  1. What kind of gig was that ??? Dave
  2. Sounds like you have it all in hand. I operate our smoke machines when used but lights are all on sound to light. Drummer owns all the lights but they have a sensitivity control on them for S to L use. Dave
  3. Exactly what i do. I have lots of notes to the point bands find humour in my love of notes but all in good humour. The other benefit from it is that i know exactly what the song structure is from my notes where others tend to have listened and learned their part but can't remember the structure especially after a break like covid or we reinstate a song we've dropped for a bit. Dave
  4. Plus a smoke machine to operate by looks of it. Can you not programme the main lights for a sound to light or even an auto fade in/out whether its slow or fast it can usually be set up thru programming. Just use the switching for special effects like your pin spots i see in one of the pics. Just trying to save you a lot of tap dancing thru the night 😂 Dave
  5. You guys must be first class to be playing those gigs. Some nice venues there. At some point i need to come along and see you guys. What bass rig were you using on the gigs . Dave
  6. In the Glam covers band i know most of the lyrics mainly because its the songs i grew up with in my early teens and bought the singles and also a few years before playing bass. I dont particularly focus on the lyrics but on occasion i use them sub-conciously as a reminder for changes in te song. In the punk band i vaguely remembered the songs from the radio but was never a punk fan so i have no idea what the lyrics are. I hear the vocal lines when i'm playing but only certain words or phrases trigger my brain that a change is coming. The singer could sing any words to the melody and i wouldn't know any better. I tend to learn songs mostly on the bass itself and write out every note. Dave
  7. You're gonna be just fine. Bet you love being back into it again. It just takes the right people. Keep us posted on your progress and if we can help just give us all a shout. The big BC family is always here. Dave
  8. Come Up and See Me is a brilliant song to learn and play. Nice choice. Dave
  9. Well done and i bet you thoroughly enjoyed it. When i get a full set to learn quickly i usually start by getting all the songs on youtube playlist or download to CD and play along with them to get a feel for them then start at the top and work my way thru them a few at a time. I like to write out the songs note for note as i find it helps me remember them on paper too. I will try to find music or tabs as a quick reference but mostly done by ear. Just pick the first 3 or 4 and work on them and once happy move to the next few. Sounds like you've found "your band" and that's always a good feeling. Have fun and enjoy. Dave
  10. One's enough for me LOL I wanted it for a classic punk covers band but i'm finding the Sandberg Marlowe is much better suited to it. I've had so many positive comments about the tone i'm getting. Clear, defined with just enough depth for a punk covers band. Bass was never overly prominent in most punk bands. Its quite a mid punch tone that suits better. Dave
  11. That's why i dont dep at short notice. I dont want to be put under that kind of pressure. I know a lot of guys on here know lots of the usual songs for their particular band style and can drop in at very short notice but i tend to forget songs once they are out the set list and if i need to play them again i need to refresh my old head. Its not age i've always been like that. Best example for me is Burn by Deep Purple. I absolutely love playing that song over the many years but could i play it today ......... NOPE, and i've played it so many times including a DP tribute band 😂 Dave
  12. Bit much to expect someone to know their set with just a days notice. Maybe they want to see how quickly you can pick things up from them. You know ...... how you work together as a band. It might be a lot more relaxed than you think if they only gave the set yesterday. Take it for what it is. A bit of a laugh with like minded people. Hope it goes ok and let us know how you got on. Dave
  13. Someone just got a fantastic bass at that price. By far one of the best Jazz basses out there. Superb neck and tone. Nice one. Dave
  14. It didn't make sense to me either as it seemed to be the best seller of the 3 models. You'd think as a company Fender would produce the best seller rather than the others. That's Fender for you. Dave
  15. There was a blonde version but it sold very quickly and no longer produced. I tried one in GG when they first appeared. Dave
  16. Come to think of it i think the one i bought is the 50's re-issue that the Vintera took over from. I could be wrong with that tho. To be fair most people dont use P basses for fiddly work at the dusty end of the neck. Its usually a stalwart of precision deepness to hold a good solid backline. I know a guy with 3 of the Vintera P basses and he's had no issues at all. Maybe i'm just a bit fussy about my set ups. Fender recommended string height is 2.5mm and that's how you get them from factory according to their set up guide. Its a workhorse bass and if that's what you are looking for i'd highly recommend them. Dave
  17. The only thing i have found with mine is that the neck is almost straight from nut to 12th fret then it has a slight bend which caused me a few headaches trying to set it up. The action was 3mm at 12th when i got it. The neck had a slight curve bordering on a bit too much to OK so decided to drop the string height first down to 2.5mm which is my normal starting point with any bass. What i got was choking at the 14th / 15th fret upwards on some strings. I then straightened the neck a bit but found fret buzz at the 4th / 5th frets. Checked neck again and went a bit too far so brought it back a slight touch. Where i am now is an almost straight neck but still that little bend at neck join but my string height is down to approx 2.25mm based on a visual against a string height gauge. Its not perfect but as i use it mainly for punk covers band it works ok for me. No fret buzz and no choking. I have considered taking in to a luthier to sort the issue but i foresee some major neck repairs and as the bass only cost £600 its probably not worth the trouble and expense. Dave
  18. I did a butterscotch one with maple neck. Really happy with it even tho the neck is a fair bit wider than i prefer its still easy to play and has that lovely P tone. Got it from our very own @Thornybank. Its one of my fav basses for tone at the moment altho the new MarloweDK is taking over everything i do. Its just the perfect bass for me. Thanks for asking. Dave
  19. Or you just need to practice more Dave
  20. What style of music are you looking for. I've just learned this and found it really good to play. Still to try in the band yet. There are a few TABS for this but both are quite wrong but you will get the feel for it from using both TABS. Or you can just learn by ear as i did. Dave
  21. Love that song Rob. First time i saw it was OGWT and i was blown away by the band. thanks for choosing another classic band. Dave
  22. Busy on 8th but might manage the 22nd. Dave
  23. Was sitting in the house watching crap telly Lee. Wish i had seen that i would have come down. You need to advertise more mate. Dave
  24. Vadar awaits you. I can see you buying a Darkglass rig to transport you thru bass-space. Dave
