  1. Me too. Only problem I ever encounter with clip ons is when tuning a semi or fully acoustic bass / guitar whilst there's a lot of noise going on. On a solid bass mine is 100% every time whatever the environment.
  2. Free delivery on this one, still silver though....... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TC-Electronic-UniTune-Clip-Clip-on-Guitar-Tuner-/352266002982

  4. Probably because it makes them lots of dosh, they might still enjoy it, and it's all they've ever known?
  5. I keep a log of string changes (OCD or what....) and mine work out at around 2 monthly intervals too, after which I feel they've had their best. If funds allowed I would definitely change them more often . Interestingly, the EXL's on my Dano Longhorn don't get changed as often as my Fender. Think it's because the 'deadness' of the older strings seems to suit the instrument / band more. Quite handy as the short scale ones are often harder to obtain / more expensive than the regular EXL's. Have thought about some flats for it too at some point.
  6. As mentioned in other threads on here, Legacy Nickel Wounds are the same as Rotosound Rotos, and a bit cheaper too. Rotos are the only strings I've ever used by Rotosound that I can get on with.
  7. Been using Snarks for a long time now, never any problem with low E and only around a tenner. Also used my ‘Reverb’ £2 specials , again with no probs.
  8. Absolutely, couldn't agree more. And so much kinder to frets too.....
  9. No, think that track was from the mid 70's H&O period before T Bone joined them. Not sure who played bass on it TBH, possibly Leland Sklar who did some of the H&O stuff I believe.
  10. Was their bassist for many years, and played on most of their big hits from early 80's onwards. Saw him with H&O in the 90's and he was stellar. Sadly died in 2010, only in his late 50's too I believe.
  11. Yup, just thought I'd mention T-Bone , as he was a truly wonderful bassist as well.
  12. The guitar player in the 'Pick up the pieces' video is the late Tom 'T-bone' Wolk, longtime bassist with Hall and Oates.
  13. I’ve used the EXL 170’s for maybe 20 years or more. Tried other stuff but always come back to them. In all that time never had a duff string either. For me they feel spot on, and sound well balanced. Last a reasonably long time too, and the two pack sets are usually the best price wise.
  14. Great stuff. Most of the ‘Live from Daryl’s House’ stuff is fantastic, with excellent guests.
  15. Just got back from seeing The Christians in Runcorn. Bit of a trek for me but well worth it. Great 6 piece band with superb vocals, did all the well known material and a few good covers too. Sound was a slight let down, seemed to be using the theatre’s house PA which was a tad bass light. Shame as bassist Bobby Kewley played great, using both a fretted and a fretless Yamaha BB into an old Trace Head and 2103 cab. Superb band and cracking gig though, well worth the trip.
  16. After that album with the RPO I really want Roy to be left as we remember him, rather than another cash in like Elvis. Not sure a hologram show is really doing that. It will be 30 years ago in December since he died, aged 52. Anyone wanting to see Roy in concert could do a lot worse than just buy the DVD ‘A Black and White Night’. Filmed in 1987, it features a lot of guest musicians and shows Roy still at his best.
  17. And poor old Leonard Cohen, $5 million down due to his management, forcing him to tour again.
  18. Just heard Trevor Nelson play this on R2 - my favourite Bobby Womack track.
  19. Don't think I've ever seen Mike Campbell sing, but maybe his guitar virtuosity more than compensates? Likewise Neil Finn maybe isn't a 'lead guitar' player as such, but has the voice ( and songs ). Whatever, it will surely require some thought but no doubt will be interesting.
  20. Neil Finn? Blimey. Mike Campbell seems more of an obvious choice though. One of the best guitar players I've seen.
  21. Looks good, thanks for the heads up.
  22. Maybe someone who enjoyed the recent 'Do you need something to iron your clothes on?' thread?
  23. Maybe as a drummer he got fed up of being hit round the head with it?
