1. Machine head collar?
 2. There's a service manual here: http://elektrotanya.com/trace-elliot_gp12smx_pre_amp_t0600_sm.pdf/download.html Looking at the circuit diagram of the area around the Standby switch (first diagram, RH side near the bottom), there's not much that can go wrong there. However, you could potentially get some noise if the capacitor (C107 on the diagram) is faulty. HTH
 3.
i probably should have said that i knew it wasnt the main tube, it looked like small versions. sorry
No problem. Good luck with the repairs.
 4.
I've suggested open mic nights, but I get the 'oh well I'd rather use my guitar rig' excuse. I've been offered a little half hour support slot which is again met with the same excuse.
I always use my own gear if I'm playing at an open mic night. It's never a problem, I just get there early and get myself setup so as not to cause any disruption.
 5. I believe it uses a single ECC83 (also known as a 12AX7). Dead easy to source them, just stick 'ECC83 UK £' into Google and it'll throw back page after page of places selling them.
 6. The new content tab doesn't work particularly well, but only sometimes it seems. It's already on the list of 'things to fix'.
 7. The other thing of course is that they might actually be frightened of gigging - it takes a fair bit of courage to stand there in front of an audience for the very first time. I stood behind a brick pillar on my first gig - all the audience could see was my right elbow and bass headstock. Many people say that I should readopt that performance method... Perhaps persuade them to go to a plug and play night somewhere and just do two or three songs?
 8.
Every song will get boring when you've been playing it for 10months without a gig.
Every song will get boring when you've been gigging it for 10 months.
 9. If you're using a metal jack socket then it'll earth the scratchplate at the same time (the threaded 'tube' is 'earth' anyway). If you're going to do that then I'd recommend using a dap of thread lock on the socket before doing the nut up - after all, if it shakes loose then you've got no earth.
 10.
Do I leave for musical reasons and risk losing some good friends? Or put up with it?
Personally, I'd call it a day, but I have a high reliance on performing. There is another option though, why not try and find some middle ground? Start looking around for another band that does gig and move the first band into 'meeting up with mates to play some stuff' status. After all, if your existing band doesn't gig then there's little chance of a diary clash.
 11.
In what way was the thread being abused? ?
From recollection, it was full of sales ads - something that we don't tolerate in other threads. As I said earlier, I did try and move the non sales threads into a 'clean' thread, but it was taking ages and made the whole thing nonsensical.
And wouldn't a standalone section containing separate threads be easier to manage and protect from abuse, whatever that may be? Why not try creating this new subforum, seeing that the lefty minority is requesting one.
That's not my call.
 12.
A lot of things have changed since the stricter forum rules for everyone so to single out lefties as 'abusers' is bizarre.
I did not 'single out lefties as abusers', those are your words, not mine. The thread had been abused and it was removed in the same way that any other thread on here would be.
I was one of a few asking for a new lefty thread at the time and why not?
And as I have already said, we were already working on it.
I wonder if a dedicated thread would still be up for discussion if Sir Paul McCartney were to become a member? Haha.
Yes it would. We do not have the resources to just create forums on demand.
 13.
It never used to be there though..... Did it?
Only for the last year.
 14.
For what it is worth, as a Forum mod I can't do it on my own listing so I think it is a case of updating in the title and the main body of the text. I reserve the right to be corrected by an Admin but as said it has indeed come up before.
Nope, that's spot on. The un-editable price field is a system generated one. Forum Mods, Global Mods and even Admins can't edit that field.
 15.
I didn't know that...
Neither did I !
 16.
Just remember that the people running this forum DID remove the lefty thread and it wad only after protests that it and the dedicated for sale section were re-instated.
Funny the way that we remember things. I seem to remember that the thread was removed because it was being abused. I recall one person kicking up a stink about it, but I didn't pay much attention as we were already in agreement that we'd create a new thread and move any posts that weren't in breach of the T&Cs into it. I can also remember there being so few of those that I just decided to start again with a blank slate.
Get it done please!
We are currently discussing whether this is a viable proposition.
 17. I just use Rotosounds. I've used better but they're OK for what they are and I don't expect miracles from the cheapest set of strings in the shop. I wipe them down after using them and as they start to dull down, I just nudge the highs up on my EQ.
 18.
Sometimes things like this will want average people who blend into the background, leaving the focal point being the actual act. It may not seem right, but that`s occasionally the way life is.
^ This.
 19. This reinforces my default answer of 'No' whenever the topic of gear sharing raises it's head, both on here and IRL.
 20. I've always found 'off the shelf' Jazz Basses to be a little bit thin and weedy, mine is no exception. I just stuff one of these in the signal path. http://www.fishman.com/product/b-ii-for-acoustic-bass
 21.
I've heard that ibanez stock preamps are pretty sh**ey and I must agree.
Without wishing to be funny, you're basing that on a bass that was retailing at £300? There are limits to what a manufacturer is going to supply at that price point. Go up into the SR range, which has a different preamp, and you'll struggle to find anyone complaining about them.
Not much adjustment or colour. Can anyone recommend me an upgrade? At circa £100, what could one achieve?!?!
In reality, very little because of other limitations. You could spend £100's on pre-amps and pickups and still not get the sound you're after. You'd probably get a far quicker, cheaper and flexible result by buying a Graphic EQ pedal.
 22.
Im going with the pixies!
Is that 'going with' or 'away with' ?
 23. Well if it's an old desk then it might just be age catching up with it. Transformers have a finite life and there may have been a damaged component in the mixer for years which finally gave out. It could also simply be that the pixies are unelfy and just wanna go gnome.
 24.
How many people are you trying to message?!
If it's his fan club... 29,194.
 25.
It's quite simple to get the devs to add a tag to the page headers to request IE10 compatibility mode - I suggest you guys look into this.
I looked into this a while ago but didn't pursue it very far. As soon as you start customising COTS packages you begin to complicate future upgrade paths because some code gets overwritten whilst some doesn't. That then potentially leaves you with a pile of poo to sort out, and whilst I've earned good money doing that over the years, I wouldn't like to see that pile of poo happen to BC. 'Off Topic' is bad enough. We appear to be getting close to upgrade time anyway, so hopefully we won't have these browser issues for much longer. Reference 'fixing' a document emulation mode, there is a registry setting for it, but AFAIK nobody has stumbled on the appropriate values as yet and Microsoft just aren't saying.
