A Basschattering.
Uh-oh. I think I must be the only one on the entire forum who doesn't like Snarky Puppy.
Don't worry, I thought it was one of those alchopop things until I looked it up.

Me.

It should be. I bought a Hiscox PB case for my SR505 and it fitted fine - the case you're looking at fits a PB as well.

Another satisfied GAK customer here. I bought a Line6 HD750 from them and it was the biggest heap of cr*p I'd ever played. Got straight on the phone to them and they arranged to get a Peavey T750 delivered the next morning and collect the HD750 at the same time. No quibbling, no mucking about, no 'I've got to get authorisation' rubbish - the whole thing was sorted out in one two minute phone conversation.

Crikey, it doesn't seem like 35 years!

How to survive as a musician without a 9-5 normal job?
icastle replied to britpoprule's topic in General Discussion
Perhaps you're in the wrong business then, love?
I definitely am, but with no FT work I can't afford to hold on to 'artistic integrity'. -
Going back to this point briefly, it's more likely that a music-related job will kill the dream - In the sense that to make money you will probably need to be involved with styles and genres of music you wouldn't be into given the choice, or be involved in teaching etc when you don't particularly like doing that.
+1 At best I get to play stuff that I could take or leave, but generally I play types of music that I absolutely loathe. I'm a good actor. -
What sort of Japanese instruments?
Various Aria SB's for about 5 years and then moved over to Ibanez about 20 years ago and haven't found a reason to move.

My worst one was slicing through the back of my left thumb with a scalpel the afternoon before a gig - at a hospital social club. The stitches held for about 30 mins and I finished the first set with blood dripping off my elbow. The guitarist was an A&E Charge Nurse, so he whipped me over there and stitched me back together during the interval and used a silly amount of sticky tape to hold it all together. I still have a slight scar there, but it did the job nicely.
Not wishing to put down what was clearly a brave effort to ensure the show did go on despite immense personal discomfort - and all credit and respect for that btw - but was there really much of a health risk involved, in the sense of risking permanent health implications as a result?
Two words - John Glascock.

I bought a Precision when I first starting playing seriously but moved over to Japanese instruments within five years and have pretty much stayed there ever since. I did compromise a few years ago and bought a JB as a placatory instrument, for those who insist I 'have to use a Fender', but do find it a rather uncomfortable thing to play.
Two Ampeg 810 stacks gets my votes - silver cloth of course.
...and a stepladder to reach the on\off switch?

How to survive as a musician without a 9-5 normal job?
icastle replied to britpoprule's topic in General Discussion
I made a living as a musician when I was in my 20's. It was hard work, but it paid the bills and bought me my first house. Thirty years on and I'm in a position where I have had to go back to that again. It's so much harder now than it was then and I supplement my earnings doing building, agricultural, gardening, IT, teaching and whatever other opportunity I see. Musically, I play in three bands and a duo, dep and session work is ticking along nicely and I'm in the process of forming another band to grab a share of a musical genre that the others don't cover. -
Loads of energy, some interesting rhythms and clever harmonies. Like it.
I saw the bass guitar with a pro covers band fitted with an XLR socket some time ago. I don't know too much about BGs; is this generally done? Seems a good idea if you can accommodate the bulkier socket.
Well they're a better connector insofar as they won't wear out as easily and will latch into position. On the negative side, you'll have to make space for it and if you bust a lead you're not going to be able to just grab one easily from any old music shop. Realistically, if you use a decent socket and decent leads then a jack socket will last for many years.

Gig promoters and the "pound per head" policy
icastle replied to topheteatwo's topic in General Discussion
I did find this '£1 per head policy' in a contract my band were sent late last year. Only two of us have 'touring band' experience, and that was with fixed payment for the tour with transport and accommodation provided. We discussed the contract for at least 30 seconds (5 if you exclude the swearwords) before dropping it in the bin and I'd advise anyone who gets asked to sign a contract like this to do the same. It's not a UK wide policy, it's a greedy individual trying to make a lazy buck. If they were a real promoter then they'd have actively marketed the band, if they only found three people to come to the gig then they obviously didn't. They'd also have agreed a minimum fee - after all, a promoter who gets a reputation for paying bands out of loose change isn't going to find many people prepared to work for them. Not much you can do about it once it's happened so the best advice is to never put yourself in that position again. -
Justin Timberlake Bassist change - who's the guy?
icastle replied to Faithless's topic in General Discussion
Gents, It stands to reason that if you quote a post that has been removed for having libellous content then your post will be pulled as well. That's not a reflection on your content so don't take it personally. -

Sorry folks but I've tidied this thread up as we don't host libellous content. -
PS, leaving a 1u gap above an amp, can actually be a negative move. For example, the airflow from a poweramp that has front to back cooling, can end up pumping air in from the front and then drawing (the warmer) air in from the top of the amp back into the front...
It can, but I have a blanking panel in the space.

I have three racks. One for bog standard stuff - rack effects unit and an amp (3U). One for bigger gigs - rack effects unit, tuner and bigger amp (4U). During the summer I do quite a few outdoor festivals and have a bigger rack for that which holds all of the above and a wireless receiver. (7U - I leave a 1U gap between the amps to help cooling.) I have a choice of 2x10, 4x10 and 1x15 cabs so I just mix and match as I need to. Everything is prewired so I just plug a single mains lead in and run a speaker cable out and I'm ready to play.

Input jack corroded - might this be the cause of sound issues?
icastle replied to Jigster's topic in Repairs and Technical
Any corrosion or floating bits of metal is bad news. If the jack socket is corroded and disintegrating then replacing it would certainly be a good starting off point - they're only a couple of quid. -
One of the first jobs I had on leaving college some 30 years ago was in music retail. There were shops renowned for their surliness and complacency even back then, and that's without the internet spreading the word.
Remember asking TC the same question but on a bh500 head. If you ar using TC cab you can run two 4ohm cab tha means yu can run your internal cab and a 4ohm TC cab. I don't think you can run a non TC 4ohm cab because your amp is a 4ohm load. The magic only work on TC cab.
TC amps are the exception, but this is an Ampeg head we're talking about here. I'm not sure if there's any 'magic' involved in TC stuff or if the tolerances of the amp are perhaps a little tighter than other manufacturers. Whichever it is, it certainly focusses TC owners attention on TC cabs.

Bending the contact back will work, but every time you bend it the weaker it gets and the sooner you'll have to bend it back again. Do it once to get you out of trouble, but get it replaced properly ASAP because I can guarantee it'll fail at the most inopportune moment.
