Had a GK 1001rbii but couldn't get a decent sound i liked from it. I think we digress from the OP a bit. Apologies for that. Dont think i've ever been fired altho back in early 80's i had auditioned for another band and accepted and my mates found out and said they had asked another bassist to take over. Not sure that constitutes being fired but i've left quite a few bands LOL Dave

HB WB-100 will be my main amp with the Mesa as a back up just in case. I like to take a small portable head with me just in case. You just never know when a tube amp might fail on you. I had a few issues with the Mesa last year but tech just gave everything a clean and seemed ok but master pot is getting a bit worn he says. Problem is he couldn't locate a spare for it from Mesa. I think the Mesa is more versatile than the Orange all valve head but the full valve tone is so nice. I originally looked at the HB R400 until i heard the WB-100 and at only £200 more plus VAT and import tax its worth getting what i really fancy. That way i have the Mesa hybrid and all tube HB. Dave

Will always keep my Mesa Mpulse but waiting on the Hanbox WB-100 amps to be upgraded and my name is on the list to get one hopefully soon. All valve HB head. Cant say i've ever heard of Cornford amps tho. I'll need to pick up a class D as a back up but not sure what to get. Will need to be a cheapie tho. I have the MB Nano thing but its only 200 class D watts so not exactly the loudest of amps. Did see a nice Eden 500 on here yesterday at a good price. Dave

To be honest i've never heard of Cornford Amps. I;ve heard of the first 2 bassists but dont really know much about them but i am def a Geddy fan. Mate let me use his Orange all valve amp (1970's version) into his 810 cab which i think was a Hartke cab. I was blown away with the tone using my Geddy Jazz. Full, thick and warm but nice and defined. Its what put me onto getting another all valve head again. Something a bit lighter than an Orange tho. HandBox WB-100 i'm currently waiting on. Dave

Why the Ampeg SVT Classic. ? I bet they had Marshall stacks No guitarist should be telling any bass player what amp to use. They dont have the intelligence to make such statements. Maybe once they have their brain refitted to the head area they can make suggestions. Dave

I draw a line at dresses. Dont mind the platform boots, wig, and sparkley clothes but no dresses or womens clothing...............to be visible that is Dave

I usually order 2-3 sets at a time and GAK have done this me last twice i've ordered. They had one set for next day delivery but rest would be in stock within a few days. They wanted me to wait but i said no and needed a set ASAP. I assumed they would charge me double postage but they didn't and the other string sets arrived 3 days later. It didn't say on website how many they had in stock. Dave

Its the platform boots. I'd need to sit in the back seat to reach the pedals

I get where you're coming from. I had a "local" gig last week at a pub that was my 2nd home in 80's. It was 30min drive, an easy load in / out and i got to meet up with a lot of friends from when i lived in that area. We finished 11:30pm and packed up and ready to go at 12pm but it was the fact i was only a 30 min drive to get home with little or no traffic on the roads because its basically countryside after the first 10mins. Its the travel distance to/from a gig that gets me. That was the punk band. The Glam band can be a pain after a gig as you need to get changed before you can start stripping gear down. You also need time after the gig to cool down and dry off the sweat. LOL Dave

Not good at all. I'd be extremely peaved at that. Dave

Now that made me laugh. Dave

Mostly do it after dinner as will usualy be at home then. Its funny but i sometimes wonder how i ever fitted work into my day. LOL Dave
-
I've definitely come across that myself but not always the case. I practice the set lists every day, (now retired so its easier to find time). If i have time i'll run thru full set but usually i run thru set #1 one day and then #2 the next. I have 2 bands running and if i'm gigging at weekend i focus more on that bands set for the weekend maybe the Wed-Fri i just do that bands sets. Even when i was working i would run thru half the songs every night after dinner. Dave

100% especially the right band. Dave

I guess we have to allow for people's personal issues coming into the equation. It was good that he stayed with you. Dave

Our guitarist has decided to leave amicably but still a surprise after 4 years and one of the 4 founding members. We now need to start the auditioning process so this thread will offer an insight @jezzaboy. We already have a first interest after last nights face-meet thingy. Drummer and singer both know the guy so that helps. Dave

Happy Jack's spiderman just makes me laugh so much every time i see it. Brilliant. Dave

Always welcome to drop in now and again for a wee blether and catch up on the bass gossip. Sorry to hear about having use of only one arm/hand. We can still chat about basses tho. Dave

Yep one of the few venues that offer to help take gear out for you. Have never experienced any trouble at their gigs. Band even gets fed by them with free tea and coffee. Not many gigs offer that level of appreciation. Dave

Oddly enough i have been thinking about IEM set ups but dont know much about it plus it would only be for the one gig. My Punk band only use a vocal PA as its smaller gigs. Something else i could consider is a decent bass cab that can be used like a wedge monitor at front of stage. I've seen them before but can't remember who made them. Dave

Welcome back. I think i only joined about 10 yrs ago Dave

This is the only venue i have any trouble with stage volumes. When i've played there with the original SE who since retired there was never an issue and bands always raved about sound. I've played there with a few different bands over the years and its only in the last year its been a problem. Dave

Unusual gig in Ivory Blacks last night. Not the biggest audience we've played to but everyone had a great night with lots of dancing. Issues with sound again in here with SE telling me my bass amp was too loud. (i run it at same level every gig to match drum volume. His suggestion was to turn it down and use the monitors for bass. Tried that and his monitors were s**t with nothing but treble clank and distortion on higher notes. Trouble with hearing vocals and guitar. Our sound effects we use for intro's to some songs were muted at the desk as SE forgot to un-mute for 2nd set. Overall not a great night sound wise on stage but audience said the sound out front was good. Not sure if people stayed at home because of the train issues at moment or holiday weekend or even the Jubilee but Glasgow did seem quite quiet last night when we were leaving at 11pm. Not sure what's going on in the band at moment but atmosphere thru the gig and at the end of the night was a bit "odd" perhaps quiet and subdued. Not sure how things will pan out. It felt like this might have been our last gig. When the band enthusiasm and atmosphere goes the fun goes with it. Will wait and see what happens over next few days/weeks. Dave
