  1. I'm gonna put my MarloweDK in at some point to get the string height a bit lower. I've tried all i can think off but the E string saddle is bottomed out with just a very slight lift with the screws to keep saddle flat of the base. G string much the same. Neck is almost straight with very slight curve. If i lower any more i get string buzz. If i make the neck any straighter i get fret buzz at 4th / 5th frets. String height at 12th fret on E is approx 2.2 - 2.3mm. My VM4 and Geddy Jazz are 1.5mm and i can feel the benefits with that little lower action. Dont get me wrong i'm gigging with the Marlowe and it sounds great in the punk band but i just feel it should have a better action than it does. Action was 3mm on 12fret E string when i got it. I think it either needs shimmed which surprises me as it must have been like that when it left Sandberg or something done to lower the saddle heights but not sure that's possible ? I'll let an expert sort it out. I'll use Chris from McIntyre Guitars in Edinburgh. I've already mentioned my P bass issue but he was very busy at the time so i decided to hang off a bit. Dave
  2. I've stored that Handbox historical fact in my file for useless information where i keep most of my brain. Its a small file for a tiny brain. Dave
  3. You've got it made Blue, Limo picks you up for the gig plus you get to play my perfect venue. HD Museum. I'm drooling. Dave
  4. Obviously its a safety thing. If no one working there's no risk of injury. Job done. Dave
  5. That would be a walk in the park for you guys doing a 1.5hr set instead of 3-4hr gigs. Dave
  6. The GB Streamliners didn't altho it was a while ago when i had one. Dave
  7. I'm guessing the internal time consuming changes were seperate boards for things possibly being combined to one main pre-amp board and then a power board. Possibly using interconnecting plugs etc rather than soldered connections between boards. That's just my own thoughts and opinion and not from HB. As for the Contour thing being more popular in US i'm not sure i'd agree as the US amps i've had didn't have a contour knob that i can recall. (Ampeg, Mesa, Genz) The GK 1001Rbii might have had a contour but cant remember. Dave
  8. Did Leszek say the name has gone back to Handbox rather than HB ? Not seen anything in the pics i've seen so far. ? Not that it bothers me too much .... just curious as to how its gonna look in the final product. Dave
  9. And my name is on one of them. My real name is WB-100. Looking forward to getting it and all thanks to your reviews @wateroftyne Cheers matey Dave.
  10. Had that last week leaving Glasgow on the main M8. In middle of Glasgow the cones appeared on outside lane closing off all 3 lanes and diverting to M80 to Stirling. I was heading South to M74 and overhead signs said "M8 Closed" that was all it said with no signs of diverted route anywhere to be seen. Travelled along M80 for 9 miles until i saw a road i recognised that took me to M73 and back down to M74. I appreciate roadworks are needed but the diversions need to have signs up telling people where to divert to and not left wide open. Had i not recognised the roads at Cumbernauld i could have ended up at bloody Stirling. Finally made it to M74 only for signs appearing road closed after Larhall junction which is 15 miles before my usual exit. Once again another diversion from a main motorway route. I feel sorry for overnight truck drivers who have schedules to keep. Anyway a journey that normally takes me an hour took me 2 hrs. Had i known the motorway was closed before i got onto it in Glasgow i could have taken other routes out of the city centre. That my nightly rant over chaps. Dave
  11. You Fool No One with that one. I believe he was a Folder of Four Tunes
  12. I preferred the re-incinerated version playing Burn with Glenn Pughes.
  13. The hard part is finding like minded people. A lot of bands start of with the best of intentions, a lot of excitement and everyone being enthusiastic but as time progresses towards gigs you start to realise some people aren't so keen now and you get a drop in commitment. Sometimes its because they enjoy rehearsing and the thought of being in a band but dont like gigging. Usually by the time you find out you've already invested a lot of time and money. Oh well that's bands for you. Dave
  14. I find the winging it attitude works in Blues type bands ok but not in any other type of music............well maybe some sort of free jazz kinda music but not your typical pub band. Dave
  15. No it was the band with Ian Plaice and John Lourdes
  16. Both bands i'm in take the music seriously but it still needs to have a fun element and be enjoyable. People will be paying good money to see the Glam band so that's probably a bit more serious. I learn songs as close to originals as i can, i write out the bass part for every song from the outset and that's used as the reminder to everyone how its played. I've been in bands where people (usually guitarists) turn up for rehearsals and think they can just wing it. That's my sign to get out and find like minded musicians. The Glam band started from scratch (4 of us), we agreed a set list to work on and picked the first 4-5 songs to learn for the first rehearsal to see how we got on. It worked and from there it was 3-4 songs every week. Everyone put the same effort in and we made great progress very quickly getting tighter as we worked together. I regard rehearsals as work, i put the effort in beforehand and its about tighting things up and sorting out the finer points like endings etc. The punk band was already gigging and i was given the set and 3 weeks later we were gigging. Both bands put the effort and i enjoy working with like minded people. Dave
  17. Like everyone with a mobile these days it'll get blamed on "bloomin preferential txt". We all do it.
  18. Do you have two of them Sorry couldn't help it, your post has shown twice ? Dave
  19. Yep that is one very nice looking bass. I can see why he wanted it but agree you should keep it. Onceyou find "the bass" you should never sell it. Dave
  20. Thankfully i'm not a "Theorist" cause i'm lost in this techiness of the speaker world now. Its nice to know some of you out there understand all of this to keep us numpties on the right path to true bass nirvana. Dave
  21. Pics of the Kingbass would be nice if you dont mind sharing just to give me an idea of what it looks like. Dave
  22. Thought my fingers were getting better but punk gig last night proved me wrong. No blisters but tips are a bit tender. Got some in my garage and gonna try this tip to see how it goes. How long do you steep them. ? Dave
  23. Wee pub gig with the punk band last night 6-9pm slot. Great time to play as i get to kebab shop before i get home. Only downside is that i need to leave the house at 3pm to get to the gig for set up. Audience size varied thru the night from half full to busy and back to half again towards the end. Everyone seemed to be enjoying it. Standing very close to amp meant i couldn't hear my tone properly but it sounded ok on Vids that have appeared. Has anyone else noticed that with many mobile phone vids the bass drops out a bit when the vocals start. I'm guessing the phones have some sort of built in limiter/compression of some kind.
  24. WOW just WOW. Now that's a proper bass rig. Had it been a bit closer and i hadn't ordered a Handbox WB-100 i would definitely have looked into this altho i just need the amp. At that price its a bargain for the amp alone. All the best with the sale Dave
