1. I do this sometimes in my duo - acoustic guitar and acoustic bass! The song works well like this, so don't worry.
2. I would agree - try it with your electric first and see how it fits in. However, for acoustic type gigs I always use my Washburn AB20. Fitted with bronzewound strings, it has a great tone for complementing the other instruments, and yet is very controllable. I think it sounds fine (I plug it directly into the PA) , and it gets favourable comments from musos/punters too. They can be had for around £200 s/h, and well worth the dosh IMO. Also worth a look in the same price bracket is the Takamine EG512C, which again is a nice bass for the money.
3. +1 to the above. I use a GK 1001RB and usually no probs with hum/hiss. However, I recently borrowed a GK Neo212 cab from a mate, and noticed some hissing. The horn unit appeared very efficient, so I just knocked it down (or was it 'off!') and no probs. Guess I'm just used to the less efficient horn in my own cab, but TBH even with the GK cab horn turned up I don't think the hiss was that noticeable when playing at stage volumes.
4. Sunshine of your Love - Cream I wish - Stevie Thriller - MJ Good times - Chic etc etc....
5.
Being picky, the bridge itself isn't the ashtray, that's the optional cover which goes over the bridge to stop any knarled hands & such, AFAIK it's only some of the CS guitars that come with them fitted now, though you can pick one up generally easily on Ebay or a Fender dealer. Only downside is that you won't then be able to pick over the pickup. I've found that the only time it can get painful is if you do a lot of right hand muting, palm muting, then a saddle screw on the E can get a bit sore into the heel of your hand; I could of course remove it & file it a bit shorter; but I've never got a round tuit.
This.
6. I fancy a white one. Look good with a black plate, matches the headstock etc. Great basses, enjoy!
7. I've just got the plastic pair of cabs. The remaining pair are still for sale I believe - they are Peavey Eurosys 2 model, which I think are 200 watts / 8 ohms, with a 12 " driver + tweeter per cab. They seem in nice nick, and are quite light too. Jim's a good feller, so buy with confidence! Cheers.
8. According to Wiki, the Detroit Spinners also sang on the original version of Elton Johns 'Are you ready for love', ( which is my favourite EJ track too) . Another great bass line / Thom Bell production.
9.
I used to be in a group called the Detroit Spanners!
I remember them Bob, great name!
10. Steve Wright just player 'Ghetto Child' by the Detroit Spinners. Had forgotten what a great bassline! Lots of their other stuff was equally groovy too - such as 'I'll be around' and 'Could it be I'm falling in love. Great Philly soul.
11. Bump!
12.
I've found these good value for money, they seem to be made in the same place as Rotosound (which might not be a good thing considering some of the comments above), and some people have reported finding Rotosound QC cards in them. http://www.stringsdi...s_guitar/legacy I tend to buy quite bright roundwounds and leave them on for 4-6 months before replacing and they don't seem to have died any faster that the DRs I put on another bass at the same time, or previous sets of Rotosounds or D'Addarios.
+ 1 for Legacy strings. £7.95 a set and great value for money. Rotosound 'Rotos' rebranded. Never liked Rotosounds until I tried the Rotos (nickel), so these are around £5/£6 cheaper - no brainer really. Had mine on a couple of months and still fine.
13. Gone!
14. Saw VT last Friday in Lincoln. Absolutely superb band, all great players. Massive P-bass tones from Rick Barrio Dill. If you get chance to see them am sure you won't be disappointed.
15. Great 'proper' amp type bump!
16.
What's going on by Marvin Gaye or Bernadette by the Four Tops...
Beat me to it. I was made to love her - Stevie W.
17. And probably a 1 in 5 chance of getting a good Precision around that time too......... (runs for cover)
18. I got a DVD with a guitar mag - 'Warwick Live 2011-Fuss on the buss'. It features T.M., Bootsy and many more. Runs for around 25 mins. Yours for nowt - just send me your address and will mail it to you. Cheers.
19. PM also sent!
20.
Watched her on Jools last night as part of the 2011 'best of'. Great voice, quirky girl, like it. Adele has a totally stunning voice. I really like her tracks but totally over played which will ruin it....along with X Factor contestants thinking they have a voice like her. Another band on called The Civil Wars....great duo...acoustic folky/blues...like it a lot. Both had really good gritty voices.
I remember seeing Jessie on Later doing 'Pricetag', thought it was brilliant. Great song/singer/performance. How many of todays artists would go on national TV with just an acoustic guitar accompanying them, with nowhere to hide?
21. +1 on the QSC stuff. I've used the PLX range for years with absolutely no problems, and they're not heavy either. Pretty sure they all bridge into 8 ohms if you want as well.
22. Best budget strings I've used are Legacy - £7.95 a set from Strings Direct. Apparently they are rebranded Rotosound Roto bass nicklewounds (usually retail around £14 mark). I don't normally like Rotos, but these are great quality and value for money. I started using them on my spare bass but now use them on my main one too. They last a good while, and keep their tone well.
23. Generally 6m for me - play a lot of theatres with big stages, so need the length(...!!!) However, don't like to be too far from my gear, so this seems to define things nicely.
24. Stones - Get your ya ya 's out. Notable mentions - Springsteen - Live 75-85 Stevie Wonder - Natural Wonder (often overlooked 1995 double cd) Band - Last Waltz BB King - Live at the Regal
