Due to getting a hard case at Christmas, my gig bag is now for sale. It's a TGI, and fits my Countryman uke fine. Will probably fit others too, such as Tanglewood, Harley Benton and Kala etc. and also baritone ukes. It's in top condition, and comes with a small uke stand too, again as new. Gig bag was new around £17, and the stand £6. £10 for both. ****SOLD**** I'm near Hull, East Yorkshire so collection / meet up preferable, as maybe not worthwhile posting? ( Estimate around a fiver to post.) Cheers.

Anywhere good to get food near the Manchester arena?
Over on "Mancuniancuisinechat" at the moment, they're discussing whether Flea is better than Mark King.
-
Youth of today, they don't know they're born. When I wert lad we had to suffer for our music... etc etc etc etc Reading this thread has given me so much pleasure in so many ways! And it reminded me just how much the cultural context is necessary to understand the culture of even a few years ago. I don't know Bubinga5's age but I suspect not as old and decrepit as some of us. How can you possibly justify Timmy Mallet? Well, maybe not justify but explain... don't forget he was the host of one of the most popular kids shows of the time so he had a premade pre-teen customer base however good or rubbish the tune was. Then there is the tune itsef. A complete zeitgeist collection of summer tunes. Remember that in the 80s and 90s when you went to Spain or The Balearics the discos and clubs weren't playing Pete Tong or Fatboy Slim they were playing these buts of Europop trash. So the Mallett tune had a built in adult audience too. There was a culture of such novelty songs and they were hugely popular and made shed loads of cash. The Timmy Mallett tune is no different to a host of others whic made it to No 1 in the charts. And they weren't designed for any artistic merit. Nope they were just designed to make CASH. We don't really have novelty songs these days as far as I can see. Even Crazy Frog was over a decade ago. Different times! I'll leave youngsters with a couple of No odds to mull over and thank their lucky stars they dont live back then... +1 for Mowgli. Also Ply on Lever Street - great pizza and beer. -
We actually do a cover of that. I hate that song with a passion and was not keen on the idea, but sadly, it really goes down well. <sigh> This I always hated - the worst excess of disco as it is out of tune. One of the guys involved in Star Trekking is a bit of a legend round here, lovely bloke called Dave Tenney. Very clever musician and a great guitarist, been a pro most of his life. He wrote the song along with Tony Thorpe, ex Rubettes and himself a top player. Think they were both surprised at the success of the song. Watching an old TOTP recently, saw their band The Firm doing the follow up 'Arthur Daley he's alright'. Both dire hits IMO, but hope they made some money out of them.....
Don't encourage me, Pete! (I think it is the next thing I will do...) Incidentally, will your country band be gigging at all in early March? I may find myself near Hull again that week.
Hi Paul - yes, hopefully anyway. We've just started a weekly residency every Thursday at The Duke of Cumberland in Cottingham, which is maybe not far from where you're going IIRC? ( I don't do it when out with the ELO band though, so give me a shout if you're coming up? ) I also play at the same pub every Tuesday in an acoustic duo, usually a good night too. Hope to see you mate. (Also if you want to borrow my Tanglewood Elfin you're welcome to take it!)
Another Elfin popped up on eBay, collection only from Llanelli in Waleshire. http://www.ebay.co.u...uEAAOSwNnRYg0Ed Shame it is so far - I might have been tempted, just for the novelty factor!
Exactly same as mine (mentioned in post#11). Great little basses, and sound amazing. Get in touch with him Paul - see if you can persuade him to courier it. Will cost next to nowt!

Albums you think are great but are critically panned

Layla - Derek and the Dominos. Often gets panned on here for some reason , but one of my favourite albums. -
Hejira by Joni Mitchell. I can't stand her voice and that faux hipster poetry. I understand intellectually how revolutionary Jaco's playing was, but it does nothing for me. There! I've insulted two "icons" and feel no remorse.
Yup, with you on that one. Her voice just makes me run for the mute button. Completely understand her talent and influence, just not for me. -

Donald Fagen, The Nightfly. Think I'm the only muso ever who doesn't like this. Those irritating 'clever' songs played so perfectly with no soul/feel. Liked early Steely Dan stuff, but then it all ended up sounding like this. -
Great amps though, and a cracking deal. Hartke do seem to suffer pricewise s/h a bit, and can't understand why. Generally reliable and well made, lots of tone shaping and loud as f*ck, can't see what's no to like.I've had both versions of the 3500, and they were just spot on. For years myself and I suspect lots of others thought they were made in USA, which I believe only very early ones were?

Me like....a lot.

Just watched an old TOTP from 1983. Great song by The Maisonettes on, 'Heartache Avenue'. Sort of poppy motownish tune with a great middle section / descending bassline. Hadn't heard it in years.
I'd love to see an rb1001iii LED backlit power button, and a "gain" and "master" control knobs would increase its versatility.
Agree about the power button. Are n't the 'Level' and 'Woofer' controls serving the same function as gain and master though? Also using the 'Boost' control also helps find the right amount of grit.

Fender Precision Lyte bass guitar, in Frost Red (pearlescent really!) It was made in Japan in 1996/7, at the end of the run for this model. Typically it has chrome hardware, and says 'Made in the USA' on the neckplate! It is in excellent condition for a 20 year old bass, with just a few small marks but nothing nasty at all. Neck / frets are great too, and it plays really well with the 'Jazz' sized neck being very comfortable. The P/J pickups and the active tone controls give a wide variety of sounds. Combined with the very light weight (c.7lbs.) this makes the bass a great gigging instrument for pretty much any situation. Comes with a basic gig bag too. Straight sale only thanks as having a cull. £375. Think this is a good price for a quality Japanese bass in excellent condition. Am in Hessle, west of Hull, East Yorkshire. Collection or possible meet up only at the moment please, depending on where / when of course. Apologies for the sideways pic - why does that happen?!! More pics available on request - PM me your email. Full spec below from Fender website. Cheers. Then again, for a Beatles fan perhaps - http://www.musicrada...s-guitar-596839 25" scale too, might be okay.
Check Ebay for a Tanglewood Electric Elf, EB-18 - these are great little basses with 19.75 inch scale length, I bought one for my lad when he was 9. Even a regular short-scale bass will be 30" which is a long stretch for small hands.
+1 for these. I bought one for myself after sustaining a shoulder accident which meant I couldn't reach a long scale neck, or carry a full size bass for a few months. They are really just a mini-precision, and sound fantastic!! Perfect for what you need I reckon, and not stupid dear either - think mine was around £95 a few years ago, and have occasionally seen them s/h for around £50.

I actually prefer front mounted sockets on guitars. You can see what you're doing when plugging / unplugging, plus there's none of that uncertainty when placing the guitar on a stand and the jack makes it unsteady. Also maybe less likely to get knocked/damaged too.
