1. Van Damme or Klotz are two of the better ones.
2.
You'd think that would be the sensible thing to do, wouldn't you? But nah, they cocked it up.
What a truly pointless acquisition that was. $120M to buy a whole pile of 'all but dead' brand names and the one jewel in the crown that they could have used to replace their mediocre amp range gets shelved. I won't be hugely surprised to see FMIC up for sale again in the near future - isn't it CBS's turn to own it again?
3.
What a ridiculous situation it is to not be able to buy new Genz amps and cabs! Fecking Fender.
I thought that Fender were just taking the existing amp models and then rebadging them as Fender? It's not hugely subtle, but it'll be the first time a Fender badged bass amp has been of giggable quality for quite a few years.
4.
What are the handles like?
They're a bit of a let down really. They're recessed and, try as I might, I just cannot get bruised shins.
5.
This would explain why the server clock hasn't changed yet then.
Well I posted a test message in one of the Mod forums at 14:34 (according my PC clock) and it's showing 14:34 on the forum.
6. If you put lighter strings on your bass they don't pull the neck forward as far - you'll probably have to loosen the truss rod by a couple of turns as a good starting off point.
7. Warwick have just bought out the WCA LW115 CE cab. It's the same basic design as the earlier WCA LW115 (300w) but is now fitted with a 500w Celestion driver. They're not hugely trendy, but I've been using a WCA LW115 as part of my rig for a few years now and they're well built and certainly cut through the overall stage sound nicely.
8. Well the crossover is the first thing that's in the firing line of the signal, so hopefully it's just that that's been fried. However, I'd be very wary at using the amp again until it's been checked out.
9. It's working fine here as well. It's something local to your PC.
10. If we're talking purely about listening, I'm a total snob.
11. Now you have a working one, compare the wiring with the original one - they're only screw terminals and you might end up with a working spare.
12. Hondo were distributed in the UK by John Hornby Skewes Ltd. They were a step up from the Kay guitars which pretty much dominated the low end market back then, but not by much. There's every likelihood that it was produced in Korea unless its more than 30 years old.
13. I play in several bands and am closer to some of the members than others. My friends are, generally, those who have a similar outlook to me and I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'm probably not unique in knowing hundreds of people, not knowing hundreds of people who know me but only having a handful of friends.
14.
Getting a bit too close to the edge of the stage while rather enthused and finding I was suddenly flat on my back about two foot below stage level. I never missed a note
+1 Perhaps we should join forces and see if we can do it formation style.
15.
Ah, my mum's just the same - and she's seventy-six, you know.
16. Black trousers, black boots, white collarless shirt. I've been wearing the same sort of outfit for over 30 years - I don't want the tedium of deciding what to wear.
17. Neutrik plugs and Klotz or Van Damme cable for me every time. I've always made my own up but I seem to have a vague recollection that there might be someone here called OBBM who could do that for you if needed...
18. Electronic theory says this is OK, but in practice you can't just wallop any old speaker into a wooden box and expect it to work to it's optimum.
19.
On the positive side of this: It may attract criticism, but possibly fewer thieves!! Perhaps shoddy finishes should be re-marketed as "Thieve Repelling". (not saying that Barefaced are shoddy - I've never seen one.
There is always that.
20. It may sound fickle, but the reality is that it doesn't matter how good a cab sounds - if it looks cheaper than the alternatives then it's always going to attract criticism.
21. I know that I've come up with basslines only to discover, at a later date, that it was based on something I'd half heard and forgotten years before - after all, how many of us bother remembering rubbish basslines?
22.
There isn't an issue. Pete simply asked what it's worth because we'll never know due to it not being an auction listing. I explained what I think I would pay but that its hard to know what the item's 'value' is when we'll never see what it sells for...
I know. I was agreeing with you but didn't word it particularly well.
23.
God knows what it's actually worth though!
We see that all the time here in the Marketplace forums. The market will dictate the value of the item and, if the seller wants sell, the price will be reduced until it does. I don't really understand what the issue is...
24. As far as mods go, it's not bad. At least whoever has added that J pup hasn't used a blunt chisel and a club hammer like some of the examples that appear with disturbing regularity.
25. Are you sure it was a musical swing group?
