When your STBEW is not looking, you should empty her suitcases, tip her clothes in the bin, and repack them with cats instead. She won't realise until she gets to her new place.
Good idea but too late...

I'm half Welsh and living in the Midlands, so I'm used to a multitude of different accents, but I could only understand one word in six of this clip. Even making allowances for my strong suspicion that the 'chip on the shoulder' is nothing more than a fashion accessory, I always believed that the concept of a good performance was that it should be able to transcend geographic boundaries and is accessible to any who want to listen to it... Still, it is the X Factor - perhaps one day they'll find the Y chromosome as well...

Well this is an odd one... With the departure of my, soon to be ex, wife, I have been left with 29 cats - no that ain't a typo... Being the realist that I am, there's absolutely no way that I want to continue her pretence of being a responsible pet owner (after all, if I gave each cat just 10 mins of attention each day it'd take 5 hours!) and am therefore doing it for real now. There are a mixture of long and short haired types in various sexes and colours. They're all well fed, healthy (as far as I can tell) and litter trained. The two mothers (neutered as of yesterday) were both feral and their offspring are sturdy little sods They've been bought up alongside two dogs so should have no problem integrating with 'cat proof' dogs. I've been in touch with the local cat rehoming agencies but they're struggling for space. If anyone here on BC can offer one a good home, free of charge naturally, then please shout. I'll even get him or her neutered for you at my expense if that helps
Annoyingly, I can't find the serial number on my BB300 or any reference as to where it is on the 'net. In one forum, someone mentioned it being on the headstock - but it ain't!
Well, if it isn't on the headstock it'll either be under the little rear entry panel on the back or perhaps where the neck joins the body (which means unbolting the neck to find it). The other alternative is that it was on the neck 'somewhere' and the last 30 years use has worn it off... If you're trying to find the serial number to ascertain an exact manufacture date then you should be aware that the concensus is that Yamaha records that far back are pretty 'vague'...
Just find it ironic that a thread is started about someone getting dissed on Talkbass and our opinions on it, then the dude ends up getting dissed on here as well.
I have a sneaking suspicion that if it was discussed on flower-arranging.com he'd be dissed on there as well...

325a is immaterial (I guess some sort of manufacturer part number). 50KB translates to a 50KΩ Linear pot. Unfortunately, 50KΩ is not a preferred value so you're not going to find it in Maplins. RS do a suitable one here - but make sure the shaft is the same type as the broken one if you want to get the original knob to fit back on it
Has anyone imported amps from the usa? I really like the ampeg stuff that is coming out. I was just wondering what charges I would incur? What percentage is customs etc?
You'll be liable for import duty and VAT. I'm no expert but I the import duty is dependant on the value of the items you are importing. I looked into buying a custom built EUB from the US but the duty and shipping costs made it unfeasible before I even thought about adding VAT.
It seems to me like all of a sudden peops are prepared to pay big money for late 70s P Basses. Not so long ago there was broad consensus that late 70s Fenders were dreadful second rate instruments to play and sounded pretty poor too. So what changed? How come people are paying good money for them now?
Supply and demand perhaps? There probably aren't many early 70s PBasses on the market so maybe the market has decided that latter 70s PBasses are the thing to have. Give it 30 years and 2010 PBs will be highly sought after and probably a far safer investment than the average pension fund...

