1. These basses are made of Luthite - some people like it, some don't. Luthite is a sort of 'fake wood' and critics reckon it can crack if dropped and paint chips off it easily. The necks on the EDC series are slightly different to the SR series necks (slightly wider IIRC). Have to say that, despite being an Ibby user, I probably wouldn't take a gamble on one of these unless I could try it out first...
 2.
Also, whats the difference over a Class A and Class D amp?
Most of it is related to how the signals are processed within the amplifier. Class A amps are the 'bog standard' amplifiers that we've all seen/owned/used. Big box with a dirty great transformer to run the power supply inside which is switched on the whole time the amp is in use. Class D amps essentially switch parts of their output stage on and off depending on the signal being passed through them - the power supplies are smaller as they don't need to be on the whole time, therefore allowing smaller and lighter units to be built.
 3.
Ah, that'll be a design feature so that you can get distortion from the amp itself, or from the speakers, or .... from your eardrums melting.
4.
I'm not having that. I know guys with awesome technique who have have used Ahead sticks from time to time, and have no problems. If you lack technique, you'll suck whatever sticks you use-using Ahead sticks won't help. Anyway, how can a stick help poor players and hinder good ones?
Aww sh*t. Does this mean that I need to actually learn some stuff instead of waiting for Ahead to bring out a set of bass strings that put all the notes in the right places..?
 5.
Ooh, I hadn't thought of that possibility. If it is breaking the output from the pre but leaving the power amp running then presumably it does need a speaker connected? It would have been so much easier if the manufacturer had just spelt it out in the manual. Or replied to the enquiry I put on their website two weeks ago.
Yep. It's certainly not just feeding the amp output into the headphones like the old transistor radios used to - I have a similar socket on one of my heads and 500W into a set of headphones could be a bit uncomfortable.
 6. That depends on what the headphone socket is cutting off. I'd guess that what it's doing is breaking the output from the preamp and leaving the power amp running...
 7. We have two pubs in this village - one has mostly cover bands whilst the other one has mostly originals bands. The 'covers pub' is packed on a Saturday night, they pay their bands about £150 - £200 and get a big enough turnout to make it worthwhile. The 'originals pub' pays a flat £30, attracts a handful of punters and the locals are waiting for it to become yet another recession casualty. Regardless of the 'rights' or 'wrongs' of playing covers, if the punters will turn out to watch it then of course that's what the publican is going to put on...
 8. You need to make sure that you fold all of the outer sheath back over the plug - it only takes one strand to be touching the centre conductor to stop the cable from working. HTH
 9.
But if there are less and less opportunities for original stuff to be played live, what will the tribute/cover acts in 20 years time be playing?
...Mustang Sally, Alright Now, Johnny B Goode.....
 10.
The blunt truth about getting paid for playing original material is this: If your original material is good, you're in with a shout. If it isn't any good, don't blame cover & tribute bands.
+1 If the original material was good then cover bands would be covering it...
 11. Take a look under your scratchplate before you order the circuit and see how much space you have under there before you start ordering parts. I had a hell of a job fitting a Seymour Duncan STC-2B board and 9v battery in my JBass - I have had a loathing of routers ever since I gave one of my fingers a decorative scroll edge and what started out as a poorly conceived plan turned into a woodworking nightmare...
 12.
What you get is impressive quality and high efficiency using touring grade components with tried and tested technology.
Yes, but do you get handles? Looking at the pics I couldn't see any way of actually moving this kit.
 13.
Playing is impotent
That expains the problem I have getting the lighting stands up...
 14. I like to know 'what's out there' but I don't get swayed by pretty pictures and talk of 'this is the best bass because...'. If I have an equipment need then I look at it critically (to make sure it is a real 'need' and not just a 'want'), research the market place and identify products that fall within the criteria I have set. Once I've done that I'll take a look at the iems 'in the flesh' and judge them on their merits. I'm the retail worlds worst nightmare.
 15.
Yes, the SR300 is an active bass. The battery is fine, unfortunately. Bombed it with Servisol to no avail. Looks like a trip to a repairer, if it needs parts hopefully Ibanez will be quicker than the 6 weeks it took to send a battery compartment last year.
Before you take it in, it's not something daft like the knob grubscrew has come loose and you're turning the knob but not the pot shaft..?
 16. If it's the one with the rebranded Bartolini's in it, you're going to have trouble trying to find something to drop directly into the pickup cavity. Best off repairing what's already there IMO. From memory (so probably wrong!) the SR300 is an active bass - have you tried changing the battery as a starting off point?
 17.
I've been doing a lot of research on the Terror - and from what I've gathered the 1000w version is a bit excessive, and the 500w will give you plenty of volume. I can't really advise on your cab selection as I'm in a similar situation to you, but I would say that maybe you don't NEED such a big rig...
I'd need to stand on a chair to reach the amp controls if it was on top of an 8x10 cab!
 18.
thats so true, But the thing is, i should have mentioned, I also play in a Pop rock kind of Original band, And have plans for a Modern / Hard Rock band, Influences from Nickelback (Old Stuff) theory of a deadman and King's X. haha So Power and sound quality are quite important.
I have no idea who any of those are Ok, sticking to your options, I'd play it smart and go for the ABM 115 + ABM 410 and the 1000W amp then. That gives you 950W in two reasonably manageable sized cabs. Two 8Ω cabs will give you a 4Ω load (there's a switch on the back of the Terror Bass to select 4Ω/8Ω). Using two cabs also means that you have the option of just using one of them (set the switch on the back of the Terror Bass to 8Ω) for smaller gigs - just don't turn your amp up too high though.
 19.
I'll try and remember that next time.
20. Erm - do you not think using 8x10 or 6x10 + 1x15 cabs might be just a bit excessive for pub gigs?
 21.
Expect some annoying PM's about tips for wiring up my workshop/shed.
Tip 1 - Never test cables by licking them...
 22.
I don't know why you would need to actually go down to an E an octave lower than a regular E string. You can match the guitar on a standard tuned five string(or four) if you want, you don't need to double the guitar lines an octave or two lower. I always keep my instruments in standard tuning and have never had any problems.
+1 I suspect that dropping an extra octave is just going to result in mush.
 23.
I am currently building an EB3 type bass and was wondering if it would be ok to use a Les Paul wiring harness (2 vol 2 tone and 3 way switch) connected to the 2 pickups ?
There's a fair chance that you'll find that the pot and cap values are wrong.
 24. I've had stuff from Thomann - same as most people here, about 3 days from order to delivery.
 25.
Really? I didn't think it's been legal to supply electrical equipment to the UK without a proper UK 13 amp plug fitted for quite a few years now.
It is perfectly legal to supply equipment without a mains plug fitted. Most manufacturers tend to fit plugs because it removes a portion of liability and ensures customer safety.
