So far i've not had to use it as only just started gigging on Sat night and load in was easy and level. At rehearsals i travel with drummer who has a large flightcase that we just stack gear on top but again studio is on the flat. Fully booked from end this month thru to December so might get a chance for those gigs. I have used it in my garage tho and it works pretty good to move bags of sand around my garage during a tidy up LOL Its quite sturdy and easy to unfold and refold. I still need to get some rubber mat to put on bottom metal parts as they will rub on bottom of my cabs if i dont and could damage the covering. (i'd actually forgot all about the mat.) Dave

Our last gig was a support slot opening for them because our singer and guitarist know them pretty well which was in March just before covid hit. I thought they had packed it in unless young Jay has reformed with new members. Peter was the singer/guitaris from what i remember and he was around the 55-60 area i think. LOL Young Jay is an amazing guitarist and a nice young lad too. Dave

Altho i bought the P bass it was too short notice to my first gig in 18mths and first gig with this new band after learning songs in 3-4 weeks. I stuck with my old trusty Geddy Jazz and Mesa Mpulse and Subway 210/115 cabs. I thought it sounded pretty good from audience side but on stage was a bit boomy and for some reason i was hearing the low end drop out when digging in but the vid clips from phones it sounds fine with a nice warm low end. Not the best quality clip but the sound came thru ok with headphones. video-1633892512.MP4.mp4

Think one of my mates was involved in that. Young Jay from Status Quoing. Think he's still in his teens or there about. Our band played a support for them a couple of times when we started out. Dave

Someone sent me a Phone clip of our support slot for Skababs last night. My debut gig after 3 weeks learning the songs. Not the best quality but gives a reasonable idea of what it was about Dave video-1633892512.MP4.mp4

You cant ask for much more than that. Success. 👍 Dave

Yep i've done that on occasion altho its usually at rehearsals wherei lose focus on the song because i'm thinking more about my EQ. Dave

So nice. Really enjoyed this. Great overall sound. Bass tone is gorgeous. Nice one. Dave

Hard to tell with the drums as the PA had no onstage monitoring apart from vocals. Drums were thru the PA but i was behind the PA line. With the boom on stage it was hard to hear the drums properly plus drummer was using other bands kit which was a tiny bass drum. I was using compression to start but switched it off to see if it helped. It didnt make a lot of difference. I was rehearsing with my other Glam band today and using my VM4 and even when digging in it still sounded great. Had an amazing tone today with an EBS HD360 into Ampeg 810. The VM4 just nailed everything. Might be that the VM4 gets used for both bands. I'll try the P bass i bought at a rehearsal to see how that sounds. I'm comfortable with 40-100's and have used them since i started 40+ yrs ago apart from when i bought my Thumb bass which came with 35-95 Elites and i liked them. Everything else has been more or less 40-100's. Could pick up height be an issue ? Dave

Using fingerstyle. Its not so bad with tone backed off but i like that click from the high end EQ. I'll take to rehearsals next week and experiment a bit with it to see if playing lighter helps. Something i did think of this morning is whether a slightly heavier gauge of string might reduce the movement of the strings across the pole pieces. What do you think. I'm using D'addario nickels 40-100. Could take it up to med gauge 45-105 see if it helps. Dave

That might have been the issue altho i'm not sure how to sort that other than not digging in so hard. Digging in with a punk band just seemed to come very naturally to me. Dave

First gig with the new punk band last night. Support to a Ska band. Decided on using the Geddy Jazz with Mesa Mpulse and Subway 210/115 rig. Not sure what was happening but when digging in the bass seemed to be losing its low end as if over compressed. Was fine at lower volumes. Might need to raise string height a bit for the punk band. I've never experienced that before but i was playing quite hard fingerstyle. Any thoughts welcome As we were a support only an hour and 15 mins set most of the punters were there for the Ska band but we got a pretty good response after each song and several people on the dancefloor too. The Ska band were doing a 2 nighter and were in theFri night too and the club was exxtremely busy. Add to that the Undertones were playing Edinburgh last night and many punks would be at the Undertones. Reckon there were about 100-125 audience. On at 8:30 and off at 9:45 ish so and early night home by 11:15pm Only made one duffer mistake which wasn't too bad considering i only had 3-4 wks to learn the 42 songs in the set. Dave

Quite a heavy bass too. I've found over the years that if you dont get the height right when wearing the bass the neck seems to go on forever 😂 Dave

The wee tiny one or the full size one ? Full size one i bought in 89 the year it was made. EMG's but the EMG pre-amp failed few yrs back and Warwick could only supply the MEC one. Fitted by McIntyre Guitars in Edinburgh. Been gigged about 2-3 times in its life back in early 90's and then i retired from bands due to work commitments. It was my only bass up till 2010. She is lovely tho. Dave

Its not the one advertised on BC but its exact same. Because i couldn't get to KeNt area to see the bass before buying it was a no go for me but another fellow BCer saw my comment and got in touch via PM's and he lives 45mins away from me so that was excellent. He said he would price match the one advertised on here. Now that i know how good these basses are i might look at a back up one. Dave

Agree no matter how many times i watch that series i still roll about laughing. Just great simple comedy. Dave

I've passed the Ric details onto my mate with the 3 P basses i told you about. He might be interested but will let you know. You're only as young as you feel Chris and only few yrs difference from me. I've just never grown up Chris LOL Dave

I've actually just bought a Fender P 50's reissue with maple neck and its pretty much what i was looking for. It was a great price from a fellow BCer so cant complain there. Dave

Thanks everyone for the advice and helping me choose. At some point i might even buy a Ric just for the sake of having one again. Got a Jazz and a Precision now so a Ric would make a great addition to old vintage style basses 😂 Of course my wife might have other ideas on that. 😂 Dave
-
Absolutely brilliant comment. I'm still laughing even as i type this. 😂

Brilliant. Forgot i had put that up there to be honest but all basses are kept in my bass cave no matter what size they are. I'm just being very PC as you never know who might want to try your basses.

Just bought a blonde with maple neck P bass from Chris. Was very helpful with messaging on details and agreed to meet at very short notice as i wanted the bass for a gig on Sat night. On time and supplied with a very nice gig bag too. Fantastic price and no hassle. Such a nice guy to talk bass with. Lot of experience by sounds of it. Will definitely keep his number on my contacts list. If you're looking for something give Chris a call. He seems to be able to find things at great prices. He even offered to let me use his Costco card to fill up the car in Costco petrol station but it was already full. One of the nice guys in the world. Many thanks Chris.

Well i finally made a decision and bought this from a fellow BC'er. Quick strip down, clean and polish then refit with new D'addario nickels. Adjust string height down a bit to 1.75mm and tweaked the intonation on E string and its sounding absolutely amazing. No need to adjust the truss. I'd forgotten how much i liked a P bass tone. Its probably the tone i've been searching for.

I just put a patch over it 😂

Oh happy days. My mate still has my old Columbas Jazz. I had moved on and just left it with him. His daughter took up bass playing and he offered it back to me but said no just let the kids enjoy it. With regards different types of pick i made some of my own. Flattened out one pence pieces and shaped by hammering on an anvil. I also covered one of them in denim to get a warmer tone like fingers. That worked until the denim started to wear thru. Still have them all. Also a 5mm thick felt one that never really worked. Have a few rubber types as well but not so good when playing on the strings as it tended to be a bit sticky. Dave
