2. Deleted list as I just realised I'd spoilt the game. 13
 3.
I use one of the older, non red fronted ones and it sounds really good. Picked it up for £150 which was a bit of a bargain. It's heavy though, I can barely carry it because of the awkward size and top mounted handle. And I'm very weedy.
Yes, the handle is pretty useless where it is. Some heavy duty castors on the bottom and/or a couple of side mounted handles would be a good investment.
 4.
Okay it looks like due to renovations they will be back in the pub carpark until closing time. How do good do you think the rhythm will be come closing time ??
Erm... 'jauntily eccentric' ?
 5.
Last time I saw him he was back on Ibanez again. I'll try and play 'name that bass' at the weekend.
Back on the SR505 again.
 6.
I've seen Fairport dozens of times, both at Cropredy & on tour. Absolutely superb band & a great bunch of musicians (past & present) - Peggy is a legend & Simon Nicol is a very under-rated guitarist. Missed them in Cardiff last night as I just didn't have the money.
And a thoroughly nice bunch of chaps as well - you'll spot them queuing at the bar like everyone else and are very much of the attitude that its the audience that makes the whole thing worthwhile.
 7.
Bodhran is decent if done right.
Yeah, but you're living in a country where they do it right Over here they're just belted as hard as possible in vague time with the tune...
Better than the feckin' Lambegs my lot have. Getting to that time of year when they all start practising round here for the 12th
Well, on the plus side, at least they're practising for the parade and not up to mischief like they used to...
 8.
I used to have one of Dave Pegg's old basses - it was a pearl Riverhead that he'd had defretted. Very nice it was too!
Last time I saw him he was back on Ibanez again. I'll try and play 'name that bass' at the weekend.
 9.
That's one of the operas yes. I think Martin Barre is now involved as well with that.
That wouldn't surprise me, Fairport and Tull have been swapping/sharing band members for years
We saw them in "Anne de Bretagne", also written by Alain Simon. Also had Les Holroyd in it (bassist from Barclay James Harvest) but doing one of the main vocal parts. Dave Pegg was on bass all night. Great stuff.
I love the music I've heard from it but not being a french speaker is a bit of a problem...
 10.
Bugger, can't go anywhere from here now. Saw most of Fairport in France a couple of years back in a big rock / folk / theatrical production. Absolutely brilliant.
Oh, was that the Excalibur rock opera thing they've been doing? They're touring it in Europe again this year I think.
 11.
Do NOT, repeat - DO NOT PLAY THE BODHRAN! Or at least, not in public. If you think you were a social misfit before, you are guaranteed to be one if you do that. Joke - What is the difference between a bodhran player and a terrorist? Terrorists have sympathisers.
+1 Only one thing worse than a bodhran and that's a bodhran with someone smacking it! EDIT: Thinking about it, a didgerydon't is pretty bad as well...
 12.
I just checked and they have tickets available for the Town Hall Birmingham! £22 that's cheap for a gig these days Now, if I can just talk the misses into it.........
I know! I only bought mine this afternoon. A guitarist I do a lot of work with went to see them last year and was totally blown away by them. His missus wasn't too keen on going because she 'doesn't really like that sort of stuff' and has ended up buying every Fairport CD she can find over the last six months and has been nagging us to do a couple of their songs.
 13.
Fair enough, but if you can't make it, I'l be all alone, but that's the only way to be. So no worries.
Never mind, you'll have your chance again, then you can do the work for me - 'cos I'm a lazy b*st*rd
 14.
I went to college in Newark with Chris Leslie. Heck of a fiddle player even then! The folk sessions we had in the pubs were amazing... I was playing guitar in DADGAD in those days, don't any more... I've got several of the classic Fairport LPs but I've never seen them live! I've got to put that right.
Oh you really have to see them live - those guys are tighter than a ducks bottom.
 15.
Great, I'll meet you on the ledge then, about 8.30.
Cool ... and when our time is up we can see all our friends...
 16.
Hi, one more quick question. What would anyone think is a fair price to pay for one of these? I'm in ireland so things are a bit dearer here, but just looking for a ball park figure to work from. Thanks again for all the input.
I've seen the TNT115BW going for around £230 in 'immaculate condition'. The TNT115 was about £40 or £50 cheaper when new, so around £200 for one of those would be reasonable.
 17.
I have wanted see Fairport for a while as I had heard there performances were really good.
They were playing at The Stables tonight - that completely sold out it seems! That leaves you with Shrewsbury or Birmingham if you want to see them this side of Cropredy... They really have to be one of the hardest touring bands I've ever come across - they have played 29 gigs in the last 32 days - pretty good going for a band whose combined ages is just under 300 years!
 18. I'm off to see them in Birmingham this weeked
 19.
Personally, I would advise that theory is a bad idea and should be avoided at all costs... ... last thing we old pros want is for some young(er) rapscallion to start getting all the gigs.
+1 Yep. No need to know any theory at all, totally unnecessary and a waste of time... (pssst... do you think they bought it Steve? )
 20. I was looking at these a few months ago but I don't think they have a UK importer as yet.
 21. Reality check here. Apart from that misunderstanding with the chainsaw in the swimming pool, you don't come across as a social misfit. You accept that you aren't going to be Geddy Lee and that shows you aren't delusional - something that every crap bass player I've ever met has been. So, unless you've invented an entirely new way of being crap, you can forget that one! That just leaves the 'meet crap people' aspect... You joined a band who don't ever intend to gig and only have enough enthusiasm to practice once a month. In all honesty, it sounds to me as if you've had a lucky escape from a pretty pointless exercise. As has already been suggested, get your ar*e down to a couple of 'plug n play' nights - they're a breeding ground for bands!
 22. Les Dawson's piano playing wasn't accidental - he started out as a pianist and had the background musical theory to know exactly which note was going to have the desired effect.
 23. Yeah, the pickguards are roughly the same size but you'll have to drill new holes (or find one with the right number of holes). Had exactly the same thing when I wanted to replace the pickguard on my Fender Jazz.
 24.
This is not entirely correct - you can use the BTC/BTS/BQC/BQS control with any pickup. It's the BTC/BTS/BQC/BQS system which mandates the use of EMG pickups - probably because of the blend control.
Yes, I was in two minds as to whether I should include the BT and BQ systems in there. It just seemed easier to include them to avoid 'early onset confusion'.
 25.
Is it me, or has any one else noticed how much guitarists are getting slated here lately? I personally don't mind, theres alot of crap out there and some of them need to be knocked down a peg or two. I also wonder if we're getting the same treatment on a guitarists forum. I'd like to read that!
At the risk of mass generalisation, experienced bass players do seem to be their own worst critics. That kinda makes 'knocking us down a peg or two' a bit of an unfulfilling exercise.