If I heard something like that on the radio I'd change channels straight away - it's a musical style that I really detest. However, if someone wants to play that style of music then they have every right to do so and should be supported in their endeavours. I do detect the rather unsubtle 'clip clop' of several pairs of feet under a bridge in that particular thread though...
I'm having problems connecting a HARTKE lh1000 via bridge mode to a barefaced cab. I have moved the slider over to bridge mode and the cable I have says NEUTRIK NL2FC LIECHTENSTEIN 1+ (It says exactly this on each end). When this is turned on and all connected there is simply no sound. Am I using the wrong type of speakon cable? I'm totally clueless about this.
It is an NL4 connector on the back of the amp (if you zoom in on the instruction manual it shows a little diagram on the back of the chassis). Using an +1 NL2 connector should be fine - NL2 connectors work in NL4 sockets (but not the other way round). So.... Make sure the Bridge Mode switch is slid to the right (when facing the rear of the amp). Beg/borrow/steal another Speakon +1 cable and see if that makes a difference. If none of that solves it then it sounds like you have an amp problem.
I've just got hold of a little giant 1000, I am using it with my 4 ohm schroeder 1212l cab. The pre amp stage on the head seems a little weak. How would I go about hooking up an external pre amp if I feel like I need more power, do I just go into the pre amp then straight into the input on the amp or do I have to do it via the effects loop? I haven't actually tried it at rehearsal yet, I have a feeling it will be plenty loud enough as is but just want to know just in case!!
You can't totally bypass the pre-amp by using the effects loop but the return socket on your Ashdown will bypass the EQ stage. I'm not an Ashdown user but many amps I've tried seem to be a bit 'weedy' at low volume levels and don't really start performing as intended until you hit a certain volume threshold. I wouldn't expect a company like Ashdown to release a product with anything less than a good pre-amp stage, so I strongly suspect that it'll be plenty loud enough once you start using it in anger...
A big PLUS vote for the MXR Bass DI+. It works a champ for things like that and you can really use it to fatten up your bass too.
Good for bass but the OP is only looking to use it on an acoustic guitar...
Our singer/guitarist admits he's technically challenged but knows he needs a DI box for his acoustic. An EQ would be useful too. Any suggestions for a reasonable quality box? Are these gizmos the same for bass and guitar?
The basic concept is the same for bass and guitar BUT only until you specify EQ needing to be included. The EQ range needs to be appropriate to the instrument you are using. I have been using a Fishman box for a few months now - reasonably priced, reasonable quality and (if your singer/guitarist wants to) come with a little belt clip thing to stop it trailing around the floor.
My Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 makes a brief squeak/ screech noise with just a tiny momentary dip in power from time to time Nothing to do with driving into clipping or input as it can happen when not even playing. Maybe a couple of times during a three hour practice session. Its not getting hot or doing anything odd otherwise. Any clues anyone? – I've been ignoring it so far...
Cooling fan on it's way out? That would be my first guess...
Hi All, a friend of mine is looking buy his first 'proper' bass amp - he's currently got an Ashdown after 8, but is now playing in a band with a proper drummer and everything, and needs something a whole lot louder. He's probably going to go for a 2nd hand HA3500 and is looking at a couple. One has 'Transient Attack' on the front plate, and the other doesn't. Anyone know the difference between these two? I'll try to post pics later on. Cheers guys 'n' gals.
The Transient Attack version of the HA3500 was the first one Hartke produced - they ditched the logo on later models. Details regarding its function are pretty vague though. Operating Manual for it is here

I thought Raynaud's syndrome was something triggered in sufferers during exposure to cold conditions rather than warm? Whatever it is, your first port of call needs to be your GP - don't worry about the music part until you know what the problem is!

One thing that just occured to me is that with NAMM being on there will be a lot of new models appearing and older models being cleared out. It might pay to hang fire for a few weeks and let the dust settle - there might be some bigger bargains on the way...
Really? I'd say it's a simple (if a little tedious) job suitable for someone with basic soldering skills upwards. And identifying the cathode and anode on an LED is electronics 101. I think it would be a very satisfying mod for a beginner.
Ok. My rationale for saying that is that the LEDs will be mounted on a PCB. They need to be desoldered and new ones fitted without damaging the PCB tracks (they lift off of the board if overheated). Although the round LED in your example has a 'flat' on one side, rectangular LEDs don't - their polarity is given away by lead lengths - those lead lengths will not be recognisable on the PCB as they will have been trimmed off to the same size during manufacture - easy to work that out if the person doing the job has some electronics experience but not so easy if they haven't. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "don't do it or the world will explode" but I felt it only fair to point out the potential problems that someone doing this mod could face...
Ok, I'm not wanting to start any arguments or anything (apologies to the OP for hijacking his thread) But after a quick google for speaker power handling and wiring etc, it seems that the general opinion is that adding each speakers rating together gives the total power handling however they are wired. Some people seem to say that wiring 2 100w speakers in series only gives you the power handling of 100w, as the signal travels through the first speaker and then the second. Whereas, in parallel, the signal is split between the 2, so each speaker receives half the signal. Therefore when wired in parallel, my 2 350w speakers can handle an amp of up to 700w.
I probably got it wrong then. Sorry 'bout that.
