There are two distinct reissue series currently in production, one made in Japan by APCS, the other made in Korea.
Singapore, Korea - same thing... unless you live there of course then it can get kinda confusing I guess
 2.
I see a Ric but I can't hear one.
I suspect the selection of guitar was more to do with colour co-ordination than musical accuracy... Without wanting to sound like a wine taster, it does have that punchy growl though - along with a lot of mid and dollop of "something else"...
 3.
The LH500 has a valve preamp but solid state power stage. It doesn't sound very "valvey" to me, but it does sound good. I've always rated Peavey gear for heavy-duty gigging but I haven't used that particular head. The Hartke I've been gigging for about 18 months and it has been totally reliable the whole time. I really like it.
I was supposed to have gotten rid of my Hartke head when I replaced it with the Peavey... I've gotten away with it so far but she's bound to notice eventually...
 4.
That does have a really nice burpy sound to it. Possibly a subtle envelope filter maybe? Answers on a postcard!
Burpy sound? A Flatulent Flanger maybe?
 5.
And all is great with the world again! Plugged into my Pandora via the line out and into my stereo and noise remained, took outer cover off and gave it the tap and jiggle test and still the same, plugged bass in and had a widdle and gradually it went away. Now starts and runs without a noise so I'm guessing it got damp and cold in my car, it was left in there last night too. As I said to MB1 in PM I'll sleep with it under my pillow from now on The spare amp will be with me at all times though!
Excellent news If you're feeling daring, it would probably be worth taking the cover off and just having a look at that input socket to see that it's clean, suitably springy against your jack plug and dry joint free...
 6.
Ah, Maplin. I spend far too much time and money in there. It looks like quite a bargain and it could be something i may investigate too.
I usually try and plan far enough ahead so that I can avoid them - I am not a great fan, they're far too much like the Tandy stores of yesteryear for my taste. They are useful for unexpected requirements though, provided you know exactly what it is you want and don't need any advice from the sales staff...
 7.
I played a gig on Friday at Babalou in Brixton with a provided backline that consisted, in my case, of a smallish TE combo DI'ed into the main PA. The passive input was taped over because (the sound guy said) the socket was broken, so I was a bit nervous that things would be OK with my Fender MIJ P-bass. I needn't have worried because the sound was awesome and really punchy and I was only running it a little over half levels. I've never used a TE rig before and know little about them, but based on this little outing I'm rather impressed. Thing is, I was smart enough to make a mental note to write down the model number, but stupid enough to actually forget to do it! The overall size seemed smaller than my Ampeg 1x15 combo, so I'd say it was probably a 1x12, but I suppose it could have been a 1x15. Is there anyone here, perchance, that might know what model combo it might have been?
Could have been a TE Commando 12 - it fits the description at least
 8. Wow! I managed a music shop back in the 80's and we did a PX against one of these. It's a long time ago but from what I remember of it... it was (obviously) a 15" bass reflex cab, built early to mid 1970s with a 200W 8Ω driver. I now feel like someone off of Antiques Roadshow
 9.
I've got a EBS HD350 on its way in as i'm trying to move back to what i use to have. I currently have an epifani ul210 cab and was wondering if anyone on here has paired up ebs & epifani. Ideally i'm looking for an EBS cab but if this set up works i'll probably keep the epifani as well.
Hi Jake, Not tried this but from a purely technical point of view it'll work although the HD350 isn't going to be big enough to drive the cab to it's full capability (it's a 300W amp and 500W cabinet).
 10.
....finally I have found a vid of the song and it seems the guy has a Rick'...not knowing anything about them and never seeing one singing funk before....is this sound normal, or maybe it's fretless or perhaps it has some aftermarket pick-ups, whatever I love the tone
Yeah, it's do-able up to a point. Looking at the age of the track (well, the clothes anyway!) there wouldn't have been any super clever effects around at the time like there are today but there's definately "something else" in there with the Ric. A subtly set autowah of some description would be my best guess.
 11.
I'm thinking of changing the preamp in my Shuker to a John East U Retro five knob deluxe. Anybody have any good / bad things to say about them before I blow my wad?
Only from a practical point of view - plan ahead and make sure there's enough room for the new board and controls before you start. I fitted a replacement board into one of my basses quite a few years ago, got annoyed because I couldn't get it all to fit into the body cavity and didn't pay attention whilst using a router. I still have a decorative scroll edge and zero sensation on one of my fingers...
 12.
You need to play the bass line stood on a Persian rug while the keyboard player stabs his Moog with a knife. So I'm not altogether surprised its not part of your repertoire, Dave
Damn I've got a rug from Ikea and the keyboard player still isn't allowed sharp shiny things and is using a wooden spoon
 13.
