Says it all. Sometimes the smaller gigs are just way better. I love when that happens. Dave

Sounds like a successful night for you. Well done. Dave

Played a gig at my old local from the 80's. Girdwoods in Wishaw. I used to frequent 7 days a week back in them far away days. Punk band tonight and it went down a storm. Lots of great feedback and great to see some old faces from my younger days. Even got complimented on choice of songs. Few punk fans had never heard any other bands playing a lot of our set list live and a few Ramones songs they'd never even heard The Ramones play live. Everyone was bouncing away and clapping and singing along. Just a great night. Using my Sandberg MarloweDK again and it just works so well in the Punk band. Dave

You have arrived on the Dark Side of which there is no return. Good start tho and think of all the exciting GAS times you will have ahead of you. Dave

That's not good. Do yu sweat a lot hen practicing at home, I'm guessing no. Gig sweating i can understand and is usually harder on strings. Think Scot's bass lessons guy has an issue where his hands sweat and kill his strings very quickly hence the gloves he wears. Dave

Was that within a month of you playing regular gigs ? Dave

what is it that you prefer over the NYXL's. Just curious ? Dave

That's a couple of you guys that like the XT strings. Might give them a try next. Dave

That's the main thing. Dave

Interesting bass there @howdenspur. Is that a Fender Elite ? Dave

Unfortunately my Dad passed away when i was 22 after almost a year of cancer so he never got to see me play in bands plus it would never have been his kind of music. I did manage to have a few beers with him a couple of times in his local pub before he became unwell. Dave

Just put them on my MarloweDK bass and they feel great in the house. First gig on Sat with the punk band and will report back on how they feel. Smoother on the fingers so far and i have noticed they definitely stay in tune a lot better than EXL190's i normally use. Did use my Sandberg VM4 at rehearsals yesterday which is fitted with the Markbass Longevo nickel strings and they sounded far better on that bass than the MarloweDK. Maybe the active circuit helps. Does your band play your kind of music ?

That's an odd one. When i did the "Friends of Deep Purple" tribute band i absolutely loved playing the songs and still enjoy listening to those same songs. Prog and Classic Rock are my fav music styles. Dave -

Thread is more about whether your band is playing songs that you would normally listen to or is your favourite style of music. Dave -
Superb choice Rob. Dave

My name is on HB list for buying as soon as they've completed the board upgrades and get the amps built. Not far away now and i should be looking at a lovely WB-100 atop of my Mesa Subway rig. Dave

Our Glam Rock covers band has been asked a couple of times if we could play a soul song. We are always clearly advertised as 70's Glam Rock covers band and usually all ticketed so i just dont get that kind of question. Our agent highlighted that fact to a guy at our last gig in Prestonpans Legion. I do find that quite funny but it does highlight there is a desire out there to heare soul music. I'd probably quite enjoy a band playing it too. Dave -
Not sure if this question has been asked before but thought i would ask anyways. Apologies if its a repeat. How many of you play in bands that play your favourite style of music. ? For me my fav music is Prog and classic rock but i play in a 70's Glam Rock covers band and a 70's Punk Rock covers band. Glam rock was the music i first started buying in 70's like Bowie and Sweet etc so its great to be playing it but i was never really a fan of punk altho i do like a lot of the songs now. I love playing in both bands. Dave

Excellent news. My fav music is Prog or classic rock but i'm doing a 70's Glam Rock covers band and a classic punk band. I grew up in early 70's listening to the Glam era so that's ok but I was never into punk at all but i love playing it. Its powerful and quite fast as i'm a fingerstyle player and i had to work on finger stamina for it but its great fun. I'm 62 so not that far behind you Gerry. I was in a band with guys in mid 70;s few yrs ago and we were doing Doobie Brothers and few other bands that i would call more funk rock than anything else but issues within the band .......... the usual ego's even in their 70's LOL I'll keep playing till i'm fed up or bored with bands or i physically cant play so hopefully a good while away yet. Like the sound of the new band tho and hopefully see some vids of gigs in future sir. All the best Dave

ELO Experience tonight with our very own @casapete on bass. If you haven't seen these guys and gals then get along to one of their gigs. Cannot fault them, so much to watch. Cello players were dancing and twirling their cello's like toys and singing along to almost every song. They were amazing to watch, Violin player was outstanding too and also has a fantastic voice. Harmonies in the band were simply exceptional from singer, guitarist, keys and bass. Very very tight playing. Its hard to pick anyone out as the level of musicianship was so high. All brilliant. That's coming from someone who likes ELO but wouldn't class myself as a fan. I recognised every song tho. Audience were loving it from the word go. Highly recommended. Dave

Bass sounds amazing and nice playing there sir. Harmonies are fantastic. Really enjoyed that. The lead vocalist reminded me a bit of early Judie Tzuke. Very nice indeed. Dave
