  1. Never tried flats on my Longhorn, so am curious to know what they'll be like. The rounds have been on it a while now, and probably would be too dead for me on another bass but still sound fine on the Dano!
  2. Exactly this. Also there were a lot more colours offered in the Korean models, as well as the Pro version like mine which is not as vintage accurate as the others - no binding, different controls and upgraded bridge and tuners. Will be using it at a rock’n’roll club tomorrow night. 🙂
  3. Great score Paul, looks fantastic mate.
  4. I actually caught this by accident last night, excellent programme! Was on Freeview channel 83 here - worth keeping an eye open for it as these channels often seem to re show stuff at random times.
  5. Cheers Stew, it’s a cracking amp. I’ve been slowly reducing my kit since leaving my band, but didn’t have any interest on here for it. Sold my main GK stuff on Marketplace, at what I thought were very reasonable prices. Thought I’d try and buck the trend with this one. 🤞
  6. Up for sale is my GK bass amp head. I’ve owned this a few years as a spare for my bigger GK amp, but it’s rarely been used. A few marks here and there but overall in good condition. Sounds excellent, active tone controls and plenty of volume! Not a great deal of difference between this and my old GK 700RB to be honest. Only thing worth mentioning is the missing cap from the on/off switch. It works fine, but have to use a fingernail or the tip of your guitar jack plug lead to operate it. I’ve tried to source the part, but GK have recently swapped distributors in the UK so will take a while to obtain one from the US. Price is reduced accordingly, although in real terms you don’t need to get a replacement unless it bothers you - amp works 100% as it is. One of these sold recently on eBay for £175, I have it advertised elsewhere at £125 but for the BC Collective I'll let it go for just £100. Bargain or what?!! Cash on collection greatly preferred - amp is in the Brough area of East Yorkshire. Possible help with delivery (depending where and when etc) for my fuel costs. May also post in the UK, cost and method to be your responsibility please. I can pack it up well. Not interested in trades thanks, just downsizing my stuff! Specs are - Output - 300 watts @ 4 ohms / 200 watts @ 8 ohms 4 band active EQ Adjustable contour Effects loop Boost valve effect Overdrive (footswitchable) XLR output with ground and pre/post switch Tuner out 2 x 1/4 inch jack speaker outputs 17”wide / 3-1/2” high / 12” deep Weight - 16lbs.
  7. He took over from Brian Jones in The Stones. You young ‘uns can’t be expected to know I suppose…..😅
  8. Jools Holland and his R’n’B orchestra this Friday in Scunthorpe. Looking forward to seeing singers Imelda May and Ruby Turner, although of course I’ll also be keeping an eye on the wonderful bass playing of Dave Swift. Also not long to seeing Sheryl Crow and her amazing band at Halifax in June.
  9. Gallien Krueger speakon to speakon cable, as supplied with their cabinets. Approx 2.3 metres in length. To operate your GK 700RB or 1001RB amp in full bi-amp mode, you need this 4-conductor speakon cable. However, I've used mine in full range mode whilst using this cable too, so just adds the bi-amp option if you want it. New these are around £35 , so a bargain at a tenner. NOW SOLD. Cheers.
  10. Agreed, a great venue. Hope you have a good one!
  11. Saw this, very watchable. Tonight at 10pm their guest is Cyndi Lauper.
  12. I have one of these too, and it’s one of the best acoustics I’ve ever played. (Mine is a bit more beaten up than yours though. 😦)
  13. I still have a small Spanish guitar my Gran brought me back from a Spanish holiday around 1966. That’s the instrument that started me on this road. I’ve had my 63 Precision for getting on 40 years now, and can’t see me ever parting with it. Had my Precision Lyte for around 14 years, and done nearly 800 gigs with it. ( Bought a near identical one as a spare not long after but haven’t used it so maybe time to move that one on soon. ) Still got a 59 Les Paul Junior I’ve had for around 35 years, again a keeper. Also a 57 Strat USA reissue for about 20 years now. Couple of years ago I sold a late 60’s Marshall 18 watt combo I’d had over 45 years ( I think) as I had an offer for it I couldn’t refuse.
