i fixed this problem on one of my basses with a small shims of plasticard under the exposed worm gear.
I generally use a little felt strip with a smear of Vaseline on the side that presses against the worm gear.

Whats your one bass that you couldn't live without
icastle replied to birdy's topic in General Discussion
My Ibby SR-505. Plays and sits so nicely that it becomes an extension of 'me' instead of something that dangles off a strap while I play it. -
What happened to our old friend, I haven't managed to find any of his work recently, or is this now a bit like discussing Rickenba*kers - very non PC?
You can discuss Rickenbackers as much as you like - there are several long running threads about them on here. As for the 'old friend', Douglas has summed it up succinctly.
Hi, I figured it out. I'm doing some work for a client which needs me to connect to their VPN which forces my browser to use a proxy server. When this is enabled, I don't get any of the toolbars, I guess some scripts are being blocked!
Ah right, I wondered how you'd got on. The toolbar is, as you've probably already worked out, javascript based and uses multiple .js files. It'd only need one particular file to be blocked on the proxy and the whole lot fails.

It's probably the easiest option. A two pole socket will only properly accept a two pole plug. Before anyone disagrees with that statement, check the Neutrik specs. A four pole socket will accept either a four pole or two pole plug.

Bongo pot shaft broken. Quickest fix?
icastle replied to BassTractor's topic in Repairs and Technical
Another +1 for replacing the pot. Bodge jobs are fine when you've no other options available but using them as a matter of course is just saving up a disaster for later. -
The link was malformed, I've fixed it now. EDIT: I think you're setting the DMX channel wrong. All of the DMX lights we use have 'd' showing when we change DMX channel numbers and 'p' when we're selecting an inbuilt program.
And as there were 700,000 births in the UK last year, 5% is a very significant number!
Very significant. Looks like we're gonna need to add another disk to the server...

How about using these as bolts instead? http://www.accuscrews.co.uk/knurled-thumb-screws/21253-SKT-M6-8-A1.html?gclid=CITgzonr48ACFc7HtAodwgUARA

Complete and utter tosh from start to finish
icastle replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Oh deary me. Looking on the plus side, at least it's a one off. -
If I were you, I'd put the nail varnish in the holes before you screw them back on. No need to thank me ... More seriously, I wouldn't use nail varnish. What you want (IMHO) is http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/pipe-thread-sealants/0514509/?origin=PSF_435926|alt
You're totally right. I was trying to keep it simple because those little grub screws can be a right sod to get back in once you've taken them out.
Requires total focus on diary balancing.
+1 That's definitely the secret. I use a Google diary that I make available to all the bands I play in and musicians I work with. They book the time slots they want and all accept that it's first come first served. I've only had one booking clash in the last three years and that just took a couple of calls to reschedule and everyone was happy.

The white wire goes to the shortest of the three connectors. The black wire from the battery goes to the middle sized connector. The remaining black wire goes to the longest of the three connection points. EDIT: If it's been left wired up wrong then the battery could well be shot, so if the above doesn't work - try changing the battery as well. HTH

Personally, I absolutely hate playing flatwounds on bass guitar. To me, they feel wrong, lack the response I'm used to and just don't have the sound I am used to using. That's not to say I don't appreciate other people wanting to use them and would never get all tediously militant about it, but I'd rather undergo elective surgery myself.

But I don't want the new U2 album on my phone :-(
icastle replied to malbass's topic in General Discussion
Well, regardless of the general dislike for U2 here, they are Irelands biggest rock 'export' since Thin Lizzy and there will be a lot of people doing the happy dance tonight after being given access to this freebie. It's not been downloaded to your device though. It's being hosted on iCloud and a link to that has been added to your iTunes account. That's what happens when you start using hardware and software in a closed environment. The cynic in me is muttering stuff about 'chart manipulation' and 'guaranteed number one slots'. -

Problems hearing myself playing live....
icastle replied to John Cellario's topic in General Discussion
You're probably standing too close to your bass rig - shove it right back as far as you can get it and make sure you're standing as far forward as you can get. Ignore the 1x15, just make sure your 2x10 is pointing at you, if it's not, twist it so it is. I always find that the monitors are far too loud, yes, you need to hear what everyone else is doing, but not so much that you lose track of what you're doing. Ask for your monitor to be turned down. If that request falls on deaf ears, point it at someone else or unplug it. -
Knobs with grubscrews always work loose - screw them back on and put a little blob of clear nail varnish in the screw hole. Rubber handles have broken like this since ever they were invented, but they're dead cheap and take only minutes to replace. These items have been superseded by more modern equivalents, but any manufacturer making amps to reflect a certain era, as Orange do, have their choices kinda limited.

Four gigging bands at the moment, one almost ready to and a handful of regular recording projects that I provide various 'musical services' to.

Well... nothing has been changed at this end, and nobody else has reported having this particular problem, so it's pretty likely to be something local to your PC. My first instinct would be to: 1) Clear my cache and try again. 2) Reset Chrome to it's default settings, clear my cache again then try again. I'm guessing that one of the above will fix it, but if it doesn't then my next step would be to uninstall Chrome then reinstall it.
Now all we need is for someone to explain why my PDF has been converted into an IDB, and how you're supposed to open it ...
And here I am. There's a strange quirk with the forum software that changes the file extension on PDFs. All you do is download and rename the file extension to 'pdf' instead of 'idb' and it'll open just fine.
