Not great for heavy basses - more of a Strat / tele guitar strap methinks.

Entire PA went down at a prestigous gig at Grosvenor House in London - culprit was the fog machine blowing its stuff straight into the power amps. Had to wait for the amps to reset before continuing. In my early band days I was playing guit*r through a Vox AC30 at a WM Club in Knaresborough when it actually caught fire along with the curtain at the back of the stage - audience thought it was pyros!

FWIW, my take on things- Great - Cee Lo Green, Plan B, Ruby Turner, Rumer, Bellowhead, Secret Sisters and the JH Big Band as usual. Average - Roger Daltrey, Toots, Kylie (looking great as usual though!) Err... - Wanda Jackson, Alison Moyet, Vampire Weekend, Stephen K Amos.... All in all still a great show IMO, plenty of variety etc. Must admit I've always thought Gilson's drumming fits in fine with the JH band, and he plays like someone who listens to whats needed to me. Always an easy target, but still the best place (IMO of course) for live music on mainstream telly. Happy New year.

Peavey TVX210 - fairly portable (65lbs), 4 ohms and sound pretty good. Oh yeah and cheap too - circa £199 new, s/h £100 or less.

Mine is on (so far). Am in West Yorkshire tomorrow though, so may be a tough one towards the Pennines. We've had it probably the worst over the last few weeks here in East Yorkshire, and have n't missed a gig yet! Been to London and the N.East and made it to them all. (Ironically my local pub gig 5 miles away cancelled us though!) Allow loads of time for travelling, take shovels & warm clothes and flasks etc, drive sensibly and plan your route according to BBC road/weather updates.

Mmmm.. I thought 'D' too, but sounds (to me anyway) like the guitarist plays the solos as if it's in 'G'??? When we play it we always do a big rall and finish on the 'D' though!

I stopped playing over 24 years ago for nearly a year during the period when my daughter was born, and really glad I did too. Actually quite enjoyed the break for 3-4 months, after that I was starting to get twitchy - staying in Saturday nights etc! Guess its in my blood and all that , been playing in bands now for nearly 40 years (I was 13 when I first started by the way!), and don't see myself stopping in the forseeable future - unless the amount of gigs dries up completely. Have a break, but never say never.......

Having broken my arm/shoulder a couple of years back, I know what you're going through. +1 for the Rees - tried one at a show a while ago and it felt great. Agreed with comments on Hohner B2A - nice n light but the neck that much further to your left makes it a bit of a stretch. (Guess this could be remedied with the Steinberger device which attaches to the neck strap button but they are rare as hens teeth.) Great to hear of a bit of Dano love too! My Dano Longhorn is really light & quite well balanced. Great for long gigs - only one sound really, but its a good un. Would recommend some good massage to help things along too - worked well for me. Good luck.

Ok, I'll be first in to say GK - the 800RB are great amps and fairly priced/plentiful on your side of the pond. The 700's are good too! Depends what you play&where really.

I sing BV's all the time, got a good ear for it just not a great voice! Occasional lead vocal duties when the situation demands it (like last Saturday night when I ended up doing 50% of the songs!), but just don't like the sound of my voice- its tonally 'flat' (and often pitch too!), which is ok for BV's but in isolation is pretty grim! When I first started bass found singing a bit odd, but doing it a lot makes it easier to get your hear round. Hardest is when there's a repetitive riff to play whilst phrasing BV's with the singer who's had a drink! Great stuff.

I'm a very average bassist, who can't show off / slap / solo to save my life. However, I can fit in with a band fairly easily, and have a good ear & ability to play whats needed in most situations. (If I can't then I don't do the gig!) I also sing BV's and the occasional lead vocals too, which helps no end I feel. As is often true with a lot of bassists, I'm okay as a mediator / voice of reason & common sense which this mad business often requires, so think people appreciate that too. Most of my gigs are fairly typical functions / weddings and pubs. My proudest moment was doing a gig at the Royal Albert Hall in 2000 (even though it was for a financial institution's big bash!). Am now in my early 50's, and just hope I can keep playing for a good while longer, although this bloody recession is currently doing it's best to prevent this. Cheers,Pete.

I think Roy is still relatively overlooked considering how much great music he's made - The Move released a lot of classic stuff, then he founded ELO before leaving to form Wizzard. Their 'Ball Park Incident' and 'See my baby jive' singles are classic 70's tunes. He also plays a staggering number of instruments, and is still touring with his band,playing all the hits. He's a top bloke too!
