1. Recently got an amp from John. Top fella, pleasure doing business with you sir!
2. Bassist experienced in function /wedding /corporate work available to dep. Good gear, reliable and presentable etc, backing vocals, transport. Great busker and know lots of stuff from 50's to current. Some reading ability too. If you need a night off from your band give me a shout! Cheers, Pete.
3.
Dunlop 65 Lemon Oil.
Thats the one I have. Don't overuse it though - I usually do mine a 2/3 times a year and seems fine. If used too often it can actually cause problems (wood softening, loosen frets etc). Its not really a cleaner, more of a way of preventing rosewood boards from drying out I believe.
4. Hi Rich - what a decision to have to make. I have both of these amps and would be hard pressed which one had to go mate. Hope it works out ok - bump for a couple of superb amps!
5. Great stuff. All those people in the late 70's who hated disco did n't know what they were missing...........
6. Ended up using a Yamaha 1x15+horn PA cab in a rehearsal studio last night, sounded fine! Can't see the problem myself- if it sounds okay, then it is.....
7. 129 so far this year, will be around 145 by end of the year, which is a little down on 2009. (These are a combination of 3 setups I'm in though - 7 piece function band, 4 piece country rock band and acoustic duo, along with some dep stuff here and there.) Next year not looking great as of yet though, with mainly pub gigs taking a bashing due to people not going out as much etc.. Thank God people still want to get married!!
8. My experience of 70's Fender basses is that the ones made earlier in the decade seemed a lot better than those later on. Although not faring as badly as some of their guitar output ( poor QC, heavy bodies etc) I generally feel that the late 70's was a poor time for Fender, and that by the 80's and the rebirth of the company they had manged to address most of these issues. Makes me laugh when I see late 70's Strats etc going for £2000+, when you could get a superb Custom Shop instrument for that price. Aah, the lure of 'vintage' eh?....
9. I use a K&M light, with 2 bulbs - they also do a smaller model with one 25 watt bulb. Think Amazon have them.
10.
Do your ass speakers retain any residual smell?
Only when our singer hits bum notes...........
11. Just in case you did n't know, ASS were a well respected speaker cab manufacturer, based in Southend area. They also designed cabs for Ashdown, used by U2 and John Entwhistle. geeky bump!
12. Just sold Tom a power amp. Despite Parcelfarce's best attempt to trash the package, Tom remained a cool bloke throughout! Easy transaction and great communications etc. Top feller, highly recommended.
13. My function band are currently downsizing their PA and getting a smaller van etc. We are therefore selling our ASS speakers, which we've had from new (ordered from ASS in Southend 4 years ago). All components are quality B&C units, the cabs being very strong ply construction. The rig consists of a pair of bass bins and a pair of mid/horn cabs, over 3k in total. The bins each contain 2x18" drivers (rated at 500 watts each), and have 4 large castors on the back. The top cabs each contain a 1x15" driver and a 1.5" compression driver for the horn, rated at 120 watts. (Last December a DJ who was sharing our gear managed to blow the horn drivers, so these were replaced then with the correct units.) All other components are original. The cabs have just been given a sprucing up with proper speaker paint so look fine. We've used these 3 way with a DBX Driverack unit and QSC power amps, and its all been great. Superb sounding rig, with plenty of bottom end!! Sad to see them go,but its all a bit too much for our needs now. TBH we've not used the bass bins that much this last year, just utilising the tops for vocals&brass on most gigs. As we're getting a smaller van, these will now be surplus to our requirements NOW SOLD (to someone not from BC) The PA is currently in Hull, East Yorkshire. Possible help with delivery depending on where etc., but would have to be soon as our van is being sold! Cheers. (Please note that in the pic there are 2 pairs of top cabs - the sale is for one pair of top cabs and one pair of bass bins. However, the other pair of tops pictured could also be up for sale if you're interested.)
14.
Everything sounds great in your bedroom or music shop. You need to get it into a musical situation to really assess it. Sometimes that means buying and road testing for a few months. This is one of the great things about basschat - the ability to have a dabble and move it on !
Thats exactly it, for me anyway. Would n't have got a Mark Bass head or Barefaced cab if it had n't been on here. Has cured me of amp GAS for at least...ooh...a month?!!
15. As you rightly point out, your amp will give its full output if using a 4ohm load from your speakers. So, you could a) Upgrade the Trace cab - couple of 8 ohm Eminence Beta 10's should cost you around £120 the pair, giving you a 500 watt 4ohm cab. b ) Use the 2x10 as it is if you can ,and help it along by getting another 8 ohm cab (1x15"?) to run with it. c) Just get a newer more efficient cab - plenty on here s/h. A Peavey 1x15 4 ohm Black Widow cab would work fine.(less than £100?) You will probably be able to sell your Trace cab on here for something - plenty of TE anoraks still around! d) Buy another set up - again s/h on here. If you buy wisely you should be able to recoup a good amount of your outlay should you wish to re-sell if the gig does n't last. Good luck!
16. Acoustic are great amps, louder than their rating too! I had a 120 and it was a fine bit of kit. The 220 should be enough to gig with with a decent 4 ohm cab.
17.
There's something wrong on Travelling Alone, the bass and guitar are out of whack somewhere. It should sound like this ... Pretty good version of Crossroads, compared to some he's done. And at least he's playing Gibsons.
To me it sounded like EC was hitting the open top string, which was clashing a bit somewhere. Song is in A, he was capoed on 2nd fret and playing in open G, which meant the dodgy open string was a 6th (F#) which was interfering with the 7th feel of the song somewhat? And also the raised 6th (F) appearing in the riff didn't help either? ( Cluster of F/F#/G's etc.) This is not apparent in the studio recording. Or am I just talking bol*ocks ? (again...!!) Nice Les Paul though!
18. As a lifelong EC fan I must admit the first number was n't great........ Anyone got the album yet, any good?
19. 3 heads 5 cabs Covers all eventualities (so far.....)
20. Are all the MB range built in the USA or have GK got into Far East production?
21. Just sold a Crown XS500, which was a great amp. Reckoned to run 750w a side @2 ohms but we never did. Personally would rather get a bigger output amp @ 4 ohms than run anything at 2 ohms if at all possible. Peavey have in the past often claimed 2 ohm operation on a lot of their stuff, but am sure it would be happier / last longer etc running at 4 ohms. Just my sixpennorth....
22. Casapete If its not for a headless? They'll be room for my bass and my sandwiches!
23.
Hi, I've got a standard Status branded Hiscox Liteflite bass flight case - pretty much no use to me as it won't cater for any of my left handed basses (p j etc). It's used but in perfect working order. Quite happy to swap for similar Hiscox case (that would cater for a LH bass), a 2xbass gig bag or make me an offer ! Ta.
Hi - am interested in a case for my Stingray. Is yours just a regular Hiscox Liteflite with Status branding, or is it specially designed for just Status basses? Any pics? Would you post? Cheers!
