    C-Audio GB 202 Power amplifier. 2x200 watts @4 ohms. Very good condition overall, been in a rack case most of it's life. Well regarded British designed amp, suitable for many uses. There are a couple currently on ebay for £149 and £169, so this is a bargain! Prefer not to post, amp is in East Yorkshire near Hull.     My bass (P-Lyte) has one volume control for both pickups, and a blend control to balance them. Works a treat. I mainly use it for muting the bass between songs, but also to turn it down for quieter passages in some material, so it gets a lot of hammer. Bass still sounds best full on though

    Agree with the unplugged sound of acoustic basses - pretty useless for any sort of band activity. However, I do think they have a place when amplified. My Washburn AB20 does actually sound 'acoustic' when put into a small Bose PA with my duo. I use Elites bronzewound strings and they do help make it sound less 'electric bass' too I think. I also use a Countryman bass uke as well, for those 'uprighty' tones (runs for cover.................)

    I've had my Countryman bass uke for nearly a year now, love it! Plays (pretty much! ) in tune, sounds great and didn't cost an arm and a leg at £139. Can't see the Kala being worth £320 more TBH.     Depends on the asker really. I have a friend who if he plays my bass can deaden a new set of strings in minutes, as his hands seem to produce sweat that kills them almost instantly! Hence my reluctance to swap instruments with him.....He uses Elixirs on his guitars for that reason, but can still get through them pretty quickly. If someone comes up at a gig to talk basses, so long as they seem sober-ish and respectful then I let them have a go. Great to see the face of a young player when they hold/play an old Fender or Musicman for maybe the first time. I can still remember playing a Gibson 345 when I was about 14 that belonged to a mate's elder brother, life changing moment for me.

    I carry a Crate Powerblock - 2x75 watts stereo @ 4Ohms or 150 watts into 8 ohms mono. Doubles as a spare guitar amp, with just about enough for bass at a push and very portable / small. As a couple of posts have already mentioned, Behringer BD121 is a no-brainer too.

    Gallien Krueger 1001RB - slightly outside your budget by £25 at GAK, but worth every penny. S/h ones usually around the £350 mark too, and will match up with your cab nicely. Assuming it's an 8 ohm cab you'll still get around 460 watts of low end loveliness, along with 50w to power the horn should you want to go the bi-amp route. Great amps.

    Been using a GK 410 Neo for a long time now with my GK 1001RB head. Great cab, never missed a beat. FWIW I did try the 212 and definitely preferred the 410. I do like a nice round bottom though..... Haven't tried the MBE series, would like to compare as believe they use the same components as the Neo.

    Maybe get a wireless system from somewhere and have a wander round the venue so you can really hear what the audience is getting? Sound is such a subjective thing, and you have to be able to trust the guy on the desk to convey how you want your band to be heard. If all the band are in agreement as to what's required, then your tech guy either changes his ideas or you have to consider finding someone else who listens to what you require. Good luck.

    I remember yours coming up for sale, and was tempted then as it's such a minter. My two are okay but not as pristine. One is my main bass now, and the other it's spare. Seriously underrated basses, and one of the lightest well put together Fenders I've played. Hope you get sorted mate. Cheers Pete.

    Hey Oggy - It's possible, but I've seen so many with the USA plates over here, seems unlikely? Also they have n't tried to hide the MIJ part of the headstock transfer, so if that was their intention then they were n't trying very hard

    Okay, coming clean as a possible P.Lyte anorak - I have had a fair few of these. Currently got 2 of the exact same model / year etc. Have seen a fair few Lytes with the 'USA' neck plate, and always assumed that (as it was towards the end of the run) Fender were just using up parts and these curved edge plates were hanging around in the parts bin from other models? Cracking basses IMHO. These chrome parts models are for me the best, as the earlier ones with gold plated parts were notorious for tarnishing very quickly. Also the s/b ones seem to be the most durable finish too, with some of the other pearl colours (white / red / grey / fotoflame etc) being very easy to ding. Love mine - lightweight full scale bass capable of many tones with the PJ pickup arrangement. GLWTS, cheers. Pete.

    If it's like my Snark tuner, it copes with 4 string tuning just fine, as well as my bass uke. Also often gets nicked by the cellists in my band.....
