2.
Story of my life m8,story of my life....
Ah well, looking on the bright side, at least you didn't end up charging yourself postage on top...
  3.
After having a little read through the manual (handy things manuals!) I think you're right. I did have it fairly close to the wall. Any other fault it states the power light turns red, in this case it never....It stayed blue I'm thinking about taking it back though as there was bit of a rattle/buzz when i played certain notes...
Ah. If it's under warranty still then it'd definately be worth taking it back for a checkover anyway - it'll give you a bit of reassurance that it's not going to die on you - as long as you leave a good vent space.
  4. The MB range has a number of fault sensing circuits dotted around it. Faults that can cause shutdown are: Short circuits Mis-wired speaker cables Blown speakers Incorrect speaker configurations Improper ventilation I'm guessing that if you are using this as a combo without extension cabs, the most likely culprit is the 'improper ventilation' scenario. These amps don't have a fan to cool them - they rely on a big heatsink on the back of the amp. That heatsink needs a good 8" of air space behind it, call it a foot to be on the safe side.
If the amplifier senses any unsafe operating conditions, the output signal is immediately muted and the power light changes from Blue to Red. The amplifier will remain muted until the fault is removed. If the protection circuit activates while playing, turn the amplifier off and check the speaker output. If the problem persists, contact GK directly for technical advice.
5.
on ebay it shot up to £0.99p.....and it was me that f***in bid for it...
You sold yourself a bargain there Dougie...
  6.
Do you chaps all abandon the existing kit for the new bass?
Nope. All the basses I have are totally different and each stands (or falls) on it's own merit. If I add another instrument to my collection then it's either a replacement for an existing (retired) instrument or adds something different to what I already have. I show no real favouritism to any particular instrument I own, they just get used to suit different musical requirements.
  7.
If i was going to get 2 cabs to go with this how would it work, the head is 500w @ 4 ohms so would i need two 8 ohm cabs with a combined wattage of around 500?
Yep
  8.
And what price would they be discounted down from..?
Assuming they were after their original investment back - I'd guess about £99.
  9.
We're also working on Message & Can't Stand Losing......I'm surprised to hear that people don't play the Police (except for the key - and possibly drummer - issues). I don't think anyone round here does but that's not saying much.
The key is a little hard for our singer to hit so we're having to balance what's achievable whilst not straying too far from the feel of the original. It's sounding 'possible' at the moment...
  10.
I've never heard a cover band do The Police. Which is a shame. I'd love to hear Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic or Doo Doo Doo De Da Da Da live.
Yep - I've never heard anyone doing a Police cover either, which is odd as they were a big part of 80s/90s music. We're working on Message in a Bottle and Every Little Thing at the moment.
  11.
Something like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-Microphone-Mic-L...=item2a0e2f8634 ???
Yep that's the sort of thing.
  12.
If I saw these in a SR shop at £120, I wouldn't even bother to enter. At that price tehre are just too many well known brands that offer something decent. I wouldn't associate a charity shop brand with something of decent quality when it comes to a guitar.
Ironically, if these were hanging up in a guitar shop at £120 as the shops 'budget' brand, these would have shifted quite well I think. The problem is that they have no real niche within the retail environment to capitalise on - as far as much of the general public is concerned, charity shops sell secondhand books, clothes and ornaments. Like many charity shops, SR seem to be branching out and trying new ways of bringing revenue in to support the generally excellent work the core charity is doing.
  13.
I agree with the £60 just to shift. But then they never really marketed them how many people didn't see them until it was posted here?? I know if I ever seen an instrument of any kind in a charity shop window I would assume it's a donation rather than a sourced in stock item.
A lot of charity shops seem to be buying in products to sell through their shops, so they're starting to follow the more generally recognisable retail model - there's one in a town near me that is selling 'mexican style' pine bedroom furniture. I think marketing a repeatable sourced product is just something they haven't quite got the hang of yet.
  14.
aaaanyway, what's that saying about a dead horse?
... never look french cuisine in the mouth..?
  15.
Interestingly, I thought the quality/finish was comparable to what I'd expect to find for £189-199 in a shop, so that sounds like a good price tag. I bet people wouldn't just say "it *has* to be crap". They woudl try, then say "nice" or "nah, not for me". The £60 one however some they might not even touch...
The impression I've got is that Ryder have had these basses in for a while as a bit of an 'experiment' but weren't selling them fast enough at the price they were asking. Given that once they've 'gone' there are no more, looks to me that they've dropped the price right down to £60 just to shift them out of the door...
  16.
This is going to sound daft. But If I wanted to record on my PC could I take a DI from the line 6 through the amp modeller into the usb of the computer??
Not without a conversion cable or box of some description.
  17. I'll never get the hang of relicing either - would you go out and buy a brand new car with painted on scrapes and dents in the doors? I think not... The satin finish will wear off and become glossy (mine usually go in the space of two months). ESP have been turning out some very nice kit over the past couple of years.
  18.
I wouldn't say it was easy at all.... but there are tiers of different functions.... Alot of the Corporate work we pick up is because we go the extra mile where other bands don't or agencies can't be arsed..... Agencies are a complete waste of time IMO. In 5 years of the current function band I'm with we have had 4 bookings through agents and all were absolute nightmare.
+1 We used to work through an agency but had 3 bookings over the space of couple of months that were an absolute farce. 1) We weren't told a wedding gig had been cancelled due to family bereavement, travelled 40 miles to setup and then discovered the agency had been told about the cancellation two weks beforehand. 2) Wrong hotel name provided and nobody to ask back at the agency as it was a Saturday. Had to ring around all the local hotels to track gig down. 3) Two bookings by the agency on same night at same time - bit of a naff mistake but made even worse by the agency ignoring the fact that we told them we couldn't do two venues at the same time two weeks beforehand.
It's not the fact that corporations cannot be arsed with the hassel, most of the people I work with are very much on your case for the engagements. It's more the point that they know they are getting what they pay for, they know that we turn up when asked and provide everything they need to have a successful function/product launch/lick off meeting... whatever it is. They don't want the local pub band turning up at half past six in the evening and carrying all their equipment through a crowded room of dinner guests.
+1 We try and get into the venue as early as we possibly can - we have a booking tomorrow night from 9pm - we've got access to the room from 10am. Means we can get everything setup and soundchecked, have plenty of time to iron out any technical 'glitches' and get to know the hotel staff - you never know if you're going to need a last minute favour!

    Nut Glue
In all my works, I use two tiny drops of cyanoacrilate (superglue? In italy it's sold as "Attak") to hold nuts in place. If you need to remove the nut, you just need a firm hit with a little hammer, and it will pop off.
Nut Glue
That cheap glue that comes with fake nails. All you need is something to hold the nut in place while you get the strings on. Tension will do the rest.
So you reckon I'm gonna be OK to go into a shop to buy fake fingernails and try to explain it by saying I have a problem with my nuts..?
  24.
Perhaps I'm narrow minded, but I can't really see 'Sex on fire' still being played in 40 years time.
Dunno about that, it does seem to drag on quite a bit...
  25. The Hartke amps are pretty solid and good value for money. Cab wise, I find a 1x15 on it's own a little bottom heavy - especially if you're working with a loud drummer. I've owed a 4x10 for quite a few years and that gives a pretty good sound within a rock setting, but it's a pain in the rear end lugging it along to rehearsals and smaller gigs. I went for a 2x10 and a 1x15 in the end. As a complete rig, it gives me plenty of 'oomph' at the bottom end and a nice kick from the 2x10 to keep up with loud drummers. It also gives me the option of just using my amp head and the 2x10 for smaller gigs and rehearsals.