Its funny, because sometimes BC is becoming similar to Talkbass to my eyes - after a while, folks who come here to post 'a recognisable bassline', will post their favourite tunes instead, that have nothing to do with being easily recognisable.. Classic
LMAO - I'm having trouble just pronouncing some of the band names let alone recognising the bassline Got to say though, as far as favourites are concerned the two I have suggested: Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall - Pretentious 1980s trash and proof that bass players should never be let loose songwriting Grease - You're The One That I Want - Far too many Shoobydooowopwops and pelvic thrusts to be taken seriously by anyone I wouldn't dare share my favourites on here since the abuse I got after admitting to listening to Adrian Edmonson playing a mandolin
 14. I'm using the Tour 750 - same basic amp with a slightly larger back end on it. I totally agree with Chris that it has far too many knobs - I just set them to have the least possible damage to my sound and left them The octaver, as Chris has already intimated, is truly horrid - I switched it on just the once then quickly turned it off again and never revisited it. Two features I really find useful are the tuner output on the back of the amp and the Mute button on the front makes changing instruments a real doddle if you do that sort of thing. I haven't tried an LH5000 but I do have an HA3000 and a VX410 that I use in practices - still going strong after about 6 years and only one visit to the Samson service department in that time for a minor repair. My reason for choosing the Peavey was pretty simple, it did what I wanted, was cheap enough not to becomae excessively anal about it and their UK Service Centre is not many miles away from where I live and they can often do a "while u wait" repair job.

 16. Now about Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall" ?
 17.
does anyonr know why aria sb 1000s are 1400 pound on ebay but only 800 on mb music website..
The ones on Ebay are probably original 1980 SBs made by the renowned Mr Matsumoku in Japan. Aria have reissued the SB1000 and these are probably made by the unknown Mr LeeBloggs in Singapore
 18.
Got a Superfly on here a few months ago and despite some of the press it's been getting it's been mega reliable............until last night! I've just got my speakers upgraded and at the last couple of gigs the rig has really kicked ass but last night I set up as normal and when I switched on there was a dreadful crackling noise coming out, a bit like bad static but with added crackling. Now it's been in the boot of my car for a while so first thought was maybe it was damp, not a good combination. Luckily I had a spare amp with me although I could only drive one speaker as the ohmage was wrong for two. I'm just at the point where I was going to get a power amp and run the little bugger as a pre-amp as I love the sounds that it makes. I'm sort of guessing maybe a dry joint, I hope it's nothing too drastic as the plastic has taken a hammering getting my speakers sorted out. Just when I get things nearly sorted and bang, another problem! I'll get it looked at tomorrow probably, I was supposed to be trying it out with the power amp with the guy that upgraded my Acme and supplied my 1x15 but now I guess he has a repair job to do, but if any one has any suggestions (other that the usual dump it/burn it comments) let me know!
Few things you could try: 1) Substitute your amp<>speaker lead with another one. 2) Using your spare amp, try both speakers out and check it's not a poor connection in the speaker cabs. 3) Re-create the crackling noise setup (keep the volume down to a sensible level though!) and then try tapping along the front of the amp with the rubber end of a pair of pliers (something heavy but rubberised to prevent marking) - if you find a point where the crackling gets worse or better, then thats where your dry joint is. If you can discover where the dry joint is then you have the option of repairing it yourself for zero cost or getting someone else to do it and reducing the costs as you've already done the donkey work for them! 4) Try rotating the controls and perhaps give them a little "wiggle" up and down and side to side- the dry joint might reveal itself that way (then follow the latter part of item 3). Hope that might help - and I didn't even mention setting fire to it... I'll leave that to my more professional pyromanic colleagues...
 19.
no your right about that, I no it's cool not to like it, but it's a great line
I was in the pit on a live production of that quite a few years ago - easy bass lines, but extremely hard work to keep up with the tempo! It was "ok" but then I've never been cool
 20.
I did six years of spanking the tiny 6 string
21.
Well after the bass bash today, it safe to say my gas for a 5 string is gone. Don't know what it is but my mind turns to goop with an extra string. Btw thanks to those that let me and my grubby mits touch their expensive stuff. I'm toying with idea of either buying another ray or doing another project bass. If it was a project bass specs would follow: Ash jazz body, White. Delano J single coils (the ones with the MM style magnets) Some kind of 3 band preamp Status graphite neck. The necks the tricky part. I don't want a jazz, too small; and the P style necks I just don't along with. The ray version is what I want, and by the website the ray style neck should fit the neck pocket of a standard fender body, but it also says some gibberish about intonation. Anyway, my theory is the ray status neck would be fine on a a blank jazz body but I shouldn't drill the bridge down in the usual place. If that's right, where? Could I just take a measurement on my ray? Thanks guys.
Easy rule for correct intonation: The distance from the nut to the 12th fret must be equal to the distance from the 12th fret to the bridge. Is easys yes?
 22. Kinda loathe to suggest it but... "You're the one that I want" from Grease..?
 23.
There certainly are a lot being mentioned that the vast majority of people wouldn't have a clue about.
I can't even work out which is the band name and which is the song title on most of them!
 24.
By the sound of things the cabinet wasn't originally ported.
I misinterpreted what I read there and it just gets worse. So, if I've interpreted it correctly this time: Instead of the correct driver and a HF unit, it now has an incorrect driver, a hole where the HF unit used to be and a length of tubing in it's place that may or may not be the correct length to allow for volume displacement changes inside the cab which was originally a sealed unit anyway... My advice to the OP would be: put everything back the way it was when it left the Ampeg factory - at best it may start to perform the way you want it to, at worst you'll get the market value for it if you decide to sell it on and buy something different.
 25.
Ooeer! think I'll just tap my foot in a womanly fashion
Oh lordy... Is that the one that involves tapping the foot whilst holding a rolling pin in a clenched fist..?
