Thought i was missing something on import costs. 😂
-
It was posted thru Polish National postal service which is linked to our Parcelforce. I can track it thru Parcelforce website. Dave

I was aware of Import Tax and VAT on total cost of item and postage together but not "window tax". What's that about ? When i looked into HB amps i calculated the approx additional charges and for an all valve amp is excellent value for money and still a lot cheaper than other all valve amps available that i might look at. The other deciding factor is the amp footprint that will let it sit on my 20" wide Mesa cabs. @Steve Browning cheers mate its been a long wait for a new amp. I'll still be looking at a Mesa TT800 when they start shipping to UK again just as a back up or for ease of lifting. HB amp is only 16Kg so not bad at all. Dave

Has anyone bought something from EU recently. Just wondering how long it took to get delivered. Handbox WB-100 was collected from HB on 5th Aug and despatched from Poland on 8th Aug but no change in status since. I've never really bought from outside UK especially since Brexit so no exxperience of how long things take these days. Anyone offer any insight or advice. Dave

Did it discourage drinking it 😂 I've updated my post after further searches revealed the additives are different with one used mainly for removing stains and the other as a disinfectant. Dave

I think Surgical spirit is the same as meths altho could be wrong. A quick google search produced this desccription Surgical spirit is composed of isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirits (denatured alcohol) solutions, diluted with water. APOLOGIES I WAS WRONG (again) :- on further searches i found that both are denatured alcohol but the additives are different. I'll get some surgical spirit this week from chemist and give it a try. I know you've probably heard this before but can you turn up the bass and play a bit lighter on the strings. I've tried it and it does work but i do like the aggressive tone you get by hitting the strings hard and i've been doing for 40 yrs. Got a 3 week break at moment and dreading the next gig at end of the month with the punk band 😂 I did try the meths thing but didn't seem to help on the gig. I spent around 10 days dipping my fingertips for 5mins sometimes twice a day. ? Dave

Over a week ago i emailed them thru their website and no response. Bit disappointed but its not the end of the world. Dave

100% agree.

Had to have a 2nd take wndering what 8/13 and 8/14 was then i realised in US you always use month before date rather than in UK its date and month. There's me initially thinking it was an address thing. It was just a for a second or two then it hit me. I'm not that slow...............honest. 😂 Have a good weekend Blue. Dave

Have to say i wasn't impressed with Sandberg response ........ nothing at all. ???

Finally got round to shimming my MarloweDK neck. Used a 1cm wide strip of a business card which was 0.33mm thick. That gave me enough for my needs but only just. I was able to straighten the neck a little more without getting fret buzz and string height is now around 1.8mm. I'm more than happy with that so many thanks to all for the advice and the Marlowe now feels a lot easier to play and more like my Geddy Jazz with regards feel. I'm a very happy bunny again. Dave

Brilliant

I have the ACS ones but to be honest very rarely wear them unless i feel the band is approaching "too loud" but we dont really play that loud on stage. I also have a set of Senner ear plugs for the bike and they fit really well and allow certain noise thru. They do a musicians ear plug that might be worth a look. They are round rather than shaped liked the ACS ones and more like the industrial ones you get Dave. Dave

I tried that ice thing after our first set and it worked a treat for the 2nd set. I've been steeping my fingers in meths for the previous week but didn't seem to do anything. More gigs is the answer. Dave

I think they started producing them around 2003 but that's based on comments taken off the TB site around 2003 / 2004 era. Not sure if Mesa have a check on their site for serial numbers like basses have. Think the earliest models had twin input sockets rather than a switch for active / passive modes. Also early ones had blue instead of black on the front facings at control knobs etc. Maybe our very own Mesa expert and user of many years can help @Steve Browning Dave

whereabouts was it Stevie. Sounds like a venue to avoid. Dave

I did look at Stewmac shims but they dont appear to do one long enough for Sandberg 6 bolt neck pockets.
-
Yes the more i read up on it the more serious issues around shimming is that it can warp the neck and i've seen some examples on line. I've contacted Sandberg to see if they can offer advice on it and if they can supply a shim specifically for this bass. Dave
-
There seems to be different thoughts on shimming whereby if its shimmed at one end (stepping effect) you lose some of the sustain from the neck thru the body because you've reduced the contact area slightly. Others say it makes no difference to the sound from the bass. I'll have a look at maple veneer sample idea and check out the link you've posted. Cheers Dave

I get what you mean. Think i'll try this at the weekend as no gigs and the bass needs some new strings. Looks like a plan is starting. Many thanks for the advice. Dave
