I guess its different (New York Rock band formed 1998) for different folks....
Absolutely! Amongst all my muso mates, I'm the only naysayer so it must be me, right? Obviously amazing playing, but I'm afraid that isn't enough to win me over. Also the vocals don't really make that connection for me, not having that indefinable something which reaches out and demands your attention. I do like the really early Steely Dan stuff, but lost it before 'Aja' when it all went a bit too jazzy for me. No big surprise I suppose as I generally prefer more live / real / spontaneous sounding music, and this is just too damned clever / overproduced / slick / perfect for my taste. And please, turn it in with those 9th / 11th chords......

Saw him recently in Bingley. Thoroughly recommend the show, very funny. Took Mrs CP and she loved it too, so not just for bassists.
I've seen footage of the whole band using MM rigs, and the rhythm guitarist using a Stingray guitar also - I think Carl Radle was one of the first bassists using the Stingray and continued to for a long period.
That's right. They had a MM endorsement deal I think, certainly remember EC in adverts at the time. He and guitarist George Terry used MM 130 watt heads and 4x12 cabs with EV speakers fitted. Think Carl used the MM bass heads into 1x15 ported cabs, again with the EV option. Certainly sounded good to me at Bridlington Spa hall, was right at the front. One of the most memorable gigs I've been to.

Nice piece on a very underrated player. Saw him with Clapton in the mid 70's and he was fantastic. Also one of the first players I remember seeing with a MM Stingray ( and matching MM rig!)

Another +1 for the GK MB range. I have an MB800, and am looking for a backup so will probably seek out an MB200. Sound great and featherlight.

Never got this album at all - too perfect and clinical for me, lacking in soul - runs for cover........

Had an SWR 8x8 cab, lean back style. Didn't prove a problem unless (like Daleks) there were stairs involved. Having a van / vehicle with a flat loading area is key, you just angle it to get the optimum angle, lift and should be reasonably easy to push forward. Some of the SVT style cabs have 'skids', two rails on the rear which makes this easier too.

Fabulous!

+1 to the above. Basically your 4x10 should be able to handle pretty much any amp you use, so your Ashdown would be fine with either cab on it's own if you prefer that. This clip shows how to check your cab ohmage. Cheers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT3WMt7nrjw

Continuing my clear out of stuff I no longer use/need, here is a lovely old guitar case. I'm guessing it is from the 50's, maybe 60's? It's in a beige finish bound with brown edges. I'm assuming (like other luggage from the period) that it's made of a hard cardboard material. It has 3 latches and 3 hinges, all in good working order. Lining is in a red velvet material. Approximate internal dimensions are 102cms long / 38cms wide at bottom bout / 30cms wide at upper bout / neck section 11cms wide. Internal depth is around 13cms. I imagine it would fit a smaller acoustic / parlour guitar, would be ideal if you have a guitar from the same period or just want a funky case for your more modern instrument. It is in remarkably good condition, especially considering it may well be 50 years old plus! Some slight fading, and a slight tear in the lining of the lid but otherwise fantastic for it's age. Would make nice display piece too. Case is in Hessle, East Yorkshire, possible help with delivery / meet up depending on where /when. Near offers considered! Prefer not to post at this stage, and no trades thanks. Cheers,Pete. SOLD!!

I see that DV247 are currently doing these for £829, which seems like a cracking deal. Not my kind of thing unfortunately, but for those who love 'em ......... http://www.dv247.com/guitars/gibson-les-paul-standard-bass-guitar-heritage-cherry-sunburst--227064?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4OWQo8_U1QIVBb7tCh2gfQMuEAQYASABEgIu2fD_BwE

Not quite OT, but I run a GK1001RB into a GK Neo410. Use it with an active Fender Precision Lyte 4 string, and it's never struggled for volume/tone in any of the venues I've used it. We play mainly theatres / occasional outdoor stuff , bass DI'd into the PA. I would imagine a 5-er would be no problem too.

Loud Inc usually used Eminence USA components. I've had three of them, two 4x10's and a 1x15. The 4x10's used either 250 or 300 watt drivers, making the cabs 1000/1200watt handling. They also came with a crappy piezo type horn ( which often packed in quickly! ) Came in both 8 and 4 ohm options. The 1x15's were mostly 350 watts/8 ohms with no horn. Both cabs were the same dimensions IIRC, so stacked well. Quite lightweight construction but reasonably sturdy - my first 4x10 took a lot of hammering for years and never failed. Good gear at very good prices, the drivers alone are not worth a fortune so best leave them as they are! ( Probably worth checking your 4x10 is 8 ohm, as pairing a 4 ohm 4x10 with your 8 ohm 1x15 may cause your amp problems. Would assume as you bought the rig together though, both cabs will be 8 ohms. ) Cheers.

