In a white room. ๐ Dave. -
An audiologist at work suggested that was possibly the reason for a drop in response on one frequency in my right ear altho he was confused why just my right ear. It was still above average for my age but have since developed a touch of tinnitus in that ear too. Coincidence, just getting old or loud drummers ? Who knows. Dave

Sane here, played Ace of Spades fingerstyle in a rock covers band about 5 yrs ago and must admit i had no problems with it. Tried it with a pick but nope just couldn't get to grips with it at all. Dave

I was never into punk in 70's. I'm more rock / prog background as far as bands are concerned. Have to say the bands previous bass player who i know really well was like me and into Supertramp and similar bands in 70's but he said the band was just great fun and thoroughly enjoyed playing the songs. And to be fair i'm really enjoying learning the songs. Some of the bass parts are far better than i ever imagined. Some talented punk musicians back then. I can remember hearing Into the Valley done in French back in the day. The punk band get regular gigs altho not great money compared to 70's Glam covers band but more gigs. I'm happy to gig provided my costs are covered. Have a support gig to Skababs in October so that should be a fun night. That will be my first gig with the band. Dave

I need to learn Into the Valley by the Skids. Luckily a mate bass player knows the song and told me the E string is detuned to D to play it. I've given it a try and it sounds pretty good but will get back to that one as i work thru the bands set list. He would detune his E string just for that one song and retune straight after it. Another one i'm struggling a bit with and is such a simple wee song is Love Song by The Damned. Its not technically difficult but just odd changes for me. I'd never heard the song before and the original official song the bass isn't eactly clear in the mix but found a good cover on youtube where the guy put up the bass tab on the bottom of the screen as he was playing it. I'm generally not a pick player and only restarted using one in past few weeks when I joined a punk covers band but I get severe finger cramp and pins and needles in my fingers after a while. To be fair I have 42 songs to learn in 3-4weeks and at it morn noon and evening. Took Mon off and hand back to normal. I hold the pick very lightly too.

Maybe i should actually try it first before making a bold statement ๐ I used to practice Percy Jones, Jeff Berlin and a few others like them back in early 80's when i was an absolute bass geek and would think nothing of doing that kind of thing but with age i definitely slowed down. Some of that thru lack of pushing myself like i did at 20yrs of age and just losing the inclination or need to play that fast. It did get me into some good bands back in 80's as most rock bands had never heard that style of playing and guitarists used to hate when i played their solo part on the bass. I used to think that was hilarious the first time you do it. The look on a guitarist face was priceless. I was practicing 2-3 hrs every day after work before hitting pub at 9pm. Happy days but i generally dont play fast things like that these days except faffing about in the house when i have no set lists to learn. I think age has taught me that speed isnt always the best thing to play....... in a band situation of course. Dave
-
Now that was really nice. I could probably get it if i worked at it but couldn't maintain that speed for too long. Would def take me a while to work it out. Really enjoyed that plus a gorgeous background to be playing against. Dave

I just love the Sandberg necks. Every one i've tried has been top notch and unable to fault. Yep keep us posted what you think of them when they come in. Dave
-
Just read that thread and i think i've got it mostly right but came across this version and its easy to follow and makes sense how he does it plus great playing from the guy.
-
Just joined a punk covers band and been working on this very song. I think i got it right but it took a few trys to get there. I did come across this guy doing it and his tone makes it very clear and you can see what he's doing.

Just joined a punk covers band and have 42 songs to learn for 5th Sept. Was never a big punk fan and always thought the songs simple and basic but i'm coming across a few songs that are really quite nice bass lines. Babylons Burning by Ruts and White Riot by Clash are 2 that stand out for me. The Ruts song has amazing little fills on the chorus and the Clash song verse has a great bass riff that is played quite fast. Took me a few goes to get that one right as i'm traditionally a fingerstyle player but learning how to use a plectrum again for this band. Oddly enough i can play it fairly easy with fingers but pick was hard work getting it right. Dave

Sorry i cant offer any help here but i prefer the California or Jazz style Sandbergs. Have a VM4 but quite fancy a passive J or even a passive P. Both are nice looking basses but i reckon you might get more tone choices from the top one. Dave

It makes you a traitor to the 12 stringer ๐ 50 basses is a lot. Dave -
I started using the Senner ones on the bike that also have a metal tube container for your keyring. Personally i just put the container in my pocket. Dave

maybe its a Wet Wet Wet cover -
A gig's a gig fur awe that. ๐ Pretty sure we've all played them too. Dave
-
Definitely. Mine is only my right ear. Left ear is fine.. Dave

I've started using mine in the house when practising the songs. Not because i play loud at home but i'm hoping it gets me more used to them again. I've been playing in reasonably sensible bands lately where stage volume isnt overly loud but the new punk band i've been told are a bit louder. I'll definitely be using them from now on. On subject of my tinnitus i've noticed the changes in weather have affected it and its a bit more noticeable at moment. Same when i'm stressed or i have a migraine the tinnitus gets worse for a week or so then dies off again. Its always there but usually not too noticeable. Dave

Sound was good because a bass player was in charge. Cannae beat the qualities of a bass player. Dave

AGAIN ..... "only in Oban" ... ๐๐๐ Must have been a tourist. ๐ Have to wonder at the kind of venues you're playing up there in Oban. @ubit Dave
