  1. I find the winging it attitude works in Blues type bands ok but not in any other type of music............well maybe some sort of free jazz kinda music but not your typical pub band. Dave
  2. No it was the band with Ian Plaice and John Lourdes
  3. Both bands i'm in take the music seriously but it still needs to have a fun element and be enjoyable. People will be paying good money to see the Glam band so that's probably a bit more serious. I learn songs as close to originals as i can, i write out the bass part for every song from the outset and that's used as the reminder to everyone how its played. I've been in bands where people (usually guitarists) turn up for rehearsals and think they can just wing it. That's my sign to get out and find like minded musicians. The Glam band started from scratch (4 of us), we agreed a set list to work on and picked the first 4-5 songs to learn for the first rehearsal to see how we got on. It worked and from there it was 3-4 songs every week. Everyone put the same effort in and we made great progress very quickly getting tighter as we worked together. I regard rehearsals as work, i put the effort in beforehand and its about tighting things up and sorting out the finer points like endings etc. The punk band was already gigging and i was given the set and 3 weeks later we were gigging. Both bands put the effort and i enjoy working with like minded people. Dave
  4. Like everyone with a mobile these days it'll get blamed on "bloomin preferential txt". We all do it.
  5. Do you have two of them Sorry couldn't help it, your post has shown twice ? Dave
  6. Yep that is one very nice looking bass. I can see why he wanted it but agree you should keep it. Onceyou find "the bass" you should never sell it. Dave
  7. Thankfully i'm not a "Theorist" cause i'm lost in this techiness of the speaker world now. Its nice to know some of you out there understand all of this to keep us numpties on the right path to true bass nirvana. Dave
  8. Pics of the Kingbass would be nice if you dont mind sharing just to give me an idea of what it looks like. Dave
  9. Thought my fingers were getting better but punk gig last night proved me wrong. No blisters but tips are a bit tender. Got some in my garage and gonna try this tip to see how it goes. How long do you steep them. ? Dave
  10. Wee pub gig with the punk band last night 6-9pm slot. Great time to play as i get to kebab shop before i get home. Only downside is that i need to leave the house at 3pm to get to the gig for set up. Audience size varied thru the night from half full to busy and back to half again towards the end. Everyone seemed to be enjoying it. Standing very close to amp meant i couldn't hear my tone properly but it sounded ok on Vids that have appeared. Has anyone else noticed that with many mobile phone vids the bass drops out a bit when the vocals start. I'm guessing the phones have some sort of built in limiter/compression of some kind.
  11. WOW just WOW. Now that's a proper bass rig. Had it been a bit closer and i hadn't ordered a Handbox WB-100 i would definitely have looked into this altho i just need the amp. At that price its a bargain for the amp alone. All the best with the sale Dave
  12. I have done that on occassion. Think it made a slight difference. I'll try it tonight at my punk gig. I occasionally use Voltarol on y fingertips when not gigging much. I started using it because my fretting hand index finger had a sensitive nerve end and it helped reduce the stabbing pain. I noticed it also helped reducce the pain on my plucking fingers too. Not used it for a while as my fingers are starting to harden up again now that gigs are more frequent plus we have a new guitarist and i'm playing just as hard at rehearsals to try and help. Its trying to get the right balance between volume and aggressive tone. Sometimes it just all works, other times not so much. 😂 Dave
  13. I like the aggression from playing hard fingerstyle and almost every gig my index and mid finger and occassionally ring fingers are tender. Not getting blisters now that i'm gigging more again. No easy fix as far as i know. The more you play the tougher the fingertips get. I like the ice bath idea when i get home tonight i might try that. To be fair my fingers are back to normal following day now. Dave
  14. Curious what bass you are using there @jimmyb625. ? Dave
  15. Not at all, i'm still finding this thread interesting. Dave
  16. For me a visual indication of where my amp is running as a percentage can be helpful. Depending on what band i'm playing with i find the volume can creep up without you truly realising it. A quick visual would let me know if i'm pushing my master volume too much and my amp is close to its max limit. Dave
  17. Understand what you mean. I was hoping for a simple jack % Jill explanation but its far more complex than i ever imagined. I reckon designers and manufacturers are waging a "Dark Strategy" to confuse the masses................its working Seriously there's far more to it than i ever imagined. All credit to the companies that are doing it right...............i just dont know who they are ? Dave
  18. This is clarifying something that's troubled me over many years. Once again i find @agedhorse coming forward with valuable insights into this complex issue and simplifying as much as possible for non-techs. Its nice to know how designers think about this subject. This might explain why Mesa amps are solid bits of kit 👍 Cheers @agedhorse Dave
  19. Now there's an idea.
  20. I guess if it wasn't for @Merton making the suggestion in first place then maybe Stoneham wouldn't have picked this one up at all. If the designer picks up on a suggestion he thinks is worthwhile i'm sure he'll install it in the new amp. I like the idea of a company making the amp that bassists are asking for altho it does become a wish list more than anything else. I guess we like to dream a little. Dave
  21. Tuner out would be nice to have. With daisy chained cabs my understanding is that if one cab fails it wont affect the other cab as they are basically in parallel at the back of the speakon on the cab which i believe is the same with the twin amp speakons. Only issue is that if the cable from the amp fails then you lose both cabs. Dave
  22. Proper basses you mean Dave
  23. Not been to a Bass Bash for quite a few years now. Used to go to the Moffat Bass Bash organised by Alan at ACG and Chris from Overwater but not sure if that is still going. A NE bash wouldn't be too far away from me depending on what you class as NE of course. Dave
  24. Sounds interesting. Now i can relax Dave
