  1. OK, time for a long overdue update… I can report that the Fiebings black leather dye is blacker than a black hole and I would recommend it over other brands that I've tested, which all had some degree of show-through resulting in a dark brown colour A couple of coats was all that it needed, even one coat was very black, with no show-through Once dry it showed up my poor sanding – lots of tiny scratches across the grain etc – I've sanded it now from 300 through to 1200 and arrived at this driftwood appearance – it's quite appealing and now I've got used to it, but will almost certainly go again with the black, possibly grain-filling with pewter rub'n'buff. One thing about the driftwood look that I like is that when I inevitably smack it on the edge of a drum kit I won't be too bothered as the ding won't show in the same way as on a pristine black finish. The Haussel pickups are looking the part – single coil at the neck – a mini-switch will be fitted to allow a few pickup blend options.
  2. Anyone had any contact with John East (of pre-amp fame) recently – emails are going unanswered for some time now
  3. I too have the Sennheiser HD25s – they aren't flat response by any means – they have pronounced bass. I also use Sennheiser HD650s which are as flat as a flat thing and are widely used for reference – I use both straight from the output jack on the bass via John East pre-amps – the 650s are louder than the HD25s. Hope this helps.
  4. Hi Can anyone shed light on the pros and cons of these two designs, eg can I get a P sound from the first one with appropriate switching/wiring? double split coil humbucker https://www.delano.de/mc_4_fe_m2/mc_4_fe_m2_details.html dual coil humbucker https://www.delano.de/mc_4_fe/mc_4_fe_details.html I'll be pairing this with a J at the bridge and will need advice on wiring options, such as parallel/series, two single coils and whatever else might be worthwhile Cheers!
  5. Hi @BassBunny – with Delano pickups, do you have to request extra wires/contacts for series/parallel etc, or is it straight forward to do with any pickup? I'm building a new bass that has been routed for a Delano MM and a J and I'm exploring wiring options – I will create a new post shortly Cheers
  6. Not often you see a maple neck on a Wal @medpb
  7. Anybody using one of these? Are they any good? https://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Electric-Guitar-Foam-Case-by-Gear4music/C86
  8. Dear @Bassbandit – Hank never went without lube, take that back right now 😎
  9. for gawd's sake somebody buy this, it's a bargain – I worked in a shop that stocked these and they flew out of the door
  10. mods - please move to the 'share your music' section, thanks

  12. Yeah, something about it for sure 😊
  13. just came across this on the FB Wal Lovers group
  14. Mike is your man… http://www.madebymike.co.uk He made a Pearl Octaver clone for me – lots of custom finish options too
  15. or maybe Herbie F only wrote for Clive Dunn?
  16. Good debate this – I'm now wondering what it must be like to move between playing bass with Bowie and Clive Dunn 😐
  17. WTF? Points of View is still on – you're kidding right!? I quite enjoyed Barry Took's wry approach – no doubt it's the Alice Cooper clone from Strictly doing it now As for people keeping on about this, this is my first time commenting – it has to be time for something new though, surely? I don't think the new stage design is good either, just my opinion
  18. I don't care what the answer to this question is to be honest, but why the feck do they put it on over two nights? There are also references in the show to 'tomorrow' when JH speaks, as though we think it's actually taking place over two days – yeah, sure Dear Points of View (remember that?), please, please decommission it now and bring back Blankety Blank or Z-Cars, or that show about motorcycle trials riding 😜
  19. Thanks @Cuzzie – the body has a rear cavity with enough room for a couple of switches – I'll let Haussel know what I'm after when I place the order Cheers!
  20. Thanks @Cuzzie – perfect explanation!
  21. I wonder if that was one of my old Wals (sold both in 2010) – one of which had a wood shim, although there must be loads with that type of adjustment – might be easier than fitting a mechanism, along with drilling through the neck plate
  22. Thanks @Andyjr1515 – sounds about right – will have a think about it before committing Cheers!
  23. I'm thinking of buying a triple bucker from Hausell – I'm going for a custom split jazz/quad coil MM version My question is, what are my wiring options? I'd like to get as many options as possible with up to two switches I'll be pairing this with a split J at the neck Cheers!
  24. Anyone got any thoughts on this – I'm building a custom Stingray and I am weighing up all the options Does the neck still have full wood contact with the body with a tilt going going on? I should say that I'm on about the Fender-style adjustment, rather than shoving a slice of wood or credit card in there
  25. Thanks @CHRISDABASS – may give it a go if I can summon up the nerve! Cheers!
