  1. Read the news article with interest, as I spent 15 years in a band standing in front of a brass section. My hearing is compromised, but (touchwood) not severely so. I wore plugs in my later years as was starting to suffer from the effects of this, especially the bast*rd trumpet player whose instrument was my ear height. Add a drummer with cymbals set high and you can see why I left the band! Just hope my hearing holds out now, having used plugs where needed for the last ten years or so.
  2. Am guessing that's the 6x10? Great cabs too, and as you say same size as the Henry although a touch heavier. Stairs dilemma known as the dalek principle I believe!!
  3. And interestingly also listed it as made in Japan ??
  4. LOL. However, having owned one of these I didn't find it too much hassle to move around IIRC. I used to wheel it around, and loading into my Astra estate meant using the rear bumper to tilt it into the back which I could manage on my own. (I was a lot younger then though ...) Probably wouldn't have used the word 'portable' to describe it though, more 'not bad for it's weight' maybe? Just wish I had the space and playing situation to have one again, really fantastic cabs and for the money a no brainer.
  5. I agree that good manners cost nowt, but to be honest have only ever had dealings with folk on here who have been great - one of the main reasons I love BC. Now gumtree and ebay, that's a completely different story.....
  6. After doing a lot of gigs downtuned, I do find when reverting to concert pitch on other gigs how much 'brighter' things sound though, and almost feel a bit faster for some reason. Must admit to preferring this, but it's no deal breaker.
  7. Bass wise I’m afraid first thing I love about mine is the weight! A light instrument is essential for me, and finding ones which sound great is fantastic. And if they look good too then double whammy!
  8. Done this for a long time with one of my bands - I just keep a down tuned bass only for those gigs, no problems.
  9. Yes, quite easily too TBH. Especially if it was a PJ layout as well. My main requirement would be that it wasn't too heavy, as we do 2x60 min sets and my glass shoulder couldn't manage a clunker. My spare is an unbranded P-bass bought for £15 s/h which I've twice done a full gig with, with no dramas.
  10. I rarely suffer from getting nervous on gigs. The only time I do is when I know someone else is, and then it gets infectious and makes me uncomfortable. I'm fortunate enough to work with great people / players so it doesn't happen often, but when it does I have to have a word with myself. Also things going wrong onstage make me nervous for a while afterwards, but am guessing that probably applies to most performers?
  11. LOL. Absolutely, bombproof! When they come up, you see them for around £100 ish, depending on condition of course. Anything less would be a great deal IMO.
  12. I had a couple of these back in the day. The one you've pictured is IMO the best variant, having the switchable compressor. Later version had the dreaded Peavey built in 'DDT' which was designed to safeguard the speakers but in reality would kick in far too soon and limit the signal too much. I always liked mine, only swapped for a Trace 500w head IIRC. Quite loud and good EQ, with useful patch inputs too. Despite what it says on the back panel I wouldn't recommend running it into a 2ohm load, it will run very hot. The 210 watts into 4 ohms is plenty loud enough. The matching cab for these was a 4 ohm 2x15 Black Widow job, and would knock down walls. Incidentally how much is your mate asking for it?
  13. Thank you for the kind words chaps, much appreciated.
  14. If you need to adjust the settings, take a pic of theirs first so you can restore them after you’ve been on. ( Obviously check with them first to make sure that’s okay.)
  15. I used to work in a record store and remember loads of people bringing them back with exactly that complaint. Proggy bands with long track sequences suffered the most IIRC - Floyd, Yes etc
  16. After 8 track tapes naturally.....
  17. Apparently cassettes may be making a comeback. https://inews.co.uk/news/kylie-minogue-golden-album-leads-cassette-tape-revival-as-music-fans-rewind/
  18. Cheers Paul, no post dating it this time though eh?
  19. Cheers. It's not very 'rock n roll' but I still enjoy it. Fortunate to be working with a great bunch of people who all want to be there, which makes all the difference.
  20. Don't get too excited Dave......http://www.elotribute.com/
  21. I'm afraid our setup isn't very eco friendly either. 4 vehicles for every gig - Merc splitter bus (see pic) for the band and some drum stuff, Transit sized van with crew and backline, and another two vans with PA and lighting. Doesn't help that the band and crew are all from different areas either!
  22. Thanks for the replies, will have to look at getting to see the show at some point. Cheers.
  23. I started bids on it, but it went for £392 in the end!
  24. Great cabs, mine was fantastic. Getting rare these days too.