  14. Want to just save time and ship it straight up to me Paul? 🤣 Need pics as soon as it is cleaned and fettled please.
  15. I did a similar thing with a Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer, as used by Mark Knopfler and Steely Dan. Bought it for around £25, and sold it for £200 just before the (inferior) reissues came out. Also sold my 80’s Tube Screamer to a dealer a couple of years ago. Think it cost me around £30 new back then, got £250 for it.
  16. Just got home from our now monthly gig at The Sun Inn in Beverley. Usual request style gig with my acoustic duo, and some great tunes asked for including ‘A town called malice’, ‘Shotgun’ and a bizarre Pulp Fiction medley comprising ‘Miserlou’ segueing into ‘You never can tell’! At one point they had the door locked to prevent any more people coming in, and also ran out of glasses - the place was absolutely rammed. Although a great crowd of people, it is one of those gigs that is very full on - we do three 40 minute sets and with so many people it is impossible to play all their requests. Still, plenty of good comments afterwards, and the landlord was pleased with the turnout too. ( Picture below is from last week at Scarborough, just sent to me by a punter).
  17. Slight derail - does anybody else keep a record of what they buy and sell? I’ve only done this for the last few years, but it’s amazing how much you can forget what you paid for something and what you sold things for too. Handy for when you come to part with things so you can set a fair selling price. ( Also useful when dealing with your tax return! ) Back OT, I try to break even with stuff - buy s/h at a reasonable price and then if I don’t get on with it then hopefully won’t lose much either. However, fads/trends often come along to scupper this but that’s just how the market goes I guess, same as anything else really. Recent hikes in s/h ( and new ) stuff has definitely slowed me down in buying things though - in my mind a tidy Mexican Precision is worth around £350/£400, whereas they now seem to be more like £500/£550 or more. Sold a couple of Stingrays a few years ago before they hit the current s/h price of around £1250 - £1400, but still got back around what I paid for them.
  18. Emailed Andertons a few days ago with a query about GK amp spares. Very quick response, and although they couldn’t help me out immediately, I was really impressed with their service.
  19. What, you play in Hull too? 🤣
  20. Thanks, I hoped it hasn’t seemed like showboating though - just thought it may have been of interest to see what being in a theatre band was like. All through my time doing this I’ve also kept playing pubs, cafes and private gigs ( mainly with my duo), so I’ve always loved the contrast between the two scenarios. Doing the smaller gigs has meant I’ve never taken the wonderful old theatres for granted, and I will miss playing them a lot. ( Tonight though I’m in an ordinary town pub on the outskirts of Hull playing requests for a small and often inebriated crowd. 😆)
  21. Thanks Gary. It’s been a hard decision to make, but I’ve recently turned 66 and feel the time is right to sit back a bit now. Played in bands for 50 years, 30 of which have been professional so can’t complain! It does! Just feel blessed to have been with such a great set up for so long. (Must have been great though, as I’ve never been a number one ELO fan either!j
  22. Saturday night I played at The Alexandra Theatre in Birmingham, which was my final gig with The ELO Experience. Another grand old venue which first opened in 1901, capacity just under 1400 with two large balconies , the upper one being very high and steep. The gig went well, a good onstage sound despite a change of rig as I’ve sold my usual one! Used my GK800RB again, this time with my old standby cab - a Loud Inc 4x10. Really enjoyed using it, and pleased it was enough for such a big venue/stage. It was a near sell out gig which made it great for my last one, as well as being my 800th appearance with the band. I first played with them as a dep at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in May 2009, and then joined permanently in 2011 - first gigs were a short tour of Northern Ireland which were very memorable. I couldn’t have found a better bunch of people to work with, starting out as a 5 piece & then adding 2 cellists and a violinist. It’s been an absolute pleasure throughout, and I really will miss the band and crew (pictured below) who have become like family. I’ll still be playing with the acoustic duo though, as well as any deps that may come my way so will hopefully be gigging more locally for many years to come.
