HOW GOOD ARE STINGRAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
seymourfluid replied to marcus bell's topic in General Discussion
If you are a “Jazz” man you need to take a look at the musicman Sterling…. http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basses/sterling.html Same neck as the Jazz at 1 ½” wide but the musicman sound. I have played around with Rickenbacker, fender, Gibson but always go back to my Sterling. It’s just the best bass I have ever played. -
When there is a faulty product then, IMO, the blame is with the manufacturer... unless the suggestion is that Thomann are deliberately buying in cheaper, faulty products.
Just to clarify here, I wasn't actually having a go at Thomann. If anyone is at fault, it’s poor quality control from Fender. A brand new guitar at this price should not be shipped to a customer in this state. Thomann have agreed a local fix if the cost is reasonable (They will pay) otherwise they will ship a replacement or refund my money. It saves them a bit of fuss and money if I can get a repair locally that we are both happy with. That’s fair enough in my book. I’m still however very disappointed as I have waited a week for my new baby to turn up only to find it crackles and buzzes and can’t be gigged without a fix. I want to use it at the Cambridge rock festival on Friday and my local shop have said they will give me a quick turn around.
But after the repair charge, probably getting close to the £765 that is being asked for by a lot of UK retailers. Trouble will be in a few more years, when everyone is buying online from the cheapest supplier and there will be no local shops left to do the repair. p.s. glad to see you do support yours, there are lots of people that are driven by price alone.
Thomann will pay the cost of the repair if the quote for the repair is acceptable, so good service after a problem.
Could the local music shop not have supplied it in the first place?
At the moment, because of the exchange rate, it was lots cheaper from Thomann. I have just purchased a Martin from the local shop so they are happy with me. :-)

14:55 New bass delivered to door! (Japanese Fender Jaguar Deluxe CBL £720 from Thomann) 14:10 Plugged in to amp……… Earth buzz like you wouldn’t believe. 14:15 Checked Music Man Sterling, quiet as a mouse. 15:25 Phoned Thormann, agreed local fix without compromise to warranty. 15:35 In car 15:45 walked in to my local music shop and left my new bass behind. Bollocks! 50 minutes to first fix. Is this a record?

I only pressed the buy button about an hour ago so no pics yet. :-) Gub, if you want to see the bass, http://www.fender.com/en-GB/products/search.php?partno=0259505587 :-)

“………………………..but of course we now have to watch our language/band banter/risqué jokes etc the whole time and generally be on our best behavior and the whole travelling side of things (a big part of our day) is now like a family day out.” ???????????????............................. Sorry, I don’t understand…………. Why of course? You’re going out with your mates for beer, music and fun. If you sanitize the environment, they WILL think it’s OK to bring the kids. Tell the jokes, have a beer and don’t be on your best behavior and you can bet your bottom dollar, the wife will stop coming as well as the kids. Bottom line for me is if I'm not enjoying it, I'll go and do something else.

We used to rehearse at a local church. They were after the cash but seemed to get a bit arsy when they caught the lead guitarist doing a Van Halen off of the alter. They only had to look at him to know what he was going to do. What did they expect? Seymour
Maybe you could trade the M6 in for an M3...
I have tried most of the above, most colour the pure sound I wanted when I spent the money. :-( I contacted PMT southend who sold me the amp to ask if they would consider a part ex to an M3. 3 months old, 6 gigs, flight cased and they offered me £450. Reply not repeatable.
I wouldn't recommend running two different cabs in series because their dissimilar impedance curves will cause strange power distribution and tone issues. Try just using one cab instead.
I tried one cab last night. Takes the power down to 320W and I used the 2*12 on it's own. I just don't get the bottom end that I do with both cabs, so I need to run the 1*15 as well. What I should have done was buy the M3 300Watt version but it's a bit late now. :-(
Can't you just turn the Pre amp gain up and keep the master volume down?
That's the problem. I have the master gain on 0.25. Only just breaking the power amp in and the preamp gain is around 11 o'clock. The valves don't start breaking until 12 o'clock. If I run just one cab, I can't get the sound so I need to run at 16 Ohm.

Hi, can I get some help from you guys please? I have purchased a Mesa boogie Carbine M6 with 2 cabs, a 2 * 12 and a 1 *15. This was a direct replacement for an Ashdown AMB 575 with similar cabs. The mistake I made was assuming that as they are both about 600W the volumes of the 2 rigs would be about the same. The efficiency of the Boogie rig means that it’s soooo much louder I can’t run it at any volume and can’t drive the pre-amp stage to get the growl I want. If I run the two 8-Ohm cabs in series instead of parallel to get 16-Ohm, would it affect the tonal quality of the amp or would it just run at about 180 W? Does anyone know where I can buy a good quality speakon lead or box to bridge for serial? Thanks, Seymour

I’ve got a musicman sterling running through an ashdown ABM500 anniversary head with a bass pod XT. I couldn’t get the sound I wanted so I bought a VT bass but then, I was colouring my sound to sound like an Ampeg SVT. You’ve got the real thing. Why would you want to buy an emulator? It’s a fantastic pedal for me but is it what you need with your rig?

Simon Naish, I've got a gig comming up,.......................................................................................... Can I borrow your gear please? ehh,......please?
