first off, this is a question about guitar amps really (boo hiss ) but i trust this forum's opinions more than any guitar ones! i've just picked myself up a peavey delta blues for much cheapness, it's a wee cracker but a touch underpowered for gigs. i've got this crazy idea to pick up another one with the 15" speaker (mine's is the 2x10") and run them together. would this really make things 'louder' though? or just 'bigger'? i realise that we're going into discussions about what volume is etc but basically - would this boost how loud my guitar sounds on stage?
I have a mint Peavey Delta Blues 1x15 combo that I may be interested in selling. Complete with footswitch, manual and Peavey cover. PM me for pics? Cheers. Pete.

Try and listen to 'Please come home for Christmas'. Originally done by Charles Brown, but better known due to covers by Southside Johnny (on Home Alone 1 or 2 OST,cant remember which!), and also The Eagles and Bon Jovi. Easy bluesy 12:8 style tune, lots of scope for bluesy guitar break too!

My acoustic duo do loads of rock stuff, its just in the way you put it over and how adaptable you are as musicians to make the songs work. (I am fortunate to have an ace guitarist with me who can play virtually anything on his Taylor electro-acoustic though!) Our set list includes :- Another brick in the wall Living on a prayer Baby when you're gone Sweet Home Alabama Honky tonk Woman Have a nice day Losing my religion Purple haze Sweet child of mine Just try and capture the feel of the song and you'll be amazed at what works in an acoustic format - and the audience will think its great for having a go too! If you need to change anything (with us its often the key!) then make sure you keep the recognizable parts of the song if at all possible. Good luck!

Have a look at www.rees-electric-guitars.com There's a small bass on there that is full scale and mega light-tried one at a show and it sounded fine to these ears. Weighs around 6 lbs/Seymour Duncan pickup/very compact design yet 34" scale.
Its was a very embarrassing 4 mins for me. Plus we were using a dep drummer but the B&G loved it and i guess thats what counts. Amazing isnt it ;-)
'God only knows' is probably one of my top 5 favourite tunes too. Went to see Brian Wilson recently and it took his 11 piece band to do justice to it,so reckon you were doing well having a go! Great non-root bassline and wonderful chord progression. There's a great bit in a Brian Wilson On tour DVD where Neil Young is guesting and goes to Brian's trailer for a run through of the song. He really struggles with it too!
Depends on the song really..... oh and how good the band are of course..... Some songs are just so over produced that you couldn't do it..... We always offer the fist dance as part of our package, up to the bride and groom if they want to take up the offer.
Bet you don't get many takers for the fist dance...................

Most off the wall one we've had was probably 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls. Worked out fine on the day though! Worst one we did was many years ago when the orchestra had been availing themselves of the free champagne, and by the time we came to play the first dance the happy couple were late on to the dance floor because they had n't recognized our version of their tune!! oops..... I agree with previous post that it can be often best if the first dance is left to the DJ to play the original, especially if it's something very hard to reproduce live. 'God only knows' as mentioned above was probably a tough one to nail! Most requested with us are :- Have I told you lately that I love you Lets stay together My girl Amazed etc etc!
If I were you I'd be looking to buy second hand. I don't know were you're based, but there's a nice deal on an Ashdown Electric Blue in the for sale section - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=67505 For the money you've got to spend you can pick up Peavey TNT's or Ashdown Mag's fairly easily, both of which would be an improvement on the combos you're looking at.
+1 Your budget should just get you something decent second hand to meet your requirements. You should find something on here, and you can buy with confidence too. Good luck!
Damned right - mine was on here for a steal at £650 (and didnt go to a basschat person in the end to my dismay.) Was a near mint 2000 model in honey sunburst with case etc. So keep your eyes peeled and you may find a similar USA Sterling for not much more than a far eastern job, especially in these hard times during the run up to Christmas.
And as I speak there's a tidy Sterling on ebay, currently at £510 with 32 mins left....................
If you like a slimmer neck then the Musicman Sterling (or the SB14) will be right up your street. I have small paws and my Sterling gave me everything I wanted - the Musicman sound with a superbly playable neck. Sterlings (not the SB14s) come up for sale on a regular basis and some of them go for silly money - you might get lucky and find one in your price range.
Damned right - mine was on here for a steal at £650 (and didnt go to a basschat person in the end to my dismay.) Bit of info available at www.carlsbro.com which is a forum for Carlsbro fans. I had the 600 watt head, and it was a fine bit of kit. They were after the Trace Elliot market with the Delta range, but somehow it didn't happen
Try something with an EV speaker in it or, better still, check out a Barefaced Compact.
+1 If you get a Compact you'll never use the internal speaker on your combo again though, so be prepared!

