I gone and did it. Once again thanks to you for earlier advice on the MarloweDK. Dave

After 40 yrs playing classic rock, Glam rock and prog rock i've also just joined a 70's punk band covering several Ramones songs and playing finger style i can admit to it being quite a challenge on the plucking hand doing a 2.5 hr set. I tried a pic but the Ramones bassist almost always plays only on the down stroke and that takes some stamina. I can play them normal pic style but just more comfortable with fingerstyle. I def will try and use a pic for some songs to give my fingers a bit of a rest. Dave

Its just dawned on me that last 2 pics i've posted of gigs have had barriers to seperate the audience from band. 😂 Ivory Blacks and Dreadnought. Dave

Brilliant love the sound of that WAL.

Pic from the gig last night as mentioned earlier in the thread.

That's very "floral" Dave

I'll see if the band know him personally. 2 of the band are from Bathgate. Dave

The Draednought in Bathgate. 3 bands on. Muddy Scoundrels who were excellent and great harmonies. Emergency Exit who were brilliant but i know the bass player The Gimmie Gimmie Gimmies who were headlining and are a fantastic band to watch. So energetic. Dave

Wee support gig tonight for The Gimmie Gimmies. 45 min set that seemed to go in very fast. Great feedback from audience and praise from the headliners on a fantastic set. After spending a wad of dosh on Mesa gear i played thru the venues Behringer head and old battered Ashdown 15" cab and it sounded fantastic. Plenty of depth and clarity and a nice slightly overdriven tone too. Only got one pic so far

That's nice. Dave

Horse & Jockey ? After the gig i stopped outside the Indian takeaway across the road and a shop sign blew off and hit roof of my car then blew across the road. While i was in the shop it blew back again and hit the side of the rear wheel arch. Sods bloomin law..............twice. Had a better look this morning but it will polish out relatively easy. No dents either as it was a metal sign so that was lucky. Stupid shop owners left it out knowing there were gale force winds expected that night..........idiots. Dave

Stop it @Cuzzie BD have one in stock and now your making it worse. Dave

Had no idea Paul had gone. It was Paul i dealt with last few times i was there and he was very helpful but not pushy. Dave

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2021?

Not heard of them but that looks very nice. Dave -
Not my gig but was out seeing The Illegal Eagles tonight. They are one very professional outfit. Very impressive musicianship. Dave

Agree with others about the necks. One of the nicest i've played and very easy to get along with. My Geddy Jazz has a slim back to front neck and i sometimes get a little left hand cramp if playing long gigs. I find a P bass a little to wide across the neck in general but i get used to it very quickly when playing it. When i go back to my VM4 it just feels so comfy and i'm home again. Its kind of in between J and P and i think most poeple adapt to it very easily.. I know a few guys that sold theirs and have since regretted it and now either looking for another or have one already. The TM4 gives you a bit more options with the split humbucker at the back that the VM4 doesn't have. Means you can get a jazz type sound too. Dave

PMT in Leeds appear to have them. That cant be too far away from you ? Dave

Everyone should have a trip to BD once in their lifetime. Its quite a bass cave. So many nice basses. Dave

Dont think you'll be disappointed with the playability of Sandberg basses. Its more about what tone you need. I have the VM4 but sometimes i feel the TM4 might have been a better choice for me as i love my Jazz bass. Necks are so nice to play and all the ones i've tried have been lighter than my Fenders. All well balanced. You can get a really low action on them due to the PLEK system on the frets. I had mine down at around 1.2mm at home but when i started gigging again i had to raise it slightly to 1.5mm because i play quite hard on the strings with my plucking hand. Would have thought there was a Guitar Guitar in your area. That's where i've tried them all. I did drive down to Bass Direct once to try out 5 stringers so if you are gonna spend a lot of money on a bass you really want to try them out and a day out might be worthwhile for you. Guitar Guitar Birmingham or Newcastle look nearest to you. Dave

A gigs a gig. Doing a 45 minute support slot tomorrow night but all the backline supplied. Have bass will travel kinda gig. I like that. Dave

Biggar in Scotland, near Lanark approx 250 miles from you if i remember right. Used to drive down to BOC Brinsworth quite a bit and i think that's in Sheffield area. Took me approx 3-3.5hrs solid driving. Been a few years. 😂 Dave

My Geddy Jazz feels lighter than my P bass altho i haven't actually weighed them. The slim Geddy Signature Jazz has a nice slim neck and is similar in feel to my Warwick Thumb NT 89. Have to admit none of my Fenders are light basses whereas my Sandberg is a dream to play. Dave -

Sad sign of the times i'm afraid. Ordered my Mesa TT800 in May this year and might get it Spring 2022. Down to a combination of available parts and shipping containers in wrong places plus the workforce effects due to pandemic. Andertons have assured me that price will not go up as i've already paid for the amp so that's a bonus. Dave -
Bit too far away for you but if you are ever in the area i'm happy to help. Dave

I wish ........... better than an old battered transit van during 70's / 80's altho happy memories of that era too. Lightweight compact gear means transporting gear these days is so much easier. 😀 I would get all my gear in that car tho. Dave
