1.
Here's another live version of Suspicious Minds - this is the one that's on "Elvis Live". I love how high the bass is in the mix and how The Scheff goes from laying back a bit to just ripping away and then back again and then... The way it sort of changes gear at 2:40 gives me goose bumps. The high register phrases at 3.15 - 3.45 are just glorious
Great stuff - love the trumpets as well !
2. Probably the Peavey for me - had both and preferred the sound, although as stated a PITA to move around. Also come in 4 and 8 ohm versions, so check which it is if you go for it. If you don't like it, you'll probably be able to move it on for £100 and go for the Hartke!
3.
Absolute bargain of the century. Mine is amazing, and would love another but that'd be crazy. Someone will get a bargain!
+1 - superb tone machine for a great price.
4. Seen this guy advertised recently in York doing set ups, repairs and amp mods etc - contact "][email protected] Think he has a Facebook page too. (No knowledge / recommendations personally, just thought it may be worth a look?)
5.
Ernie Ball Slinkies - the lightest gauge. D'Addarios are ok too if that's all there is. DRs are nice but a bit pricey (I've never found that expensive strings last longer than cheaper ones). The only strings (that I have tried) that I can't stand are Rotosound. They appear to use the same wire you put in band-saws
I thought same regarding Rotosound, then I tried their 'Rotos' - cheaper and better! (Also identical to Legacy nickels at £7.95 a set.) Give them a try, you may be pleasantly surprised.
6. If you're quick (by midnight 29th Feb) you can get 10% discount at Strings Direct - enter discount code STRINGS at the checkout. I got this in an email from them, guess it works for any customers. Cheers,Pete.
7. D'Addario XLs on my Stingrays and Danelectro. Legacy nickels (Rotos repackaged) on others - £7.95 a set from Strings Direct, great strings! Also 10 % discount at Strings Direct until 29th Feb - just enter discount code STRINGS at checkout.
8. Links great, cheers.

Edit - link does n't work, but go to YEP site and search for 'Music Ground' - two reports there, makes for interesting reading.
10.
That performance blew me away, from a technical level for the bass and arrangement level on everything else. It was just beautifully done!
Me too. Superb playing, and in the context of the song too. And groovy as f*ck! Whole band were playing IMO - no way to end with a big rall like that and get it right!
11. Don't know about anything wrong with modern bassists, there seem to be plenty of ace players around - for example, what about the bass player with Bruno Mars (Jamareo Artis) ? Saw him on the Brits last night - best playing I've seen for ages, with a great band too. (And he danced whilst doing it !) Also caught Vintage Trouble live a few weeks ago, with superb playing from Rick Barrio Dill.
12. Remember doing a function at a hotel once (near Manchester I think) where we drove the van into the venue directly behind the stage, then just pulled a curtain across the back to cover it up! Very quick pack up ensued, although the gig had a kind of diesel smell all evening......... Personal best was around 5 mins from cafe bar gig near my house after using house PA. Washburn acoustic bass into gig bag and off.
13. Sold Marcell my Markbass amp yesterday. Pleasure to deal with, good communication and knows his stuff. Thanks!

Just met up with Will to do a swap with our rack cases. Great guy to deal with, answered all my PM's etc and turned up bang on time! Good to meet you Will, hope to do business again sometime.
15. Great bass, great price. No better value at the moment I reckon - someone get it bought !
16. The bass in question is a generic far eastern copy of a MM Stingray. Originally Korean, most (if not all?) of their output (like so many others) is now made in China. Looks okay to me, and as long as you're not expecting it to sound exactly like a USA Stingray (!), it looks like it may be worth a punt for a hundred quid. If you don't like it you should n't lose much selling it on. Good colour / pickguard combo too............
17. Is this still for sale?. Cheers.
18. Thanks for your comments...............
19. Anyone know how much one of these is worth? It's a copy of Gibson's Melody Maker in 3 tone sunburst / 2 pickups, although with un-Gibson like bolt on neck. Think they were made in Japan in the late 70's. Can't find any pics I'm afraid at the moment. Any help appreciated, cheers.
20. Hi - I'm another one! Been in bands for most of my life, still having a go! Regarding double basses, there's one for sale on Leeds Gumtree at the moment for £350 - don't know if its much cop, but maybe worth looking at? Also www.thomann.de have some inexpensive dbs starting around the £375 mark new. Good luck in your search, and welcome! Pete.
21. I used to play this song on my Stingray - back treble off and whack the mid and bass up a touch and you have a Gibson EB3 ish tone. That's why I love Stingrays, so versatile and useful.
22. I still have a Bell's catalogue from the late 60's/early 70's. Not much bass action contained, but I spent many happy hours pouring over Marshall & Wem guitar amps, along with all the other stuff. Regarding the Grimshaw LP, saw a clip recently of Status Quo on Top of the Pops in 1968 doing 'Pictures of matchstick men' with Francis Rossi playing one! I had a similar LP copy in the early 70's, maybe same factory etc.
23. I get to play in a lot of theatres, and our guitarist knows if there is a loop as soon as he plugs his Telecaster in! Never had a problem getting it turned off though.
