Am sure they deal with snow better in the US than here, but maybe because you get a lot more of it?!! We were faced with a 400 mile round trip in dreadful weather with road closures all en route, to possibly face a depleted audience, many of whom probably couldn't get there and therefore lose their outlay on tickets. By re-arranging the date, hopefully the majority will now be able to make it and we will hopefully have a band and crew arrive and return home home safely.

We had to cancel our gig tonight in Cheltenham, as getting band and crew there from Yorkshire was just not feasible. Hate doing it, but it's probably for the best as conditions were so bad. Got the date rearranged already though for early April, so hope the punters will be happy.

HH IC100 was one of the first amps guitar amps made by the company. Probably mid 70's IIRC. A guitarist had one in the band I was in and it was very loud, although the distortion sounds were n't great, bit fizzy. Used by quite a few people including Marc Bolan, Wilko Johnson and Pink Floyd. They even have their own facebook page!

Isn't it funny that if you go back to the 70's and beyond, having a bottle of water onstage was mostly considered unnecessary, even by singers. You just got up there and did it. (waits for deluge of YouTube clips showing vocalists drinking now...) The recent fad for not being able to leave the house without a bottle of water to hand has no doubt had something to do with this? ( For the record, I do have a bottle of water onstage, but only for those times when my crap voice is in danger of packing in altogether.)

Whilst I agree with most of what's been said, what about the times when some songs do need to be ramped up a bit, usually in order to make them more punter friendly to dance to? Although this can make them a bit less groovy than the originals, people are so used to hearing them a bit faster that they think the original tempos are a bit leaden. Prime examples of these include 'Knock on Wood', 'In the Midnight hour' and even 'Mustang Sally'. Probably due to Commitments style renderings I imagine, but played at the original (and better IMO) tempos, they can discourage people to dance from my experience. Anyone have any more examples of songs that go down better that little bit 'brighter'?

Looks like a kind of Musicman Reflex inspired bass. At £99 including a gig bag and lead, you probably can't go far wrong TBH. Gear4music have a 30 day return option so the risk is minimal too. As Hobbayne points out, Squier stuff is generally good for the money, and has the added advantage of holding onto their prices quite well when/if you decide to sell to upgrade. Second hand is best for a lot of people, although if you're a complete novice it's best to take along a more knowledgeable mate to help you. Try something out if you can, as only then will you know what will suit you best. If that's not possible, then at least prepare yourself for maybe having to buy & sell a bit till you find your 'fit', although you never know you may get lucky first time! Good luck.

Yup, couldn't agree more. Ash in particular is amazing, and the whole band just do a great job.

I did a 'Strictly Come Dancing' type of event at Christmas, and knowing how particular the dancers can be regarding tempos, the drummer brought along a digital metronome which proved to be invaluable. No complaints at all. Reminds me of a great keyboard player I worked with who used to ask the dancers - " Right, your next dance is a tango. How do you want it - too fast or too slow?"

Even worse when the perp is the drummer! At least singers can be jollied along a bit by the rest of the band, whereas it's usually just down to the bassist to try and sort the tempos out if the drummer is at fault. I speak from bitter experience....

Fair enough if you do a myriad of different styles / gigs. I'm just one of those old school guys who expects to use just one main amp to cover all my gigs without having to add stuff to it, or carry alternative amps.

Exactly - but then why do people spend a fortune on an expensive amp to only use the power amp section? Beats me!

Don't mind a bit of Quo, but thought this was rather too bizarre for me. As a massive Beach Boys fan I was amazed they agreed to it too, even Brian is in there! Not one of either band's finest moments, that's for sure.

You see, having that amount of controls would instantly put me off the amp! I struggle with the 4 bands on my GK stuff but know pretty much to mostly leave them alone. Still can't understand too why some people buy an expensive amp with lots of tonal options and then choose to run it with a preamp with even more going on.

Ah, okay. I must get round to trying some flats, don't know about tapewounds though! Love a PJ combo too.
