  1. I don’t know much more, other than I believe they were / are made in Pocklington, East Yorkshire ( not far from me). I was doing a small gig in Scarborough a couple of years ago and got chatting to a nice guy inbetween sets, who turned out to be the owner of Guitar Galleries in the town. He was enthusing about this new small luthier who was making great instruments named PJD and they had just signed him up for an exclusive distribution deal IIRC. Guitar Galleries then opened a larger store in Beverley, and when I went in last year they had a number of PJD instruments in, but I haven’t seen any evidence of any basses yet. Great to see British makers doing well.
  2. We often play La Bamba on function gigs, and it always goes down well. If the dance floor is full then we (perhaps predictably...) segue into Twist and shout, works well. (that bit not in Spanish though...)
  3. Yup, this ^^^ Made in Indonesia, not overly loud and an average 12” speaker IIRC, but if it’s only for home use and is cheap then why not?
  4. This is me too. I’ve always (perhaps wrongly) viewed playing bass as being part of a group, and without other people readily on hand I just don’t get the same feeling about jamming along with tracks and on line stuff. I think for me it’s always been about playing live, and currently without the whole touring / band environment it all just feels a bit uninspiring. I have been having the odd hour or two with my Yamaha session cake headphone amp ( about the only good thing I’ve gained from lockdown) , and will need to ramp this up once I find out when our gigs look like recommencing. Bit worried my fingers will need some getting used to bass strings again too.
  5. Maybe a bit obvs with these, but certainly massive floor fillers IMHO. Get Lucky - Daft Punk Uptown Funk - Mark Ronson / Bruno Mars Happy - Pharrell Williams
  6. Amusingly there are now pics of the Hohner Arbor neckplate, and the price has rocketed! Fantastic.
  7. ....or at least that's what Keith looks like he's been doing recently.😆
  8. Even with the change of logo etc, the 4 in a row headstock design would surely be a giveaway to anybody with even a passing knowledge of Musicman stuff?
  9. I’ve used Strings and Beyond quite a few times. Really good US company, and their prices , whilst not quite so good as in recent years, still mean that if you’re buying a few sets it’s cheaper than most even after the delivery charge. I’ve always found it a bit of a lottery whether you have to pay duty on them, but again they are priced so well it still may be worth a punt.
  10. Don’t think I’m alone in watching Sky Arts on Freeview channel 11, as don’t have (or want ) a Sky subscription.
  11. I saw MM at Dingwalls in Hull in 1983. Didn’t know much about them, but went due to their having most of the Average White Band play on an early album. Great gig as I remember, Jim Mullen particularly good on guitar.
  12. Changes the pickup coils from series to parallel configuration - basically adds a brighter tonal option.
  13. They did, and then it did arena tours with his original live band playing along with Elvis ( on screen behind the band though).
  14. I think the catch up thing is probably only for those with similar TV platforms, not for Freeview cheapskates like me then. 😁
  15. Might be a dumb question, but when you can only watch Sky Arts stuff via Freeview channel 11, am I right in thinking there's no way of accessing any catch up facility?
  16. I remember people playing it okay apart from the F chord which was always a struggle for a beginner, especially on a guitar with a high action like most starter instruments were in those days.
  17. Yup, that’s the one. I watched it expecting it to be nothing special, but was blown away by it. Love Vince Gill, great singer and no slouch in the guitar stakes either. Also Steuart Smith on guitar is fantastic too, and Joe Walsh his usual brilliant self. Wasn’t sure if the vocals were a bit too good to be true in places (?) but overall thought it was a great performance.
  18. Just a heads up for a couple of things on Sky Arts today (Sunday 31st Jan)), channel 11 Freeview. At 5pm till 8pm there is Rush : Time Machine Live in Cleveland 2011. Not my thing but know there’s a lot of fans of the band on here. Then from 9pm to midnight there is The Eagles : Live from the LA Forum concert, from 2018. This was on recently in case you missed it. Cheers.
  19. Nice one - I wonder why they quote the 15 watts output @ 4 ohms when they’ve fitted an eight ohm job as standard though, with no means of running it at 4? Maybe the difference is so negligible. Come on down Bill!!
  20. Good advice, although regarding point 2 - check whether the amp will run into 4 ohms. With no extension speaker socket there’s a good possibility ( as with many smaller/ budget combos) that it will only run an 8 ohm speaker, which is probably what it had fitted at the factory.
  21. I will definitely need to have a good few run throughs of our complete sets before we confirm our first post Covid gig, whenever that may be. Nearly a year now and it doesn't bode well for my memory. Especially backing vocals which are always the first to disappear from my brain. We've already discussed having a couple of days rehearsal to get things tight, and we may have a new band member to accommodate too so it will be time well spent.
  22. If you're looking to find a lighter bass, perhaps the Hohner B2 range aren't for you, as they're not as light as you may think - 7 to 9lb are quite common. Great basses though.