Fender Rumbles are really great, sound well and good value for the money.

Love Hartke stuff, great bang for the buck. My favourite is the HA3500 - reliable great sounding amp. I replaced an SVT3pro with one and it blew the Ampeg away , and for around half the price too. Not had many Hartke cabs, for me not as strong as the amps though.

Yesterday I played pure cheesey tunes as a dep (loved it)
casapete replied to police squad's topic in General Discussion
Nothing wrong with that, I've done it for 40 years! Playing music that people obviously enjoy / dance to is still what it's all about for me. And believe it or not, I do play / listen to some of it when at home too! Never bothered about confessing my love of good pop music - just because it's popular doesn't make it sh*te in my opinion. I did a birthday barbecue on Saturday night - about 50 people in total, all up dancing to 'Sweet Home Alabama' etc etc - happy days. -
Danelectro DC59 - 90's sparkly Korean reissue - SOLD!

Reluctantly selling my Danelectro DC59 bass. It's a late 90's model made in Korea, and now quite rare. Apparently better than the recent reissues made in China, and those aren't available in this great finish either. It's in VGC, a few minor marks but nothing serious. A good 8/10 !! Could probably do with set up & some new strings as the ones on are a bit tired - will throw in a set for the asking price. It's very light, balances okay and sounds like it should. Bought this off Paul S on here, and just never got round to using it so it's exactly as in the picture which was originally on Paul's sale listing. Moving it on for the same price to a fellow BC person too... It's priced to sell - the new reissues are currently £549 at gear4music, so this is a deal!! (Can add a hard case for £25 if you need one.) No trades at the moment thanks, just need to thin the herd. Will email you more pics if you PM me ( once I've managed to take some! ) Bass is in East Yorkshire, west of Hull. Possible help with delivery / meet up, depending where and when etc. Delivery may be possible, but will have to include the hard case for another £25 as wouldn't dream of posting this in just a box. Spec below, cheers. Danelectro Bass Guitars sprung to popularity thanks to John Entwhistle from The Who, who is known to play their Danelectro Longhorn Bass. With the reissue of the 59DC you can again achieve that classic sound that sits perfectly in any mix. So...why haven't you got a Trace Elliot then..
casapete replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
Used plenty of Trace stuff, and always thought it was okay but not particularly inspiring. Best one was an AH250 head which I bought, the large one with the UV tube etc. It was built like a brick sh*thouse, loud and reliable but somehow a bit lacking in warmth/soul? Sold it to a pal of mine who is still happily using it today though. -
Mate of mine had the 2x15 you mention, great cab although stupid heavy. He used it with the HH VS bass amp, sounded good and surprisingly loud too. When I first started playing in bands, HH and Carlsbro were the brands that we could afford , and easy to get hold of. We had an HH PA system which we thought was super cool, purchased from the original Music Ground shop in Dunscroft just outside Doncaster. Bought it on credit, paid the loan back weekly with earnings from the Northern club circuit. Happy days.
Eerrmm... I'm really not being contrarian for the sake of it but this sounded pretty weak to me. Even Adele's bassist was struggling to muster too much enthusiasm about its practical application for a bass player and he's the dude endorsing it. The only selling point for me would be the smaller scale and size making it easier to get around (not that standard sized acoustic bass guitars are that difficult to get around compared to lugging a DB,) but then when you do get it to a jam with others you have even less volume, projection and clarity of tone than a standard scale acoustic bass guitar and are left with a muddy, slack stringed sound. I just don't get it, not for me.
Agreed, but does anyone really use an unamplified acoustic bass for anything other than home noodling / very quiet rehearsal? The Taylor seemed reasonably bright for a short scale job, but sounded great when plugged in.

The HH V-S ( 'valve sound') amps were 100 watt models. People often used to use a power amp to boost this - HH did a matching power amp for this purpose, making 200 watts in total. Back in the 70's / early 80's this was considered overkill!

Most appropriate Bass for Country/Country Rock/Folk
casapete replied to Rocker's topic in General Discussion
Been doing various country gigs for years, using either old Precision or Danelectro Longhorn. Anything with plenty of thud will do the job!
