Turned up last night to play at wedding in marquee (usual stuff for us) - and it was brilliant! Great crowd, free bar, lots of lovely women and our PA sounded good too! Also had a stand in trumpet player (John Dunn from Darlington - 'Johnny Dep!') who despite his lack of years (21 the bu*ger) did an excellent job. Best gig we've had in a while, wish they were all like this etc.............

Also make sure you know which recorded versions they want you to learn - with You Tube / Spotify etc there are so many versions of the same song avilable. You need a definitive copy of the material on cd to make sure you're all going for the same thing, and avoid the "Oh we do the 'Live version from 1979' argument.................

Great rig! Would expect the amp to fetch maybe up to £100, the 2x15 around the same too? Is the 2x10 powered ? (Quite rare these days ,not a clue to its worth though!)

Never (sadly?) done a gig that demanded the sound of 2 basses - my Stingray can be coaxed into quite a lot of different noises. As for a backup, have never taken more than 1 bass to a gig. Only time I wished I had was when the battery in my Precision Lyte gave up the ghost with no warning mid set - fortunately I carried a spare but the band had to do one song without me. Never broken a bass string in 30 years, but again always carry spares - also have spare leads/strap etc. Of course I'll probably now break a string and have my bass die on me tonight!

Although I love GK amps, this one is not getting used (as its my 'spare' and my other two never let me down!) Am also looking to get a 'small' rig together for gigs where I can get away with less kit / level etc. so would be interested in a trade/swap for a Little Mark head as well as just a straight cash sale. I've had this amp for around 3 years, and it's never missed a beat. Absolutely 100% reliable and lived in a strong rack from new. Been used in my function band, never abused at all so in excellent condition. Been regularly serviced and PAT tested too. Sounds fabulous with my 4x10 and/or 1x15 cabs - warm, loud and with the boost wound up can get a bit 'growly' too if thats your thing. Basic spec - 480 watts @ 4 ohms 320 watts @ 8 ohms 50 watts @ 8 ohms (horn amp) 4 band active eq, boost control, contour and presence controls, 4/5 string voicing, XLR DI out with pre/post switching, send/return/tuner out jacks, Speakon and jack speaker outputs, mute switch. Weighs around 17 lbs & takes 2U rack space. Quality USA made amplifier. NOW SOLD Would prefer cash on collection / meet up / possible delivery (obviously depending on where etc.) I'm in East Yorkshire, but do travel around a fair bit ( mainly Yorkshire / Midlands but am in Surrey via M11 end of August) If you need any more pics then let me know. Cheers Pete.

I love my Danelectro Longhorn - 30" short scale, sounds great and cheap n cheerful too! Not the most robust bass out there but certainly one of the best.

I got mine through www.musicguard.co.uk Got my Stingray insured for £1200 and included was £1m public liability for a year - had to have it for a recent gig etc. Dont know if thats the best deal around, but worth a look, cheers.
MM Sterling.
+1 - the Sterling gives you all of the MM goodness with a thin 'jazz' profile neck,so the transition from the Ibanez should be a lot easier.

SVT 3 Pro's seem to usually go for around £350 / £400 in good nick (assuming yours is the USA version) As for the cab, 8x8's are a bit of a rarity, so will depend on how much somebody wants it really (and condition of course). Reckon upwards of £250 - anyone else any ideas?
-
The 3500's are great amps. I had one at the same time as an Ampeg SVT3Pro, and actually preferred the Hartke - tonally just as good and seemed a lot louder too. Ultra reliable and easy to use, I love 'em. (Personally did n't find mine too heavy either!) The LH series is on my list of stuff to try after hearing the recommendations on here. Was n't such a big fan of the cabinets (Transporter series 4x10) but still great value for money - definitely the best in the price range.
Not the worst bass ever, but most uninspiring was a 1996 anniversary edition of a Fender Precision Lyte. Beautiful to look at, well balanced and great weight - zero tone! I'd love the bass back just so I could do something about it!
I had one of those, same experience. Yet the Lyte I had before that was fantsatic-strange.

A mid 70's Fender Precision - weighed a ton, thick horrible finish and dull tone even with new strings. Must admit I've never found anything by Fender (basses and guitars) from that period to be much cop. Was cheap though, and made a small profit when I part ex'd it for a pre EB Stingray - which was everything the Fender was n't.

Dep needed, dad rock band, Cardiff, || Sorted||

Shame I'm out on the 21st, as know every bloody song! (And I hate Clarkson too - Maybe I ought to advertise myself as the 'Dad Rock Dep'?) -
My Musicman non identical twins. Actually have an elder brother Ray too! Until recently had a pair of Dano Longhorns, although sadly one has now left home.

I use one for playing trad jazz - through a Pignose 30 battery amp! Sounds amazingly okay for what it is. In fact when I broke my arm a couple of years ago this was the first bass I used when getting back into playing, due to the extremely light weight which was kinder to my shoulder until I could cope with my Stingray. Used through a GK amp, it was fine, sort of precision-y. The small dimensions can prove a bit of a challenge, but whats not to like?!!
I have one knocking around here somewhere - I'll dig it out if I remember and measure. Wouldn't want to use it on a bass with too much weight to it though... AHA! Amazed myself and found it. It adjusts from 56" to 44". Mine's not got the contrasting stitching, but I've had it for a while so maybe they've changed them a bit. They're suede lined on the shoulder side, and - asd the website says - padded. Mine's currently sat doing nowt, if you're interested?
I may be! Let me know how much you're looking for - cheers Pete. -
Jerry Donahue at Leeds Bradford Guitar Show
casapete replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the heads up. Its usually an ok event anyway, with a few basses present at the last one. Having Jerry there will take it up a notch for sure. -
Did a small gig yesterday, ended up using the piano players Roland KC combo. Was fantastic for bass - used my 2 eq Stingray and it sounded great! Anyone else tried them?
-
I always avoided Rotos UNTIL I was recommended a set of RB40's (as the shop was out of my usual D'Addarios.) These are nickel on steel roundwounds with no silk windings. Sound and feel great, and excellent value too (around the £14 mark) Lasted well on my Ray, certainly worth a try - dont feel like usual Rotos at all.
-
Around £150 / £200 for the Hohner, (possibly a bit more as red ones not as common as black) Maybe more on ebay - they seem to fluctuate in price a lot.

Are you sure your 410HLF is 4 ohms, and your other 1x15 cab is 4 also? If thats the case then the amp will be working into 2 ohms, which unfortunately it is n't designed to do. Running it this way would result in a massive jump in output BUT!! the Ampeg may work for a while but ultimately will overheat and cause some damage to both itself and maybe your cabs too. The amp will only run into speakers totalling 4 or 8 ohms. (Using two 4 ohm cabs means its a 2 ohm total load on your amp). Even some amps that state they will run down to 2 ohms often are n't happy at being used this way (Peavey etc), so please take care! I had an SVT3 Pro and found it a touch lacking in output even with 450 watts into its minimum 4 ohm load - perhaps you'd be best off (if you like the Ampeg sound) finding a more efficient (louder!) 4 ohm cab - the Ampeg 6x10 may be worth a look or one of the many other cabs available. Hope this helps, cheers.
