What's the amp you're using. Can make out the Ampeg and GK cabs but not the amp. Dave

100W Stoneham valve amp - small footprint, lighter weight
dmccombe7 replied to Merton's topic in Amps and Cabs
100% agree. Its great to see a UK manufacturer taking this on. Bass amps that bass players actually want rather than what the companies think they want. Huge respect to @Stoneham for doing it and joining in the discussion to keep us informed. If only all bass amp companies could be like this. Dave 👍 -

100W Stoneham valve amp - small footprint, lighter weight

Something i have seen recently is the Traynor all valve range that have a really nice feature that should a valve go down the amp shuts down that set of valves and allows you to continue the gig albiet at lower volume. I can see that being a big advantage with the larger 300W all tube head but the 100W head might be too much of a volume drop but i like the idea that the amp will keep running. They also have a bias control on the rear of the amp with led's to show correct biasing. That would also be a nice feature to have. Dave -

Yep i clocked that too. Was a bit surprised to say the least and not something i'd buy at that price. Dave -

Now that's a bit better than the one i saw which was like a mirrored front panel. I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread. Have to say that i like the look of the HB WB-100 with the metal front and wooden case. It combines modern with traditional really well. An all metal case for a full valve amp i'm not 100% sold on but once i see the final product that could change. Its great to see UK companies stepping up to the plate and producing an amp that bass players want rather than what the companies think they want. All credit to Stoneham for taking this on. Big plus from my point of view. Dave -

I'm interested altho i prefer the more modern look of the Handbox WB-100 to the Ashdown or the 1200 amp shown above. For me the HB valve amp has already been up and running and shown to be more than loud enough as a gigging amp and i'd be wary of taking an unproven amp. By the time this project gets up and running i may already have my WB-100 that i've registered interest with Handbox. Also price will play a major part if comparing against the HB WB-100. Also my cabs are approx 19" wide too and dont want an overhang if i can help it. Will follow this post very closely. Dave -
No comment. I have my reputation to keep Dave

I laughed anyways even with a spalling mistook it was still a wee laughable moment albiet at @Max Normal expense. Hope he saw the funny side too. Dave

If its the same band i found they have a gig tonight in The Railway. What bit were you reading @EBS_freak i cant find it. Dave

It wont come to much with that guys attitude. Making a successful gigging tribute band takes a lot of dedication and hard work and by sound of it he isn't really suited to that. Rehearsals are for fine tuning the songs and ironing out any little nuances a band has, not to teach a new guitarist / keys player how to play. That annoys the heck out of me when members waste time at rehearsals. I view rehearsals as work, head down bum up and i'm there to get things done with occasional coffee breaks during a 6hr session. Sorry to hear this particular band didn't work out for you but you've done it once, best get back into it right away and show those tw**s how its done. All the best with the next project where i'm sure you'll be happier. Dave

What band was it ? No comment on the venue name or is that the band name. The Pink Torpedoes Dave

Now that's a fantastic bass rig. Nice bass too. Dave

Too true. Dave

I liked the flats on my Sandberg VM4 but guitarist wanted a more aggressive sound for the Sweet songs we did so that ruled them out. We have a new guitarist now so might go back to them. I could put them on my P bass tho see how it sounds. Dave

I know Ashdown are producing a physically small all valve amp head but no idea what the price will be. The CTM 100 would be too wide for my Mesa cabs and cause an overhang. I'd prefer my amp to be same or less width than cabs otherwise the CTM might have been an option for me. Liking your tone tho. Dave

Sounding good Dave. Is that just the amp i'm hearing. Lot of nice depth and clarity with some really nice bass playing there. Band sounds top class. Enjoyed that. Dave
