Average White Band in November.
-
That’s my experience of them too. I guess the trick is learning to appreciate how they don’t deteriorate from that sound for ages though. For me, the cost doesn’t justify the outlay so I’ll stick with my D’Addarios for now.

Like most other Fenders, they can vary a great deal. Generally speaking ( as with basses perhaps ) their more 50’s and maybe early 60’s inspired vintage-y stuff tend to have bigger necks. Their more ‘modern’ incarnations have slimmer necks , and demand seems to have led most manufacturers to do the same. With 6 string guitars I’m one of the relatively few people who like a large neck profile. I have a 59 Les Paul Junior that is nigh on perfect for me, as well as a ‘Fat neck’ 335, a 54 Strat reissue and a Baja Tele, the latter two having fantastic ‘V’ shaped necks. I find that the meatier necks are way more comfortable, and my hands aren’t overly big either! When I play a skinny necked guitar I struggle to get my hand comfortable. Horses for courses etc.

I saw SZ play with Mark Ronson’s band when they were promoting the ‘Version’ album. Great player and sound, didn’t overdo it and played for the song. ( Never got Jamiroquai though for some reason ).

I attend quite a few guitar shows, and would agree with the above. Basses seem very conspicuous by their absence, with usually only a few budget instruments for sale. Some of the stands selling spares do have bass stuff, but overall the shows are probably not for those who are solely looking for bass related items. The next show I’m going to is at Thirsk on 31st October. Only a small event, but it’s worth a look if you’re not far away. http://www.mojoguitarshows.co.uk

We played at Billingham Forum Theatre last night - a full house, great crowd and no fuel problems getting there! Happy days.

Great band, saw them a couple of years ago and were excellent. Enjoy!

On Sky Arts now, Chic Live in France 2013. Followed later by Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar festival 2019 at 17.50, and then The Story of Trojan Records at 21.00. (Some of these may have previously been shown.) -

That is a great song, and SN is okay on it. Should have left it there though rather than staying on with the band for some other wailing. 😆 -
I have the identical model. Love the sounds - acoustic piano and the Wurlitzer are my faves. Like you I only play it at home, but it’s a wonderful thing - the action is perfect for me, so realistic. Was considering buying a s/h acoustic piano but really glad I got this, shouldn’t ever need to upgrade ( especially with my limited keyboard skills).

I watched the Radiohead gig too, well for about 20 mins which was all I could manage. Let’s just say it’s not my kinda thing and I’ll stop there. -
Don’t think so Pete, unless it was before I joined in 2010/11? Some friends of mine did it a couple of years ago, said it was a good event (held in Helmsley.)

Agreed - Mike Campbell is one of my favourite guitar players. (could still have done without Stevie Nicks though). -
We’re doing Aylesbury Waterside Theatre on October 26th Lozz if that’s any good for you? Drop me a PM if you fancy going. Cheers, Pete.
-
Thanks Paul, very kind. Hope you’re well mate. Pete.

Yup, it’s ‘The ELO Experience’ Dave. I’ve been with them now for over ten years! Regarding gigs north of the border, we have Dundee and Edinburgh planned for March 2022. Drop me a PM a bit nearer the time if you’re interested mate. Cheers, Pete.

Cheltenham Hall last night. Fantastic venue although not the easiest for sound. It was a long day there and back from Yorkshire, but worth it!

I remember someone in a (loud) local band customising the guitarist's amplifier by repositioning the volume pot on the spline, so to make the maximum setting effectively '8' instead of '10'. Think it worked for a few gigs before he twigged. 😆
-
I’d agree, although the cost of getting one ( especially for a larger band) may prove to be cost prohibitive? Also would mean the lead singist being let loose on the controls...🤣

Anth bought a phone from me that I’d advertised on here. Absolute pleasure to deal with, replied to all my messages and paid promptly too. All the best Anth! Pete.

I have a ‘matching’ GK main rig - 1001RB into a Neo 4x10, and also use a GK MB800 ( or occasionally my lovely old GK 800RB ) into a gen 1 Barefaced Compact. ( I also have been known to use my old Loud Inc 4x10 on occasion, which is probably the best ‘bang for the buck’ I’ve owned.) Doing theatre shows I did want something that looks okay as well as sounding good, and for me the all GK pairing fits the bill just fine. Although a long time GK user, I’m still open to change though - if finances allowed I’d probably go down the Aguilar route as all the ones I’ve heard sound pretty damned good. A BF 4x10 (or two 2x10’s) would also tempt me, again if finances / gigs improve.

These are great, along with others like the Mackie and Behringer models. However, please beware - someone I worked with connected his ‘inline’ rather than using the auxiliary out from the mixer, which meant that when he turned the monitor output up it also affected the FOH level too. Took us ages to work out why his mic was significantly louder than at soundcheck, tw*t!

We’ve got gigs all over the place in the coming week, and hoping the situation will be resolved soon. We were in Stevenage last night, and coming home to Yorkshire up the A1 noticed that most of the fuel stations were open and all had supplies. Refuelling at night seems to save the hassle of queues that we saw on the way to the gig.
