  1. I use the Sansamp just as a straightforward DI to the desk, using the parallel (unaffected) output into my amp. I'm not a big fan of using an outboard preamp into the front end of my amp head, but when I've tried the Sansamp in this capacity it did seem okay for adding a bit of overdrive. Have you checked out their sample settings? Link here http://www.tech21nyc.com/support/manuals/sansamp/BassDriver-OM1.pdf
  2. Having played a 63 Precision for many years, I had to go for something lighter following a shoulder injury. I now play Precision Lyte's, with a narrow jazz style neck, and made the transition very easily. Can still manage a P-bass / Stingray shape neck, but sadly not for very long standing up!
  3. One of the best options for a Precision with a slimmer neck is the Deluxe active model. Great basses IMO. https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Fender-Deluxe-Active-P-Bass-Special-MN-3-Colour-Sunburst/1N4M?utm_campaign=bEngine - Fender&utm_medium=paid_search&network=google&adgroup=41346780886&matchtype=b&utm_term=%2Bfender %2Bdeluxe %2Bactive %2Bp&device=c&creative=245719922121&adposition=2t1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvpb70IOR2QIVC54bCh1Dlgw6EAAYASAAEgKVhfD_BwE
  4. Here's a link to the Harley Benton one I mentioned earlier. Cheers. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp90bk_shortscale_ebass.htm
  5. Depends on the age / size of the child really. Tanglewood Elfin EB18 is a great little thing, P-bass style but downsized with a 25” scale. They sound surprisingly good too. Not sure if they are still being made, but s/h ones seem to crop up regularly for around £80 ish. Think Harley Benton do a similar sized bass as well. If they’re too small, look at a 30” scale job . The Squier Jaguars are well thought of here, and are another good s/h buy at around £125 ish, new just under £200. Good enough to gig with too!
  6. Wish I'd known Mart, you could have had mine. Impulse buy and then stupidly impulse sold it! If I see a s/h one anywhere I'll give you a shout. Cheers.
  7. Totally agree - great MIJ Fenders that you can still pick up s/h for around the £300 mark, and worth every penny.
  8. Agreed - in fact, have Yamaha ever made anything crap? Years ago had a BB300 that was bottom of the range and fantastic, especially for the money.
  9. Agreed. Only reason I sold mine was it's weight, bit on the chunky side for me. Great for the money though.
  10. As with the guitars, some of the early Tokai basses were particularly good. The P-bass (Hard Puncher) I had was a cracker, as good if not better than the USA Fenders at the time.
  11. Think I'm probably not the only one on here who has had to sell a great instrument when finances dictate it?
  12. Another budget SS is the Squier Jaguar. Great basses for the money, s/h around £125 ish.
  13. Just got mine, works great too. No brainer for me...
  14. Selling two sets of brand new / unused Warwick Acoustic bass strings. These are the Red label / long scale / 5 string variety. Bronze roundwound , with gauges 045 / 065 / 085 / 105 / 135. Got these bought as a present, but not really suitable for me. Great for 4 or 5 string basses SOLD - locally to a mate.
  15. Being in a tribute band, we constantly have the problem of keeping it fresh whilst still playing the staple tunes everyone expects to hear. Each year we jig the set around a bit, usually adding 3 or 4 lesser known songs and trying to keep the others sounding as good as possible. ( It's a fine line to walk sometimes, with the old fans just wanting the hits and the afficianados wanting some album tracks, but we just about manage it, I hope anyway.... )
  16. Understand your hesitation, but £25 does get you a lot of bang for the buck. I've used mine ( as a spare / double for my Sansamp to be fair ) for 3 years now with no problems.
  17. Maybe worth looking at these too - https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Behringer-BDI21-V-Tone-Bass-Preamp/6LV Great little Sansamp clone for £25 with DI, if you can get over the Behringer thing
  18. I think techniques regularly employed by some bassists probably do more damage ....
  19. Just checked t’internet, seems there are a few out there! Sunburst and black look cool IMO, not sure about the orange though? Priced around £299 / £319.
  20. I started a thread somewhere on here when they were first announced. Think they look ace, but havent managed to see any recently. I think GAK had them in? Nice to see an original design that still manages to have a retro feel to it.