Some (older?) Peavey amps were prone to the clip light activating a lot. The built in compressor (DDT?) would then 'squash' the sound a bit too. Mate of mine had this facility removed by an amp tech, and his sound improved immediately. On some of the Peavey stuff (Mk111 heads etc) there was a push button to defeat this-useful.
I assume the C110 300 combo is the 1x10 300w combo... I'm aware of the fact that the combo in question got good reviews when it was released but tbh it is still a single 10" speaker and unless you are using full PA support I'd look at getting a greater speaker displacement if it is going to be projecting your sound without PA. Just my opinion!
+1 Try to go for a 1x15 or 2x10 combo if you can-will save you upgrading when the drummer gets angry............

HH amps first appeared in the early 1970's, and I believe your amp was a mid 1980's model. Still manufacturing today but now owned by Laney. Was in a band with a guitarist who used an HH IC100 head - loud as hell, sounded great for a transistor design too. (Much HH loveliness available on ebay for not a lotta dough, but don't tell anyone!)
Interesting, I think that what is lost on you in motown is very similar to what you try to point out to others in your various assertions regarding the artistry of many jazz performers. It seems to me that you possibly don't have a connection with what motown is for, eg it feels good, it's not taxing, it's light natured, it's for the lightness of spirit emanating from the need to shed the troubles of the working week and what it meant to be black in America at that time, it clings to Africa in that the players let down their hair and invite the listener in to a feel good half hour or so, and join in with a holler or a shuffle. I can see that compositionally some of the material is not substantially artistically challenging but would it fulfill the same role if it were? I doubt it... and surely any attempt for it to be that would miss the point. One of it's greatest attributes is that it's done by people who didn't have to think hard about what they are doing, because it's a very natural art form, or furrow their collective brow in trying to eke out the quintessential last drop of pained artistry from every note, they simply did what they did, and millions couldn't resist the urge to get to the dance floor and suspend the drudgery of the working week, the racism, the poverty. Some of history's great players went through the motown studios and their magic ingredient was how good it all felt. Thats what I reckon anyhow....
Was thinking for ages how to reply to this, and you've nailed it far more eloquently than I could have ever done - great!

Korg CA30. Nine quid new, fits in case and at that price can afford 2 or 3! Works fine too. Don't know about anyone else, but I always tune my Musicman after its been out of its case in the room where the gig is for say 30 mins. Can honestly say have never needed to retune it during a gig EVER, not even in the hottest sweatiest pub! Am I just lucky (or deaf?)

I have a fretted version - had it for years and love it! Not sure on value,I paid £295 for mine s/h some years ago which was probably a bit on the high side ,but as with most things the price(and quality?) seems to have fallen. Have you checked ebay out lately? Often a good place to get some idea of ball park value/desirability etc! If you want to send me a pic or two I might just be tempted to make you an offer! Cheers.

Good article in yesterdays Times magazine on JBJ, highlighting his charitable projects too. Seems like an ok fella to me........... And he uses the great guitarist Bobby Bandiera when they tour, on loan from Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. The man has taste.

I have a GK 700RB with a Loud 4x10 for main gigs. Then a vintage (80's) GK 800RB that I use with a Loud 1x15 for pub gigs etc. Also a 2x15 EV loaded cab that can be used with either setup when necessary! Still thinking of the going down the MarkBass route though, after all the glowing reports on here. Also looking at a Barefaced Compact cab when funds allow, after trying one on the demo run organized by Alex.
