Bit of info available at www.carlsbro.com which is a forum for Carlsbro fans. I had the 600 watt head, and it was a fine bit of kit. They were after the Trace Elliot market with the Delta range, but somehow it didn't happen
Try something with an EV speaker in it or, better still, check out a Barefaced Compact.
+1 If you get a Compact you'll never use the internal speaker on your combo again though, so be prepared!

Some (older?) Peavey amps were prone to the clip light activating a lot. The built in compressor (DDT?) would then 'squash' the sound a bit too. Mate of mine had this facility removed by an amp tech, and his sound improved immediately. On some of the Peavey stuff (Mk111 heads etc) there was a push button to defeat this-useful.
I assume the C110 300 combo is the 1x10 300w combo... I'm aware of the fact that the combo in question got good reviews when it was released but tbh it is still a single 10" speaker and unless you are using full PA support I'd look at getting a greater speaker displacement if it is going to be projecting your sound without PA. Just my opinion!
+1 Try to go for a 1x15 or 2x10 combo if you can-will save you upgrading when the drummer gets angry............

HH amps first appeared in the early 1970's, and I believe your amp was a mid 1980's model. Still manufacturing today but now owned by Laney. Was in a band with a guitarist who used an HH IC100 head - loud as hell, sounded great for a transistor design too. (Much HH loveliness available on ebay for not a lotta dough, but don't tell anyone!)
Interesting, I think that what is lost on you in motown is very similar to what you try to point out to others in your various assertions regarding the artistry of many jazz performers. It seems to me that you possibly don't have a connection with what motown is for, eg it feels good, it's not taxing, it's light natured, it's for the lightness of spirit emanating from the need to shed the troubles of the working week and what it meant to be black in America at that time, it clings to Africa in that the players let down their hair and invite the listener in to a feel good half hour or so, and join in with a holler or a shuffle. I can see that compositionally some of the material is not substantially artistically challenging but would it fulfill the same role if it were? I doubt it... and surely any attempt for it to be that would miss the point. One of it's greatest attributes is that it's done by people who didn't have to think hard about what they are doing, because it's a very natural art form, or furrow their collective brow in trying to eke out the quintessential last drop of pained artistry from every note, they simply did what they did, and millions couldn't resist the urge to get to the dance floor and suspend the drudgery of the working week, the racism, the poverty. Some of history's great players went through the motown studios and their magic ingredient was how good it all felt. Thats what I reckon anyhow....
Was thinking for ages how to reply to this, and you've nailed it far more eloquently than I could have ever done - great!

Korg CA30. Nine quid new, fits in case and at that price can afford 2 or 3! Works fine too. Don't know about anyone else, but I always tune my Musicman after its been out of its case in the room where the gig is for say 30 mins. Can honestly say have never needed to retune it during a gig EVER, not even in the hottest sweatiest pub! Am I just lucky (or deaf?)

I have a fretted version - had it for years and love it! Not sure on value,I paid £295 for mine s/h some years ago which was probably a bit on the high side ,but as with most things the price(and quality?) seems to have fallen. Have you checked ebay out lately? Often a good place to get some idea of ball park value/desirability etc! If you want to send me a pic or two I might just be tempted to make you an offer! Cheers.

Good article in yesterdays Times magazine on JBJ, highlighting his charitable projects too. Seems like an ok fella to me........... And he uses the great guitarist Bobby Bandiera when they tour, on loan from Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. The man has taste.

I have a GK 700RB with a Loud 4x10 for main gigs. Then a vintage (80's) GK 800RB that I use with a Loud 1x15 for pub gigs etc. Also a 2x15 EV loaded cab that can be used with either setup when necessary! Still thinking of the going down the MarkBass route though, after all the glowing reports on here. Also looking at a Barefaced Compact cab when funds allow, after trying one on the demo run organized by Alex.

At the risk of being trounced on here for watching such rubbish, have a look at 'Strictly Come Dancing' They often use modern songs for waltzes and quicksteps,of which some work and some don't! At least it makes a change from all the usual stuff though. I've played these waltzes recently on gigs - Bartenders Blues - George Jones and James Taylor With you I'm born again - Billy Preston & Syreeta Are you lonesome tonight - Elvis Goodnight Irene - everybody!
Never had a Marshall amp myself, but the man's a true legend. Met him a couple of times and he's the most humble, unassuming guy you could meet.
+1 Met him when he came to open my pal's guitar shop, Antones's on Beverley Road in Hull. I brought down my little 18 watt valve Marshall combo from the 60's to show him, and he told me a lot of history about making it etc. Then he gave me his secretary's number and said if I ever wanted the amp serviced to give her a call and they would love to do it at their Milton Keynes HQ. He signed a couple of things for me too, a lovely man. Great to have such access to legendary figures in the music biz.

No set value, maybe £30/£40 region for the chassis speaker, bit more in a cab? There are a few Black Widow 15 inch speaker types (1501 / 1502 maybe?), one being for bass use the other more of a general use/PA thing I believe,so check out which one yours is before buying/selling. Having said that don't know if there's much difference between 'em. Warwickhunt has a pair of BW 1x15 PA cabs on sale here for £110, which I reckon is a bargain for good USA made gear. Cheers.
it looks like the sub is the way forward. I mean theres not much stopping me mod it too. E.g status-graphite neck and east preamp or similar....x
Dont think you'll need to update anything apart from the plate - try one and you'll see!

Rick Danko's bass on 'The Weight' in The Last Waltz
casapete replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Whilst I can see the talent in Flea, King always struck me as a pure technician. Nothing he's played has ever evoked the slightest emotion in me and on that basis he's never influenced my playing. Flea influenced me hugely when I really got stuck into playing bass but mostly from a technical angle, that is, I worked hard to play the notes and sound something like him, which after hours of repetitive practice was usually possible (playing in a Chilis covers band probably encouraged this ). Danko is a step further along the line toi my mind, the notes he played weren't too difficult to string together, but getting anywhere near the feeling and the groove he could develop is a completely different matter. I can play the notes for sure, it just doesn't sound like Danko playing them
+1 Bought the 'Last Waltz' boxed set on vinyl when first released, and played it to death. Great performances from so many artists, but The Band shine on all of them. Rick Danko so overlooked as a bassist, a great player. -
A second hand SUB will fit the bill very nicely methinks. They are superb basses in every way,and mine sounds identical to a Stingray. Some people actually prefer the black painted neck finish to the oiled one on the Ray - I like both! They seem to usually go for around the £350 mark, so whack a Ray plate on it and job done. Just sold my MM USA Sterling for £650. Was a beauty too, just didn't personally like the slimmer neck profile. There's a sunburst one on ebay at the moment for a buy it now price of £650 also, which I still think is a good price for such a well made and versatile bass. Have n't yet tried the new Sterling by MM model, but there's a couple of current threads discussing these.

I just love any drummer (and come to think of it,musician!) who can nail a straight groove that totally complements the song, without endlessly showing off their 'technique'. Amazing how many players who are technically proficient just don't know how to do this without ruining the whole song/drowning out the vocal etc etc. In my view, 'simple' is usually the best option, and has the effect of making occasional fills/accents all the more effective. Masters of this for me are:- Charlie Watts Max Weinberg (E Street Band) Steve Ferrone (AWB etc)
