Having 'Fender' stamped on something is, unfortunately, no guarantee of quality. You really won't get anything better than a length of Klotz or Van Damme cable with Neutriks connectors on either end.
There's information about consumer rights of the retailer is unable to repair the goods (which should include the situation where continual repairs are needed) here: http://www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/webcontent/home/services/community+and+living/consumer+advice+and+protection/es-mw-tradingstandardsfaq#remain
I'm not sure what they are, but I do know there are some differences between Trading Standards in Scotland and England.

Bar Gigging, Why Do We Love It? / Why do We Hate It?
icastle replied to blue's topic in General Discussion
When I started out playing... erm... a few years ago, pub gigs were pretty much the norm for me. In the intervening years I've got used to bigger and better gigs. Times are harder now and, although I'm still playing the bigger and better gigs, I supplement them with pub gigs. Even with the smoking ban, I'd actually forgotten how much I hate going in pubs. -
As the first time it was sent for a repair and it clearly wasnt repaired could I argue for a replacement/refund?
It was repaired - just not to an acceptable standard. Without seeing the service notes there's no way of telling if the second fault was related to the first one. Looking at the time the amp has spent back at Laney, you could argue that for a disproportionate period of time of your 6+ months ownership, the amplifier wasn't in your possession - but that still only brings you back to repair\replace and that's at the retailers discretion. How about trying to come to a compromise with the retailer - something along the lines of they keep the Laney and replace it with goods to a similar value? Maybe even sweeten the deal by choosing more expensive goods and paying the price difference. That way neither of you are out of pocket.
-
I thought it was distance selling had the clear 4 week limit for returns without any reason needing to be given.
Yep, that's true. Returning goods 'face to face', as Weststarx is doing, is slightly different but the 4 week limit is the same. The pertinent headlines for this case are: If the goods are returned as faulty within the first 4 weeks of ownership he is entitled to a refund. After 4 weeks he is entitled to a replacement or a repair up to the 6 month point. After 6 months the options are limited to repair - this is where Weststarx is. Now, these are the minimum expectations of the Sale Of Goods Act and most savvy retailers will be doing more than the minimum requirements in order to keep the customer happy.
Although admittedly to me it's all a can of legalese so I'll take my oar out :-)
It certainly can be complicated. The Sale Of Goods Act was written in 1979 when 'plain English' wasn't a requirement.
-
I think that you should be able to go back to the shop you bought the item from and get a refund on the basis it is clearly not fit for purpose. It's come up before - the contract is between seller and purchaser, not manufacturer and end-user.
That only applies in the first 4 weeks.
-
Apparently Laney do not refund or replace an amp until it has broken down 3 times...
Don't get diverted by that. The Sale of Goods Act clearly states that the onus is on the retailer to remedy the situation. Go back into the shop and ask them what they are going to do about the situation. If you want to be fair, go back to the retailer, choose a new amp of a slightly higher ticket value and get them to accept the Laney as part payment for it.
If folks always included the term '5 string bass' in the description i would have thought the search engine at the top of the page would pull most of them out without having to go through all the 4's as well or doesn't it work?
Not really. The search function drills through the entire forum looking for '5 string'. Any mention of '5 string' (as in "I'd buy this in a shot if it was a 5 string") results in the topic being listed. -
Now that's something I never knew ... every time someone sends me a PM then they automatically hit my Profile page? That would be the "function of an algorithm" referred to earlier then.
Not every time. It depends where you are on the site when attempting to send a PM. On some parts of the site, hovering your mouse pointer over the username will give an option to send a PM, other parts of the site don't.
-
They're unique visits to your profile page. Some of them will be from curious readers and some of them will be where people have PM'd you and hit your profile page in doing so. Obviously, a small percentage will be axe murderers looking for their next target. Nothing to worry about.

Some nice ideas here, and it's not outside of the realms of possibility in the future perhaps, but we have to be realistic. To sort the data into model types would require people to enter that information in the first place. It's hard enough just getting people to enter a sane valuation price. -
Ah... I remember when basschat (or Bassworld as it was then) was closed down by the FBI. True story. Lol. The servers were in the States, and naughty people had been using them, so the Feds shut them down.
Just to clarify that just a little bit, the server hosting company (Pacific Hosting) were closed down for hosting illegal content alongside legitimate sites such as Bassworld. It's taken me quite a time to get used to living in South America.
I haven't done anything. I'm on iPhone.
Ah. There are plenty of documented issues with IOS 7 and earlier with DST and there are a few reports appearing regarding IOS 8. Certainly nothing to do with the BassChat infrastructure.
Fixed now.
Your PC wasn't set to DST?

Serious Question To Those Who Use A Full Stack

Serious Question To Those Who Use A Full Stack
icastle replied to MindGoneBlank's topic in Amps and Cabs
If it's venue appropriate I'll use a full stack. For the type of music I play, a full stack just ticking over has a degree of clarity than a combo struggling to keep up simply doesn't. It also brings the top cab up to a height where I can hear what I'm doing without having to rely on the monitor mix. Obviously, a Sunday lunchtime acoustic gig in Toad and Aardvark* isn't what I'd call 'appropriate'. *Other imaginary watering holes are available but generally contain nuts. -
You want an X2 suppression capacitor connected between the neutral and live terminals on the switch. Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1uf-1mfd-275Vac-X2-Suppression-capacitor-Iskra-KNB1560-73398-22-27-5mm-Pitch-/230939244786

Maybe he ought to reflect on 'My Generation'... Yes, the world is in a bit of a state, but the reality is... it always is. Walking around listening to 'serious' music isn't going to change that and if people get pleasure out of One Direction's brand of jolliness then so be it. Personally, I wouldn't touch it with a borrowed barge pole, but then I always was a miserable b*st*rd.
-
If it's happening with all three amps then you want to check the wall socket, extension lead (if used) and mains lead (if shared for all three amps). Something like this would do: http://www.websparky.co.uk/acatalog/Metrel-Tek-989-13-Amp-Socket-Tester-with-Buzzer-TEK989.html?gclid=CP_6ssi-0MECFQMIwwod6KEAlA

The fortunes of FMIC has been a slow and inexorable slide over a number of years and I think we're getting pretty close to 'crunch time'. They have 4 guitar models that work - Strat, Tele, Precision and Jazz. All these Mustangs, Jaguars and acoustic instruments are niche products and just don't belong in the portfolio. The Fender brand itself has been devalued by inexcusable QA issues, manufacture outsourcing and the Squier brand which, if what I'm reading on BC is true, performs almost as good as US Fender stuff. Add to that the lack of a half decent amplification range for donkeys years and it's no wonder they're floundering. I don't know how FMIC work, but I do know how businesses fail and there should be some seriously worried execs sitting in the board room.
