  1. Bass wise I’m afraid first thing I love about mine is the weight! A light instrument is essential for me, and finding ones which sound great is fantastic. And if they look good too then double whammy!
  2. Done this for a long time with one of my bands - I just keep a down tuned bass only for those gigs, no problems.
  3. Yes, quite easily too TBH. Especially if it was a PJ layout as well. My main requirement would be that it wasn't too heavy, as we do 2x60 min sets and my glass shoulder couldn't manage a clunker. My spare is an unbranded P-bass bought for £15 s/h which I've twice done a full gig with, with no dramas.
  4. I rarely suffer from getting nervous on gigs. The only time I do is when I know someone else is, and then it gets infectious and makes me uncomfortable. I'm fortunate enough to work with great people / players so it doesn't happen often, but when it does I have to have a word with myself. Also things going wrong onstage make me nervous for a while afterwards, but am guessing that probably applies to most performers?
  5. LOL. Absolutely, bombproof! When they come up, you see them for around £100 ish, depending on condition of course. Anything less would be a great deal IMO.
  6. I had a couple of these back in the day. The one you've pictured is IMO the best variant, having the switchable compressor. Later version had the dreaded Peavey built in 'DDT' which was designed to safeguard the speakers but in reality would kick in far too soon and limit the signal too much. I always liked mine, only swapped for a Trace 500w head IIRC. Quite loud and good EQ, with useful patch inputs too. Despite what it says on the back panel I wouldn't recommend running it into a 2ohm load, it will run very hot. The 210 watts into 4 ohms is plenty loud enough. The matching cab for these was a 4 ohm 2x15 Black Widow job, and would knock down walls. Incidentally how much is your mate asking for it?
  7. Thank you for the kind words chaps, much appreciated.
  8. If you need to adjust the settings, take a pic of theirs first so you can restore them after you’ve been on. ( Obviously check with them first to make sure that’s okay.)
  9. I used to work in a record store and remember loads of people bringing them back with exactly that complaint. Proggy bands with long track sequences suffered the most IIRC - Floyd, Yes etc
  10. After 8 track tapes naturally.....
  11. Apparently cassettes may be making a comeback. https://inews.co.uk/news/kylie-minogue-golden-album-leads-cassette-tape-revival-as-music-fans-rewind/
  12. Cheers Paul, no post dating it this time though eh?
  13. Cheers. It's not very 'rock n roll' but I still enjoy it. Fortunate to be working with a great bunch of people who all want to be there, which makes all the difference.
  14. Don't get too excited Dave......http://www.elotribute.com/
  15. I'm afraid our setup isn't very eco friendly either. 4 vehicles for every gig - Merc splitter bus (see pic) for the band and some drum stuff, Transit sized van with crew and backline, and another two vans with PA and lighting. Doesn't help that the band and crew are all from different areas either!
  16. Thanks for the replies, will have to look at getting to see the show at some point. Cheers.
  17. I started bids on it, but it went for £392 in the end!
  18. Great cabs, mine was fantastic. Getting rare these days too.
  19. Cheers Lozz. Anyone seen this? http://entertainers.co.uk/show/magic-of-motown-show/
  20. Was the band / bassist good Lozz?
  21. I was just wondering if anyone has been to see 'Motown the Musical' ? Always fancied going to see a good Motown show, and although not generally being a great fan of musicals, was wondering if anybody can recommend one. 'Magic of Motown' is another touring show doing theatres etc, am sure there are a few more. Something with a live band is essential, any recommendations welcomed. Cheers, Pete.
  22. Agreed. All were stunning ladies, and could vary from gorgeous to ridiculous purely due to the choreography. Some of the routines were cringingly bad, even to a school boy like myself at that time. Think PP later morphed into Legs and Co, and then Ruby Flipper?
  23. Not quite true - early OGWT were often mimed, with just a live lead vocal. Also TOTP in it's later years did feature live performances too.
  24. It's a fine line with drunken punters - can help make an evening, can help ruin it too. I do a small pub every week with my acoustic duo. Usually a nice evening, middle aged punters enjoying a few drinks and a laugh. Just every now and then a drunken nutter comes in and intimidates punters by staring at them and generally being a kn*b. He's a mate of the owners, so doesn't get ejected. Once he's up to his antics the whole mood of the evening changes, often for the rest of the night. Hopefully soon somebody will tw*t him when they've had enough of his behaviour. I've mentioned it to the owners, but they don't seem to care that he's potentially harming their/our business. That's what is best, usually for both the band and audience.
  25. That's how I use mine - dead easy, no bother. I know you said you didn't want to use another pedal, but a cheap simple solution would be this - https://www.rimmersmusic.co.uk/behringer-bdi21v-tone-bass-modelling-preamp-p33946/s34377?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=behringer-bdi21v-tone-bass-modelling-preamp-zb251&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItOCSieT42QIV77DtCh3v4gzhEAQYBCABEgJjhfD_BwE Cheap as chips, and handy as a spare DI box in the future.
