1. Mine too. Often see players locally who are technically better than me, but have somehow managed to make a living from playing bass now for well over 20 years, so must be doing something right I guess.
 2. Mine feels quite solid thanks, even on a cold day like this....
 3. Saw them in Manchester earlier this year, absolutely amazing!
 4. Agreed a decent strap will help distribute the weight somewhat , but it's still gonna be 13lbs on your shoulder whatever. Just imagine how amazing a bass would feel that weighs around half of it? Time for GAS / NBD.....
 5. Yup, see my post above^^. Great lightweight basses that still feel like a proper bass despite weighing next to nowt.
 6. Now reduced to £300, that’s 50% off the discounted online price!
 7. I had a couple of US Sterlings, and agree with all you say , except for the weight thing. Maybe I’ve just been unlucky, but mine were not noticeably lighter than my Stingrays were, despite the smaller body dimensions. Great basses though, very underrated IMO.
 8. Since an accident resulting in a shoulder injury, I can only play light basses now -the thought of a 13lb bass makes me wince! As you say, Danelectros are very light, but do seem a bit of a Marmite thing on here - loved or hated etc. My Dano Longhorn is probably around the 6lbs mark, and despite being a touch neck heavy (alleviated by a decent strap) , it sounds and plays great. Not a lot of tonal variation maybe, but what there is sounds good ,to my ears anyway. Quite surprised nobody has yet mentioned the Fender Precision Lyte ( clue is in the name...) . Made in Japan from around 1989 to 97, they are fabulous basses IMO. Slim jazz neck, PJ pickups / active and weigh around the 7lbs mark. Balance well with no neck dive too. Decent ones come up quite often for around £350ish, an absolute bargain for a well made Japanese instrument. I have 3 of them, and they make long gigs so much easier.
 9. I had on briefly in the 80s, great bass. Mine was metallic red which was the only reason I sold it I think!
 10. Only tried the Mustang out briefly in a shop, and was quite impressed. However, did have a Squier SS Jaguar for a while and thought it was great, especially at the price point. Sounded fine with the PJ pickups, and really light too. Rather foolishly sold it when I was a bit skint .
 11. This exactly ^^^^ Standard Stingrays are just fine IMO, especially in natural as their bodies have usually been chosen for the best grain. Unless you really have GAS for the wackier finishes/options on the other two, I’d go for the natural 3eq one. A lot of people reckon the 2eq models sound better, but having had a few of both I’d say just ‘different’ really. The 3eq offers a wide range of tones, more than you’ll probably need but always good to have.
 12. Depending on the quality / output of your PA, be mindful of bass (and also kick drum) reducing headroom in the PA mix for everything else. If it copes then fine, but more basic systems may well be compromised by putting too much through it.
 13. I was always made to believe one of the reasons that sound techs preferred a DI box feed was to prevent any problems should the amp fail? I have a good XLR DI feed on my GK amp, but send the signal to the desk via a Sansamp for this reason. The Sansamp is also phantom powered, never had a problem with this ( so far.....). As with pre eq DI feed from the amp, it's good for me to be able to eq my sound onstage without affecting out front, although I don't rely on the tone shaping from the Sansamp for my 'sound' , just use it for the DI really.
 14.
Not the worst list I've ever seen but The Cure and Oasis, Super Furry Animals, all great bands but top 20 greatest of all time? Pretty subjective (as usual)
All these and no Sex Pistols ? Crikey.....
 15.
Quite. Add to that Seasick Steve, Christine and The Queens, Pokie Lafarge and KT Tunstall. All acts he brought to my personal attention.
Yup, agreed. Mine include St Paul and the Broken Bones, Chatham County Line, Amy Winehouse and Adele, amongst many others.
 16.
Reading back through the thread so far, it seems that apparently Later is crap for the following reasons (some of them slightly paraphrased):

The bands are too extreme or boring.
There's no rock, metal or prog.
It's not the Old Grey Whistle Test.
It's too diverse and lumpy.
It's mostly about veterans, indie bands and quirky singers from islands somewhere.
It's too polite and needs edge and energy.
The acts are only on because they have an album to plug.
It's over the hill and stuffy.
There are far more well known and popular genres that don't get on it.
It needs a more diverse range of music.
It's trendy and pretentious.
It's not my taste in music.
I think that last one sums it up perfectly. It's crap because it doesn't have the stuff that *I* like. Although I suppose if it's simultaneously too trendy/pretentious AND over the hill/stuffy, it must be doing something right
17.
I buy my cables from one of the guys here on Basschat. So do a lot of us. You'll see a lot of recommendations for OBBM cables. http://bassic-bits.co.uk/ You could drop him a line for more info.
+1 to this. Quality components are all that's needed to make cables that, with a bit of care, will last for decades. Always makes me smile when I see someone has paid out a fortune on the latest fad in cable world - check out what the pros use next time you're at a gig or on YouTube. Am betting there won't be gold plating / big ugly plastic jack plugs / fluorescent colours etc involved somehow.
 18. A nice Squier JV 57 Precision, black with a maple neck. Bought cheap, sold for a little more, now worth a lot! Also my 70's Ampeg SVT rig. The best thing I've ever used, sold it too cheap to a guy who drove up to Yorkshire from darn sarf in an old Escort van to collect it - he got a brilliant set up at a cracking price. Still miss it.
 19.
Always liked the version by Gladys Night as well. Although a different vibe and feel from the Marvin Gaye version, it has a terrific, funky Bassline.
Love the Gladys version too. This was actually recorded first, predating Marvin's version by a year or so. But which one is best?.........FIGHT!..................
 20. I had a later 135 watt model with a matching cab. Black panel, 2 channels etc. Great sound but as you say, was lacking in headroom for me and not the easiest rig to transport either. Sold it and moved on to a Trace 500 I think.
