling / additional bottom end you get from most stages. Others disliked this, and said it was better for them having the cab nearer ear level etc. Even having the cab ( GK Neo 410 in my case ) on it’s own castors does seem to change the sound, and having yours a lot higher up on a flight case will undoubtedly alter your perception of what’s going on - you may even prefer it! Case of trial and error I think really, let us know how you get on!

Great tune and as you say, not quite as straightforward as you may think. Roy Wood tours around this time of year, and is still well worth seeing if you get chance. Great band with 4 saxes and yes they do ‘I wish ....’ as well as all the Move and Wizzard stuff.

They are indeed. Nice amp sir!

Those horrible Zenta / Audition / Kay etc. bits of tat that continually surface on eBay for lots of dosh - what’s that all about? The sellers often try to pass them off as 60’s / 70’s Japanese works of art, when we all know they were naff then, and still are. Not sure if they ever sell, but just falsely inflate prices and make people go digging around their lofts to see if they can unearth some similar ‘vintage gem’ that you wouldn’t even light the fire with.

My problem with relying on the house monitor system is just getting my bass to sound okay for me - often not possible to eq the bass separately in the wedges without it affecting anything else ( vocals / drums etc) . Also not a fan of horns for bass, which most wedges seem to have in abundance. That's why even with a good house PA I do prefer to have my own rig, however small, so that I can hear me sounding like me. If the FOH engineer thinks my onstage sound is rubbish then he can usually adjust to suit ( and I'll probably never know anyway...)
-
Know what you mean, but to be fair to our 6 string compadres some songs do sound best on the right guitar, i.e Fender Strat or Gibson Les Paul, acoustic 6 or 12 string etc etc. Whereas we can get away with just a bit of adjustment on the old EQ …...😉

My main band in theatres - everything in the PA / my usual GK amp and cab / everyone on IEM's except me! My country/rock band in pubs - Just vocals / acoustic guitars in the PA, although if a large venue we will stick a little of everything else in there. My acoustic duo - vocals, acoustic guitar and bass all in the PA, no other amps. Positioning the speakers is crucial! Depping in pubs with rock bands - Usually just vocals in the PA and bring a loud enough rig to keep up.

Does it really matter what gear you have??
casapete replied to discreet's topic in General Discussion
Also agree. We (myself included) spend far too long agonizing over our gear, instead of putting that time and effort into improving the band. I remember someone telling me years ago that when you get a new instrument / amp etc, you then spend 6 months trying to get it to sound like your old one. A guy I know in the guitar business told me that sooner or later you reach the age of enlightenment - the point when you realise that chasing after different bits of gear in an effort to sound like something kicks in. At that point, you then realise what a waste of time it's been, and how much better you could play. The guitarist in my country band has many lovely instruments, but on our gigs he uses a £100 Telecaster replica, and it sounds just wonderful through a Fender Deluxe 112 Plus solid state combo. Has loads of people coming up and asking him where he got the Tele made too! -
Marshall 5501 Bass 12 combo amplifier, dating from (I believe) around 1983. 12 watts / 8 ohms, with original Celestion G10L-35 10 inch speaker. 2 inputs (high/low), gain/volume/treble/middle/bass controls, 1/4inch jack output for headphones & line out. Overall excellent condition for a 35 year old amplifier! Made in Milton Keynes UK. Although designated a bass model these are excellent for guitar use too, with some Youtube videos available showing what can be done with them. Lots of warmth and drive on tap and amazing for a solid state design. Getting to be a rare find in this condition too. Item is in East Yorkshire, cash on collection preferred but postage possible. Am guessing £15 for mainland UK. Possible meet up too - am soon in Hull, Basingstoke and Bromsgrove! More pics available, PM me. Cheers.

Bit more Maine info on this old thread Frank. Cheers, Pete.

Crap Songs Which Turn Out To Be Great To Play
casapete replied to stewblack's topic in General Discussion
Apparently Andrew did co-write a few of the Wham things (Wham Rap, Club Tropicana etc) George also credited him as co-writer on his massive solo hit 'Careless Whisper. See Wiki below - Since 1982, he has reportedly amassed £10 million from sales and royalties of records.[12] Although the single "Careless Whisper" was issued as a Michael solo piece, it was credited as being co-written by Ridgeley.[13] It has sold six million copies worldwide[14] and, as of 2012, was the 34th best-selling single of all time in the United Kingdom, having sold over 1.3 million copies.[15] Ridgeley still receives thousands of pounds a year from his share of "Careless Whisper" royalties alone.[16] -
Crap Songs Which Turn Out To Be Great To Play
casapete replied to stewblack's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely! As a massive Carole King fan, ‘Pleasant Valley Sunday’ is up there as one of my all time favourite songs. Lots more of their stuff is great too, including ‘Last train to Clarksville’ and ‘A little bit me..’ -
Saw this poster the other day.....

Originally launched as a concise sister to The Independent, the i has been around for 8 years now, and is available at all good news outlets. https://inews.co.uk/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_(newspaper)

I've been buying the i paper since it's launch, and always find it an excellent read. Concise and balanced format, well worth 60p / £1 on Saturdays.

Wonder if they don't sell Peroni anymore either, because AFAIK it's all brewed and bottled in Italy?
-
Absolutely. As for the DM just don’t buy it, truly dreadful newspaper.

Sold out theatre in Sussex last night, cracking audience and a great sounding room. Really enjoyed the gig, as did the rest of the band, with everyone playing spot on. Thought I’d try using my spare amp, a GK MB200, instead of my usual GK 1001RB. Been thinking of selling it to fund something else, but am now not so sure - it sounded great! Only supposed to be giving 140 watts into my GK Neo 410, but coped brilliantly well with no lack of headroom (or heft...😄 ). What to do.....

Me too Mart, by a bigger margin....🙁

I'm getting very interested in these now, will have to try one out somewhere ASAP.
