  1. You wouldn’t believe what my acoustic duo gets requests for. We do a weekly pub gig where we encourage requests via forms we distribute on the bar & tables. We have lots of regular punters who know us well so most requests are reasonably doable. However you can always tell if the requests are from new punters as they vary from smart ar*e ( Bohemian Rhapsody etc) to obscure show tunes / heavy rap / metal / garage etc etc. Sometimes we do surprise them by having a go though.... 😄
  2. I'm doing the same, the occasional gig with a mate's band. Lot of Dad rock, but still fun. Helped by having a great drummer who is so easy to lock in with, and everyone's great attitude on the gig. Next one is mid August, looking forward to it already.
  3. Nothing wrong with a bit of Van for me either.
  4. Absolutely. That was the situation which continued well into the 70's when eventually fully live stuff was introduced. Some fared better at the miming routine than others - seem to remember The Who and The NY Dolls as being a little err..'casual' with this😄
  5. Few things that have been great for the money - Squier Jaguar short scale - great little bass, sounded fab Behringer BD121 - Okay, its a Sansamp rip off, but fantastic bit of kit for £25 Countryman U-bass - A third the price of a Kala, and just as good in most respects.
  6. +1 for the Vintage stuff. Had a V4 as a spare which I regret selling - was a bit heavy though.
  7. I had a Peavey 210 TX and it sounded great! IIRC 4 ohms / 175 watts rms though, so not the beefiest spec around but they do sound sweet. The horns have a tendency to fart out, but easy and cheap to replace. if the weight thing isn't an issue I'd stick with it.
  8. Didn't know LJ played on that - Brothers Johnson were signed to Herb's A&M though, as was their producer Quincy Jones.
  9. Mmm, not sure about that. Not a drum mike to be seen etc. I always thought that Soul Train was a bit like TOTP ( who sometimes used clips of ST when they couldn’t get USA acts into the BBC studios ) - bands would usually mime but feature a live vocal?
  10. Great clip! ( I can't slap so have some empathy...…) Also featuring a nearly dodgy note from Mr Alpert around 54s?
  11. Me too. Always found marquees to be the likeliest culprits although some older theaters can be problematic also.
  12. If they do then happy days, you know you're (in theory) both covered. If they don't then it's up to you if you want to risk using their supply, your call.
  13. Same as me owning a bass really......😅
  14. My amp tech friend always maintains that when you're asked by a venue for your PAT certificates, you should counter this by asking for their up to date certificate of electrical safety for the venue. Also more stuff here - http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg247.pdf
  15. From ebay (not that I'm suggesting such practice...) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Roll-1000-PAT-Test-Testing-PASS-Labels-Non-Rip-40-x-24mm-PASSED-Stickers/111189293839?hash=item19e365fb0f:g:zm8AAOxyDEVSbozG Be careful out there, lot of charlatans around.
  16. From Wiki - In the UK, there is no requirement to have a formal qualification for persons carrying out PAT Testing. The Electricity at Work regulations of 1989 simply state that where required, inspecting and testing must be carried out by a competent person, however does not mention a benchmark for competency. It has become accepted practice, however, for individuals operating as PAT Testers to hold a 2377–22 City and Guilds qualification. PAT Testers in the UK do not need to be electricians or have a background in the electrical industry. An example of a nationally recognised qualification of competence in PAT is offered by City & Guilds: 'Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment – 4th Edition (No. 2377)'.[13] although there are others provided by EAL available.
  17. Nice bass , but not quite sure if this fits the OP's brief again ?
  18. Great link - didn’t realise James played on so many famous albums, including ‘Let’s get it on’ . Thanks for posting.
  19. I got to around 1.40 before cracking up...excellent!
  20. D’Addario Chromes are great for me. Have also used their XL Half Rounds in the past, kind of a half way house between flats and roundwounds.

    U-Basses

I use Simple Pure Fine Talc, as it's unfragranced. Mrs CP put some in a jar which I keep in the uke gig bag. If ever I get stopped on the way home from a gig and the police do a search it could be interesting....
  22. Glad I didn't disappoint then...😄
  23. Thought Chic ( and also Nathaniel Rateliff & the Nightsweats ) did their best to make it a bit more jolly this week though.
  24. Never been convinced on Bob's supposed affinity with country - think he was given that job after they stopped his other programme, and he maybe decided to embrace it rather than the alternative. ( Haven't heard anyone call it 'country and western' for a while though 🙂 )
  25. Just used a good quality guitar gig bag for mine. May fit a generic guitar hard case like a Gator maybe?
