Blimey, crazy pricing if correct. Someone I know has one for sale, and it came via Amazon for a silly price, so could be right. Will try to find out more details. Cheers.

Was just wondering if anyone here has any experience of APC basses, made I believe in Portugal. Particularly the electro acoustic models such as this one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/APC-BG-Luthier-MX-CW/dp/B00VEAUNYI/ref=sr_1_22?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1477480063&sr=1-22&keywords=APC+bass I'd never seen / heard of them until today. Cheers Pete.

73 is no age either. Always loved his version of 'Take good care of my baby', one of Carole King's best pop songs. RIP.

Chuck Berry hits 90 ... New Album for 2017
casapete replied to skankdelvar's topic in General Discussion
Seen Chuck many times. At one of the London Jazz and Blues Festivals at Ally Pally in the 70's, I was fortunate to be stageside. 2 mins before he was due onstage, he arrived with his guitar case in one hand, briefcase (presumably containing the fee) and mac in the other. As he was announced, the band started playing and he took the Gibson 355 out of the case, slung it on and walked onstage. Started playing, despite the guitar being rather out of tune. Took him a couple of songs to sort it, then went on to play a killer set. probably exactly 60 mins long as per the contract etc. Jimmy Marsala has been Chuck's bassist for over 40 years, and often directs the band as well as looking after Mr Berry. At one gig after they began a song, he had the unenviable task of sidling up to Chuck and inform him they'd already played that one a few minutes earlier. Chuck apologised to the audience and went straight into another song in an unrelated key, leaving the pick up band floundering. Happens a lot apparently. I love the Bruce Springsteen story from the 'Hail Hail Rock n Roll'. His band were waiting backstage to play for Chuck, with no word of setlist etc. Bruce finally plucks up the courage& knocks on his dressing room door. When he asked Chuck what songs they were going to be playing, the reply was - "Well son, tonight we'll be doing some Chuck Berry songs"!! We did a couple of Chuck's songs last night at my gig in his honour, and they went down a storm. -

Chuck Berry hits 90 ... New Album for 2017

Chuck has n't been truly on form live for quite a while now IMO, but still keeps going. ( Not the only veteran performer who should perhaps contemplate retirement either ,by a long chalk.) As Bruce Springsteen recently remarked though - the most important writer of the rock n roll generation. -

C-Audio GB 202 Power amplifier. 2x200 watts @4 ohms. Very good condition overall, been in a rack case most of it's life. Well regarded British designed amp, suitable for many uses. There are a couple currently on ebay for £149 and £169, so this is a bargain! Prefer not to post, amp is in East Yorkshire near Hull. I do get around a bit with my band though, so meet up in near future possible at Newcastle, Dorking, York, Penistone, Stoke, Southport or Edinburgh!! Cheers, Pete. Hopefully pics here! - http://s1086.photobu...2?sort=3&page=1 Some tech stuff here for the whole GB range. Any Motown classic tunes really, but for me it's either the Four Tops "I'm in a different world" or the Jackson 5's "I want you back". These are just today's choices though........

Just bought an amp from Will. Top fella, quick and easy transaction. Cheers Will, all the best mate. Pete.

My bass (P-Lyte) has one volume control for both pickups, and a blend control to balance them. Works a treat. I mainly use it for muting the bass between songs, but also to turn it down for quieter passages in some material, so it gets a lot of hammer. Bass still sounds best full on though

For a cheap solution the Fender ABY is pretty good. No bells and whistles but does the job just fine for me. https://www.andertons.co.uk/p/0234506000/footswitches/fender-2-switch-aby-switcher-pedal-in-red?LGWCODE=0234506000;56375;6335&gclid=COfRu9eo0c8CFWYo0wodgmoPdg

Agree with the unplugged sound of acoustic basses - pretty useless for any sort of band activity. However, I do think they have a place when amplified. My Washburn AB20 does actually sound 'acoustic' when put into a small Bose PA with my duo. I use Elites bronzewound strings and they do help make it sound less 'electric bass' too I think. I also use a Countryman bass uke as well, for those 'uprighty' tones (runs for cover.................)

Ashbury Bass Ukulele - anyone got any experience with them?
casapete replied to Mornats's topic in Other Instruments
I've had my Countryman bass uke for nearly a year now, love it! Plays (pretty much! ) in tune, sounds great and didn't cost an arm and a leg at £139. Can't see the Kala being worth £320 more TBH. Great way of dipping your toe in the uke ocean. http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Countryman_U_bass.html -
Well as a one trick pony Stingray player I must have only one option surely? Pick, fingers, slap, thumb, near the neck, near the bridge, palm muted, then all those with the treble up or down, not swapping and changing your gear every five minutes for the latest fad bass means you can get the tone you want without even listening to it, I know exactly how far to turn the treble pot when swapping between pick and fingers for example.
This ^^^^. One bass, plenty of options.

Do you let other people play your bass(es) ?
casapete replied to josie's topic in General Discussion
Depends on the asker really. I have a friend who if he plays my bass can deaden a new set of strings in minutes, as his hands seem to produce sweat that kills them almost instantly! Hence my reluctance to swap instruments with him.....He uses Elixirs on his guitars for that reason, but can still get through them pretty quickly. If someone comes up at a gig to talk basses, so long as they seem sober-ish and respectful then I let them have a go. Great to see the face of a young player when they hold/play an old Fender or Musicman for maybe the first time. I can still remember playing a Gibson 345 when I was about 14 that belonged to a mate's elder brother, life changing moment for me. -
I carry a Crate Powerblock - 2x75 watts stereo @ 4Ohms or 150 watts into 8 ohms mono. Doubles as a spare guitar amp, with just about enough for bass at a push and very portable / small. As a couple of posts have already mentioned, Behringer BD121 is a no-brainer too.

For anyone interested, Waterstones are doing the new Springsteen autobiography 'Born to Run' for half price - it's currently £10. Had some good reviews already, just bought mine. Cheers, Pete.
-
Gallien Krueger 1001RB - slightly outside your budget by £25 at GAK, but worth every penny. S/h ones usually around the £350 mark too, and will match up with your cab nicely. Assuming it's an 8 ohm cab you'll still get around 460 watts of low end loveliness, along with 50w to power the horn should you want to go the bi-amp route. Great amps.

Despite probably being the first to order, mine still 'en route'..........

Been using a GK 410 Neo for a long time now with my GK 1001RB head. Great cab, never missed a beat. FWIW I did try the 212 and definitely preferred the 410. I do like a nice round bottom though..... Haven't tried the MBE series, would like to compare as believe they use the same components as the Neo.
