Ha ha - I was meaning between 'the' country and 'western' if you get my drift...sorry, never mind.

.Great gig at the weekend with my acoustic duo. Played in an amazing house, barn conversion with massive grounds. ( Due to the crap weather we played inside though.) Was a Mexican themed evening, which entailed (hopefully not too stereotypical / rascist) obligatory ponchos /moustaches and sombreros for audience and band. They'd arranged a streetfood Cantina to provide authentic burritos, followed by churros with chocolate sauce - yum Started off with Mexican instrumentals, then gradually worked through some more obvious stuff ( La Bamba etc). By this time the Corona / Sol / Margueritas had truly kicked in and then we just played anything they wanted to hear. All in all a great gig for some lovely people - if only all gigs etc....

Am guessing said joker has a wireless system and plays standing on the bar at some point. How very droll...

I did the traditional C&W circuit in the late 70's and played a gig once where there was a horse. Anyone remember 'Phoenix nights' too?

Unless you live in rural Cornwall...?

Yup, classic fail for a wedding / function is to let someone who's a massive fan of a particular band / style of music book the entertainment. Been to many such events that have been a sorry (and often expensive mistake. ) You really have to go for what will appeal to most of the audience for most of the event - bearing in mind you will never ever please everyone. When I was in a function band playing at a wedding with usually a wide spread of ages/tastes in the audience, we'd usually start with some quiet-ish old stuff (Sinatra etc) for the more elderly folks to enjoy and dance to. The younger people would be at the bar or occasionally join in with the dancing, but generally be far more open minded about this than the old folk were about modern material. By the time we'd got round to the loud more current stuff the oldies would have left anyway, so everyone happy. Not exactly rocket science, but seen many pub rock bands struggle to keep any sort of audience in these circumstances.

I have played both kinds in my time.

In my ELO tribute band (not the one you mention thank goodness...) we occasionally get asked to perform at private functions, usually by people who are fans of ELO stuff. We always decline, on the basis that most of the audience won't be.

Sounds like the famous chicken wire scene in The Blues Brothers!

Two things would stop me being interested - no amps on stage and ‘shovel drums’ . WTF?!!

A few years ago me and a couple of friends managed to attend an evening seminar with Mr Rainey in Doncaster. Put together by Electro Music to promote Phil Jones amplification, Chuck was very entertaining, with lots of stories about his amazing career. Plenty of Steely Dan related stuff in the audience Q&A session, though for me would have rather listened to him recall the great sessions he did with Aretha. Lovely guy, but must admit to not being blown away by the sound he got with the PJ amps!

Even more so at this price Jack ! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1983-Fender-Squier-JV-Precision-Bass-Immaculate-Condition-A-Collectors-Dream/292498409677?_trkparms=aid%3D888007%26algo%3DDISC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D49138%26meid%3Dcf4bdc6637264745a3f1cc7749afca11%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D292498030689%26itm%3D292498409677&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982 -
Me too. Strings and Beyond are worth a look for good prices, even with postage from the US.

I thought I may need to up the gauge on mine, but down just a semitone hasn't made it necessary. I keep one bass in that tuning all the time, as I think constantly changing tunings may cause problems. (Haven't needed to adjust the neck at all in 7 or 8 years.)

Musician wins ruling over hearing loss.
casapete replied to musicbassman's topic in General Discussion
Read the news article with interest, as I spent 15 years in a band standing in front of a brass section. My hearing is compromised, but (touchwood) not severely so. I wore plugs in my later years as was starting to suffer from the effects of this, especially the bast*rd trumpet player whose instrument was my ear height. Add a drummer with cymbals set high and you can see why I left the band! Just hope my hearing holds out now, having used plugs where needed for the last ten years or so. -
Am guessing that's the 6x10? Great cabs too, and as you say same size as the Henry although a touch heavier. Stairs dilemma known as the dalek principle I believe!!

And interestingly also listed it as made in Japan ??

LOL. However, having owned one of these I didn't find it too much hassle to move around IIRC. I used to wheel it around, and loading into my Astra estate meant using the rear bumper to tilt it into the back which I could manage on my own. (I was a lot younger then though ...) Probably wouldn't have used the word 'portable' to describe it though, more 'not bad for it's weight' maybe? Just wish I had the space and playing situation to have one again, really fantastic cabs and for the money a no brainer.

I agree that good manners cost nowt, but to be honest have only ever had dealings with folk on here who have been great - one of the main reasons I love BC. Now gumtree and ebay, that's a completely different story.....

After doing a lot of gigs downtuned, I do find when reverting to concert pitch on other gigs how much 'brighter' things sound though, and almost feel a bit faster for some reason. Must admit to preferring this, but it's no deal breaker.
