  1. To be honest it was just gonna be faded jeans and a punk T shirt of some kind and hair in a ponytail. Bands are too fickle to be making drastic changes to my appearance. I'm probably the opposite end of the spectrum from punk but its all about enjoyment from both an audience point of view and for me personally. Rest of the band typically wear same type of gear and not necessarily punk looking. At our age most people can fit any any realm of music style cause we all look like old Dads nowadays 😂 Dave
  2. TBH i didnt pay much attention to the punk movement when it happened so my recollection of who and when is very very vague. I've been learning the punk songs from youtube clips and i haven't, so far, seen any bands looking like the pic above. I may come across one as i get further thru the set but if i do it will be quite a low % of total punk bands i'm looking at. Dave
  3. Thing is i dont remember any punk bands looking like this. It looks like fans took it to extreme. Dave
  4. But you had great fun doing it.
  5. I used to be the same and just focus on one band. I see the same issues as yourself in that band members work commitments have slowed down rehearsals and we struggle to arrange rehearsals. Before covid we rehearsed every 2 weeks but did a 6hr session which cut down on travel times and fuel costs for us all. I went with a 2nd band but they changed attitude and only wanted to play 5 or 6 gigs a year but still rehearse for 2hrs every week which for me was 40 miles away along country roads which took me 75-90mins each way. It was costing me £50/mth just to rehearse. That band folded this week. I was then asked if i was interested in taking over bass duties in mates punk band who gig every couple of weeks and sometimes more. He is the drummer in my other main band so that works out quite well. I've spent a lot of money on new Mesa gear during covid and just want to get out there and gig with it and have a bit of fun as well. There's no reason why you need to stick with one band provided you have the time to learn the songs. Dave
  6. I had dealt with Mark at BD on line via emails etc but when looking for a good 5 stringer i wasnt sure what i wanted and decided to drive down. 250 miles each way. It was well worth the trip just to see the selection of basses he keeps in stock. I came away with a Dingwall NG2 that was suggested by Mark. If i'm buying new its my first stop. They are always happy to help you and offer advice. Highly recommend Bass Direct Dave
  7. Were the mohican styles the New Wave era just after punk ? I cant really remember a lot about the punk movement to be honest. Dave
  8. I'm really looking forward to it. The drummer and singer are both in the 70's Glam Covers band so that helps with scheduling gigs. Dave
  9. I remember punk as being just short hair styles, not skinheads but short hair with tattered jeans and T shirts with punk bands on them. Apart from the hair styles not much different to what i wore as a hippy biker type. Dave
  10. Bad news today that the guitarist in the blues rock band has doubts about carrying on so rather than waste time and money while he decides i called it a day with them so i'm now back to 2 bands again. It was an 80 min drive each way to their 2hr rehearsals including a smoke break in the middle for 15mins and was costing me £50 / mth between fuel and rehearsal room. And they only wanted to play 5 or 6 gigs a year. Bands are funny old things. Fair enjoying the punk songs tho. Lots of energy and good fun playing along with them. Dave
  11. I've had my ACS ones about 4 yrs and they still fit perfectly. What's the reason for replacing. Is it the fact your ears change over time and they dont fit the same or do the filters degenerate thru time or use ? Dave
  12. I've been to quite a few of their gigs and they are great fun. Altho i was a rock and prog fan during the punk era its surprising how many punk songs i know from that era. I'm good friends with their other bass player and thats exactly how he described playing the songs @Lozz196 "Good fun pop songs" I need to get used to using a plectrum again but i'm finding it quite easy with the punk songs. Dave
  13. Was asked at start of week if i'd be interested in joining our drummers other band as their current bassist has decided to leave. My main band is a 70's Glam Rock covers band but they can only manage to gig 6-8 times a year due to work commitments. 2nd band is a blues/rock based 8 piece band incl 2 singers, bass, drums, 2 guitars, keys and sax player. The material is more Paul Carrack, Flletwood Mac to Peter Green amd Clapton. They only want to play their local pubs around the borders towns near Galasheils Kelso etc I'm 40 miles away from where the band are based and rehearse. The new band is a classic Punk covers band who gigged fairly regularly before Covid and have had 3 requests in the past week alone to play various types of gigs in next few months and they haven't started looking for gigs yet. I agreed to give it a try altho i do still have long hair and dont look like a typical punk but i can see a ponytail coming on. 42 songs to learn for their first gig on 18th Sept but they are all quite short. Total of 2.5hrs worth. The singer with them is our backing vocalist in the Glam Rock band too. I've never played punk songs before but have to say i'm really quite enjoying learning them. I normally wouldn't play in more than one band at a time but having spent a lot of money on my new Mesa rig i want to get as much use out of it as i can plus i enjoy gigging. Dave
  14. In late 80s I was in a 3 piece band with drummer using a Simmons kit and guitarist using a Roland guitar synth. That was a great fun band and several venues asked us back because we could turn the drum volume down. Plus we were a good band I hope.🤣
  15. It's good when you find a drummer that's prepared to move with the times and at the very least try new technology rather than simply dismiss it. I guess the same could be said for many other musicians. Dave
  16. When i notice mine it stops if i bite down with my back teeth but comes right back when i release again. It gets more noticeable if i have any sinus problems which is quite regular. It never bothers me too much and more noticeable at night when i first go to bed. Def the more i think about it the worse it seems to be. I've been trying to stop thinking for many years 😂 I also have the ACS plugs but only use if a band is getting a bit loud. Most bands i play in have learned to play at lower volumes thru much persuasion from me. Some drummers have problems playing quiet tho. Mine started when i bent down to adjust a floor pedal at exact same time the drummer decided to test his kit and hit a crash cymbal right next to my right ear. My hearing has been tested every 2-3 yrs thru my work since mid 80's and i always had one frequency lower in my right ear than others. As i aged my hearing deteriorated slightly and that one frequency got lower and i think that's a contributing factor to noticing the tinnitus more. I only have it in my right ear. My right ear was always the one that got painful when flying if cabin pressure changed quickly when landing. Not so much with modern planes but back in 80's it was regularly a painful experience flying. I really need to start wearing my plugs all the time. To be fair i've had it from 2012 and its never really changed or got worse. Dave
  17. I've started using my mfx unit so receiver is now on floor but transmitter is on my strap near the bridge button end. Hopefully it wont be an issue there. Dave
  18. Excellent reply @Phil Starr That helped a lot. Dave
  19. We used to be 240V with EU being 220V so it was agreed to go to 230V to standardise AFAIK. Dave
  20. what's the x1.4 Steve ? I've always looked at it as for every 250W power load its 1A.
  21. From memory a ring main will typically have a 32A circuit breaker and the load on the sockets will be shared evenly around the ring. When you use everything from one socket the limiting factor is the 13A fuse in the wall plug. Dave
  22. It assists the audience in being a-tent-ive
  23. You might have picked a pic where we can see you Rob 😀
