Lowest string .317 - "needs to be thicker" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Matt P replied to KiOgon's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
whoa! that's a beast, not sure about some of the features though, eye bolts as strap buttons? and the tuners look like guitar ones to me. and don't get me started on the bridge (no intonation adjustment and 15 strings anchored into 9 single string anchors?)

Matt
-
Should be able to make this now. If there is anything in the sale section on my website that anyone particularly wants to try please let me know since I will not be bringing every thing I have avilable.
The Graft basses look very tempting, G013, G036 and G033Ü not that i'm in a position to buy at the moment, but it might prompt me to save up for one (although i think a 5 string standard recurve SC with a single humbucker would be more likely) Matt

Allowing someone to use your bass at a gig.
Matt P replied to jazzyvee's topic in General Discussion
i generally carry a spare bass so would probaly lend them that, i usually gig the letts 5 string which i am not that protective of, it would all depend on who was asking, if i know them then i'll lend my gear, if not then it would be a gut feeling that would decide it. i actually have my 77 p-bass out on loan to a friend at the moment, he asked very politely and i'm 100% confident that he will treat it as if it were his own (it actually was his until he gave into my constant pestering to sell it to me!) ive got a set of the er20's and some of the alpine pro (with the 3 interchangable filters) i've been looking at the cheap mould your own ones and was thinking that they would cut out too much sound, what about drilling them and fitting the filters from my Alpines? would that work? Matt

how about a Hohner b2? or a steinberger, they should have a far more authentic sound and the pickups are a standard size so you can modify it to fine tune the sound to your liking (although from what i've read of the Hohner they actually sound very nice as standard). Matt

FENDER PRECISION BASS COMPARISON — USA / MEXICO / JAPAN
Matt P replied to guitarbank's topic in General Discussion
They all sounded great to me, unmistakably precision basses, the 77 edged out in front for me too, and with that I'm off to take my 77 p-bass out of its case! Matt -

Ashdown advice needed......ABM 4x8 Neo
Matt P replied to jonnythenotes's topic in General Discussion
I had one of the non-neo 4x8 cabs that had been retrofitted with the neo speakers, it was a great sounding cab and not too weighty at 20kg, but for the price of the new cabs you have a huge range of even lighter cabs,I went over to barefaced cabs, a pair of midgets that together weigh less than the one ashdown and one midget will easily out perform my old ashdown. For 700 quid there is a huge range of very light cabs available. Matt -

shouldn't the back be sunburst as well? looks solid black to me, and i'm fairly sure that the body wood isn't good enough that fender would stick a translucent finish over it, the grain is all obver the place. Matt
-
have you considered swapping to the traditional BBOT bridge and then fitting a bridge cover? that might cover up the damaged finish pretty well (and i think it looks ace! as can be seen by my profile pic.) Matt
One of these years I will make this event. Down in London at a bass related event this year what were the chances of that. Bugger.
i'm dissapointed, but i think my bank manager has breathed a sigh of relief! M

I've already replied on the facebook post but i'll repeat it here, I'm coming along, will be bringing most of the kit in my signature below, If anyone has an Aguilar TH500 thant they could bring along then i'd be very interested to try it with the midgets. Don't forget that there is a lack of local shops to get food at so if you're coming for the whole thing you might want to pack some sandwiches, i'll bake something to share round though (cookies/muffins/brownies depending on my mood) Matt

while i don't actually own a TE head i do get to use one occasionally, my church has a gp11 ah250 as the house bass amp, i have always liked the tone and luckily it doesn't need moving very often as it lives on stage, i had one of the superfly amps and the tone from the preamp was very close, i really liked it but it got struck by the dreaded power stage whine/whistle so it had to go.) if they were to make an amp that combined the gp11 pre with a class d power section then i'd be first in the queue for one! (it would have to glow green though!) Matt

thanks for the links, are the far east ones slightly different to the usa ones? it seems that they want you to specify what arrangement you want with the far east ones where as the usa ones it says they are easily converted. has anyone tried swapping far east one from one side to the other? Matt
-
i'm patiently waiting for that link too, i've got ultralites on my Letts 5 String, no idea if they're the USA ones or the Chinese but they work perfectly, i had a 2+3 headstock arrangement so the b-string has a bit more length before it gets to the tuner, means that it's still on the taper when in tune, works perfectly,

if i didn't make my own i'd be Buying Obbm, in fact all of my speaker cables are Obbm ones as i couldn't get the same grade of cable in small enough quantities. Matt

To Pedalsnake or not to Pedalsnake; that is the question?
Matt P replied to Dave_the_bass's topic in Accessories and Misc
ahh, well from what you've described maybe the pedalsnake is actually the answer! personally i wouldn't run the power along it ( never liked the idea of power and signal lines running together) so i'd go for a seperate psu on the board (i've gone for a harley benton junior and a palmer one as they both have isolated outputs which allows for 18v and higher current connections) but if you are happy running the power with the signal chain then a pedalsnake would appear to be the perfect solution. To Pedalsnake or not to Pedalsnake; that is the question?
Matt P replied to Dave_the_bass's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm Afraid that i don't have any experience with a pedal snake but having looked at the website it seems that it would be perfect if you needed multiple runs from the pedalboard to the amp (using effects in the amps fx loop as well as betwee the bass and the amp input) but taking my pedalboard as an example then the pedal snake is overkill, i have a single cable back to the amp (all of my pedals sit between bass and amp) and all of my power is on a single iec connector which is linked to a pair of power supplies that handle the myriad of power connections that the pedals need (one at 18v, one at 9v with high current and the rest on standard 9v connections) plugging in is pretty quick, run a cable from my last pedal to the amp and then plug my backup bass into the a/b switch (there's a Line 6 wireless reciever for the main bass) then connect a single kettle lead to the board and watch all the pretty lights blink on! from your signature it seems that you only have a few pedals so the pedalsnake might be overkill. i think that the status strings are made by Picato, i've got the status half wopunds on my fretless, and they are indeed great strings, (as an aside i think that picato also make strings for Overwater, i had a set of the picato flats on a precision and bought a set of the overwater flats for my old 5 string and they were identical in feel, look and tone.) Matt

i'm a flats only player, i fitted a set of the d'addario chromes to my Letts 5 string about a year ago and they still sound ace, in fact i have been complimented on the tone recently! they seem to settle very quickly then are nice and consistant, the price is pretty steep but they last for so long that when you finally get round to needing a new set you will have forgotton how much they cost. I did try rounds when i first got it but they didn't stay on for long, i used to exclusively used DR Marcus miller rounds and loved them but then i bought my 77 p-bass and it had a set of old flats fitted, everything just fell into place and it's been flats ever since. i have no idea what the strings are on the p-bass but they are perfect.
